Monday Weather Discussion!Added:
Hi everybody. Oh yeah, it's a Monday Monday morning and a big good morning to everyone out there in digital webcast streaming land. Um it is a Monday coming off a a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday. So this uh you know the title of the of the uh webcast today is you know a pattern change is looming but sometimes the actual changing of the pattern can be unsettled and that's what we're kind of looking at this week. When things are in flux usually something gives and that's the case this time around. So, good morning on this Monday, the 11th day of May. And uh we do have some weather to chat about for sure. As always, we'll get into the uh comments section and answer some questions and and uh work together here as we come to you live from the Storm Tracker weather lab here at NBC Connecticut. And we try to do this on a very regular basis. Sometimes it's daily, especially when the weather warrants. And with the weather that I see, I'm I'm going to try to get up here as many Mondays as I can. Uh because we can kind of plan, we can formulate our thoughts for the week based on what we're seeing on a Monday morning. And that's what we'll do today. So, good morning to everybody. And uh good a lot of folks jumping on a Monday. So, as always, well, first before we go to the rundown, let us take one moment to say uh a belated uh but still very important happy Mother's Day. I'm not on on Sundays and to be quite honest with you, I was sleeping and relaxing this weekend trying to recover from our vacation.
Need a vacation from a vacation. Um, but are there I don't know. Are there any people more important in the world than moms? It's a good question. They do it all. I mean, dads do a fair amount, too.
But moms are the heroes that with or without capes, they are vital. I know they are in my life. my mom, uh, my wife, my extended family. Uh, you really see how the moms and especially when you have daughters, the mother daughter relationship is amazing. So, I just want to take a moment and and just salute all the moms and all that they do all of the time. They don't get many days off. I hope yesterday they were able to kick back. Moms were able to kick back and relax a little bit. My wife and I went out and grabbed a nice dinner. My wife spent time with her mom. Well, I hung with the dogs and chilled out. Um, so that was nice. And um, and then when my wife got back, we went out to a nice dinner and I can I can still taste it.
It was pasta and I had a uh a shrimp frai and it was amazing. Now the rundown.
What are we looking at? Changeable skies today. Some dealing with clouds, others dealing with sun, some people are right in between. It all matters where you live. And we'll look at high resolution satellite imagery coming up in just a minute. Unsettled wet weather develops for Wednesday and Thursday.
Thursday probably wetter than Wednesday, but neither are very desirable.
Brighter and warm weather by the weekend and a warming trend next week. And what I'm happy to report is what I don't see is heat.
It's too early this time of May. Can we just get some good warmth without heat? Seems like we just go back and forth, right? 90 50 90 50. Uh it' be nice just to get some seasonable stuff in here. And the average high is right around 70. So let's see if we can find some of that.
So a warming trend by the weekend. And today being a Monday, let's have a ask Bob almost anything segment and we'll do that after we go through the weather forecast. U for those of you that are new to this um this is a really fun interactive way of talking about the weather. Um, at the same time, we can talk about and just about anything else. Kind of like a open-ended podcast with pictures and graphics. Um, that's why I say ask Bob almost anything. Um, been doing this for a very long time, but I took a substantial break. I was on Facebook Live back in 2014 and 15. You can go in the archives and find them. And one of the things that was a pretty common theme was just get to the weather. And I again I make up the voice because I'm allowed to. It's my podcast. Um and we do we get right to the weather and then we bounce around all over the place. So if you're here for the weather forecast, stay tuned. If you're here for other stuff, stay tuned a little bit longer. Let's take a look at the satellite imagery.
This is always interesting. And you've got this beautiful break in the clouds that has developed across the state. And you know, initially I'd look at this and say, "All right, we're going to have a gorgeous day today." Yeah, look at this big hole in the clouds. Oh, but wait, what's this?
There's another surge of clouds. Not rainfall, I might add, but another surge of clouds that will be coming over the state. Now, some of these are a little bit wispier and maybe thinner in nature, but I think we go from bright sun back to gray for a while, but again, these aren't storm clouds. If you have a big project that you're kicking off for the week, you better get it done today and tomorrow because outdoor projects will be wet as we go deeper into the weather forecast. So, we always like to start you off with this highresolution satellite imagery. Um, and then we look at some live pictures to back it up.
Hey, Waterberry, you're showing off blue skies, sunshine, but look to the south.
Okay, so if we go back to this, I like to educate.
So, if you the Waterberry camera is right about there, looking south, there's clouds. Looking north, blue skies and sunshine. So, when we look at the uh imagery, there's the the cloud shield, the line between clouds and blue skies and sunshine. And you can see how they're not very thick or stormy or ominous looking clouds. They're just clouds. And those clouds are much more noticeable. It's a bright overcast, but it is cloudy. And this is our mystic camera. You can tell by the beautiful vessels that are now becoming more numerous in the water as boats are being put back in the water. Some boats were out there all um all winter, which I just find to be amaz uh interesting. And this boat right here caught my eyes. Not that one.
Uh this one.
That is a beautiful vessel. Look at that thing. And I'm only looking, we're only looking at the bow. That looks really nice to me. I don't know. May have to venture down to Red 36. That's the restaurant our camera is on. and check that one out. That looks like a beautiful boat. All boats are beautiful.
And there's a bunch of jokes that go along with that, too. Um, temperatures in the 50s. Hey, Terry, a new a new viewer checking in. I love that. Terry from Thomas, uh, saying good morning and thanks for the sunny morning. David has also commented in the comment section, but David comments every single day, every minute we're on. So, I I love it.
I love the interaction. Uh Terry Thomas was the town in which we uh we got our first purebred beagle. I think it was right there on 222. There was a person who um who was a breeder of of beautiful beagles. This little mini beagle was our first dog as a family. And Woodstock his name was was a great dog. I digress.
Temperatures are in the 50s this morning. 54. And Sharon, where we got our last dog, and that's Guinness, our Bernie's mountain dog. He's a born and raised born in Sharon raised by me, by us. 57 right now in Danielson. That's kind of nice. 56 in Rockville. It's beautiful out. Light breeze, sunshine.
51 in Union. Come on, temp. Get moving.
And we're in the middle 50s to 60 with the clouds. Again, a a bright overcast, but sort of cloudy right now along our beautiful Connecticut shoreline. 60 in Madison, 55 in Bethany, 55 in Trumble, and 56 in Westport this morning. So, we're off to a decent start.
High temperatures, and this was sunshine that again, I think gives back way to gives back gives way to clouds again as we go through the midday and the afternoon. So, it's beautiful now. It's probably less beautiful later, but still pleasant.
Cooler than it should be, but I don't think anybody's complained about 63 or 62. And I could use some warmth in my life, like, you know, some low 70s. So, let's see how things transpire. Future radar. See what I mean? Whoa, I forgot the pauses. My bad. I got to go I'll go through this step by step. Boy, that gives you an idea of all the changes we have, though. I love the look. I mean, I don't always agree with future radar.
You know, we don't have to agree with it, but when I let it just roll, you get an idea of the fluidity of the atmosphere and how things come and go and how things move. And you can see that. Well, we'll go through I'll slow it down in a minute. See how you back it up and there's your increasing clouds mixed with the sun as we go through the afternoon. Showers are close, but they're not close enough.
And uh there's your clearing for tonight. So again, we cloud over and then we clear out.
Tomorrow, we'll stop at midday. Tomorrow is gorgeous. I just wish the atmosphere was a little bit warmer. High of 60 to 65, which is super duper pleasant, but I I wouldn't mind 70 to 75. But again, we can't complain. Allergy sufferers can. Tree pollen is still running high to extreme. So keep that in mind. So it's fair all day Tuesday.
Tuesday is a beautiful day. And then Wednesday morning, what's that? That is some light rain coming in.
Oh, Neil.
Oh, okay. Thought you were talking about something else.
Um I think it was a thousand burners that were rescued. at Eagles. Get your dogs straight meal. A thousand Bernie mountain dogs were rescued from, again, it's on social media, so I don't believe all of it, but they were saying they were rescued from a place in the country of England.
All right, but let's stick to weather.
Okay.
Okay, at least try to. So, Wednesday morning, some showers are possible. Look at they're kind of light and scattered, but they fill in pretty decently. Yeah, that's not very nice. Again, this is Wednesday, so a lot of things could change, but I don't think they will.
This is the beginning of a storm system that evolves into a weather pattern change that we'll get to in a minute.
But notice it doesn't rain all day.
Morning showers along a warm front and then rain develops Wednesday night into Thursday.
And that may continue for a big chunk of Thursday and uh that's why I think Thursday's really wet. Okay, so let's take a look at that part of it.
First tonight, today is fair temperature. Well, fair, but the clouds are become more widespread again this afternoon. Tonight, look at that. 30s and 40s under clear skies. The air mass is still quite chilly. Then tomorrow with bright abundant sunshine, you know, that's pretty strong sun. We're a little bit over a month from the solstice and we're stuck in the low to middle 60s.
Should be warmer. We'll get there. Yard goats are in town and they're on a four-ame winning streak. And the goats will deal with some rain. I think Wednesday's game is a go. Wednesday's game is a go. Thursday's a question mark. Friday's a go. So the beginning of the home stand, you know, this is May. I think there would be one day of issues.
Tim, Mike, if you're watching down from Duncan Park, uh check in, say hello, and um and uh you'll have to probably do a double header Friday or Saturday. Probably Saturday. Okay, so here's the weather pattern. Yeah, there we go.
I had these pretty colors all set up for you. And we're under the we're going to be under the influence of this. And until all of this lifts out, this setup is kind of wintry. It's kind of how the weather panel was set up most of the winter. But this upper level low can settle in here. And what can happen when this happens is that you can get surface reflections, surface lows that can track out here, secondary areas of low pressure on the leeward side of the low pressure system.
So the the east side of it can be really quite unsettled and quite crummy to be honest with you. And that's what I see for Thursday.
So I'm not saying it's be a deluge, but it could it could end up being pretty wet like a wash out. Then as this whole thing lifts out, our weather will improve. So that's what we can look forward to. And this shows up nicely with the this is a look at the European forecast model. So, Wednesday, the rain develops. Doesn't rain all day, but it will rain in the morning and again in the afternoon into Thursday morning.
Watch this. Here comes a sec first and probably only secondary development of low pressure. Look what it does. Really enhances the rain around the low. And if this thing sets up the way it could, an onshore flow could mean colder temperatures. and we're representing in the 10day because of a chilly northeast breeze. Kind of a noraster type uh rainstorm is possible. I'm not saying it's definite, but that would be for Wednesday or Thursday. Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, Thursday, and then that kicks out. If it doesn't rush out of here, we could deal with some showers on Friday. But the trend on Friday is our friend. And I think we clear it out on Friday as the day wears on. and Saturday and Sunday look really, really nice. So, that's some good news. The weekend does look good. How much rain? Well, let's fill the rain gauges. First, you got to empty them and we could get one to two inches of rain.
This is probably on the high end of things because look at New Haven. The GF or the the European model spits out two to three inches in orange. Now, that would be quite a bit of rain. that could lead to some poor drainage flooding on on Thursday. But I think again this is worst case scenario WCS worstcase scenario. Um but it's not out of the realm of possibility. So I present it to you. Just know that I think we'll end up with less rain than that. But you know what it is what it is. 8 to 14 day forecast is looking better and better with a sign of warmth across the country instead of that real persistent upper level low. So the what the jetream does, it changes from from ridge to trough to a much more seasonable and I would call it zonal flow where the jetream is kind of across Canada like that. And that allows us all to enjoy some relative warmth. You know, I hope I don't want heat, but relative warmth would be nice, wouldn't it? And um instead of the air coming from Hudson Bay, it would come from the Pacific Ocean. So that is what I think we're looking at. And this is reflected in the high temperatures stepping up each day, Wednesday, Thursday, and into next week and the weekend and next week. So there's your hurdle that we have to clear with showers on Wednesday and some rain on Thursday. Maybe more than just some rain. Maybe rain and embedded thunder and and some downpours of rain.
So, I can still taste the garlic from the fraiablo.
Uh, Friday, some partial clearing and I think the weekend is looking good.
Friday is a question mark to be quite honest with you. I don't know how fast the storm is going to depart, but I do like the weekend and I like the beginning of next week. 70s and some low 80s. So, that's nice. Shoreline conditions. I get a lot of people saying, "You don't leave the shoreline up long enough." Well, on TV, we're always being rushed. There's always uh another new story that has to run and I pledge to be better, but underproducing my weather segment so there's more time at the end for the shoreline forecast.
Um because it is the nature of the beast. It's it's a newscast. It's not just a weather cast. See, this is a weather cast so I can leave it up there forever. In fact, I'm going to leave it up there for now because I can. Let's go into some comments because the comments section has been very busy and I hope it's mostly about weather, but it seems like it's mostly about dogs, which is fine. We love our dogs. Dave says, "Morning, Bob."
And then there's another comment that I can't see. That's weird.
Thanks for the sunny morning.
Morning, Bob. And then there's a comment about the rest of your golf career, but I can't show it on here. Maybe you could. Oh, what course would you play for the rest of your golf career only?
Oh, could you retype that, David, and put it in the comments because it doesn't show up and that's weird. Terry says, "Good morning. Thanks for a sunny morning in Thomas." You're welcome.
Enjoy it while you have it because it won't last all day. Kathy says, "Hello."
That's another new name popping up. We'd love to see that happen. Uh, happy Monday. Right back at you, Kathy. And if you're a mom, happy belated Mother's Day. Neil says, "Come sit by the river at our house. The next week Oh, next week is the boat show with all the floating cocktail vessels headed our way." Yeah, I um I'm aware of that boat show down there in Essex, right? It's right in the Essex area. We try to try to give them some coverage in May with the drone. We'll see if we can work that out.
Sue Ellen, good morning to you.
Good morning. Hello, Eric. How goes it?
Happy Monday to you, sir. Uh Neil, did you ever see the over a thousand beagles that were rescued? It turns out, I guess, from a research facility in some people are saying uh it was Debbie's gonna pipe in here in a sec second and say that was Wisconsin.
Okay. I just in my feed um and again I don't know if there's any validity to it at all but it was it was many burners um any let's just face it any testing on animals is a a hot a topic for some conversation I mean come on what are we doing well we but how else do we research stuff I don't know I don't know what the answer is yeah Neil I have heard of that and um it's sad How about a 14-day forecast? Says Suellen going to Maine next week. Okay, Maine and May.
Suelen, I think uh I think we know the answer to that. Uh anything can happen in May. It did snow in Maine and it snowed last week in Maine. So 14 days out going to Maine next week. Well, let's just cross our fingers for Sue Allen, I think. And when you go in May, you know, you can get just about anything. It's such a beautiful state though. So, have a great trip. Good morning. Looking forward to a the day where I can wear warm weather clothing to many very tall grass.
Looking forward to a day I can wear warm weather clothing to many very tall grass.
Looking forward to the day I can wear warm weather clothing while mowing my very tall grass. I was wondering if there was something missing. Thank you, Debbie. Um, I snuck in a a quick mow on th No, wasn't Thursday.
It was Tuesday after a charity golf fight. I I I my lawn this time of year grows ridicul like everybody else's.
Ridiculously fast. I do have some patches though. I do have I have two dogs and their urine tends to really hurt grass. So, I'm not going to go out there and spray behind a 160 pound dog.
Spray water to I know it's a problem I have though. Yeah, I'm uh I may mow the lawn today.
There was a rescue of beagles from Wisconsin. Yeah. Okay. Thank you, Debbie, for clearing that up. And maybe some of you have seen social media where a couple celebrities names have been dropped in a Bernese mountain dog breeding scandal. And I think it was in England. I don't believe it though. I don't know what I believe online. But let me just tell you this. You can believe me on this feed. This is 100% human generated. No artificial intelligence. Um just my relative intelligence. Of course. Dave checks in and says, "I don't think there's been one morning I haven't had to put my space heater on in the old home office."
Well, that's an installation problem, Dave. There was a couple days where we had highs in the 90 or near 90. Remember those mornings when it was in the 60s.
So there has been a couple of mornings where you haven't had to use a space heater. So wah wah wah. Dave, come on.
I'm just messing with you. You know that. Maybe just wear a cap on your bald head and you wouldn't lose so much heat through your head. You got it, Sue. Have a great trip to Maine. When should the rain on Friday end? I don't know. I don't know yet, Debbie. I think it'll be over with by the time you go to see David Burn that night coming up Friday night at the Bridgeport Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, which I have yet to go to a show and it's killing me.
I want to go to a show there so bad.
There's been some great artists. I just it's it's it's over an hour from home.
That's a lot. That's a big effort.
That's a big effort. Uh I will say one concert in my life, one concert in 19 92 91 or 92 I came to New Haven from New Hampshire. I'd ne I'd only been in New Hampshire once or Connecticut once before in my life and I went to a show of David Burns at it was in New Haven may have been the state it I don't think it was the Schubert may have been the state theater early 90s no talking heads a lot of rhythmic drumming see where I'm going with this I worked mornings I had driven from New Hampshire to go to a show with two friends, one who worked at WT&H and one who didn't. And the rhythmic drumming and the darkness and I fell sound asleep at a David Burn concert.
Yeah, I did.
Just being honest.
Hi Bob. Hello Sheila.
Connecticut. Never a dull moment because every other state dumps their bad weather over our border. Oh, Thomas, I don't know if that's true. I I see you got something going there with a Ferrari's uh logo. I believe the the horse, right? Isn't that the Ferrari? Uh Thomas, I don't think everybody dumps their bad weather. Quite to the contrary, the bad weather that can impact New York and Massachusetts and Vermont and even Pennsylvania usually dries up in certain weather patterns before it gets to Connecticut. We have a fast spring, hot summer, and a beautiful fall. So, I am one who sticks with the positivity when it comes to our weather.
It could be and is a lot worse around us.
The day we were at 90, Boston was at 55.
What would you rather have?
Great weekend weather news for news. 4 day Lake Zor fishing trip starts on Saturday. Lake Zor on the Husatonic River. The Hoose. David, I wish you luck. What are you fishing for?
I'm just going to guess trout. That's my guess.
Debbie says now okay this flowing comment se comment section sometimes I think you have to be a little bit more you know clear Greg says glad it's still cool I always feel like there's there is this exce expectation that everyone wants very warm weather I'm fine with this Greg so am I don't mind 70 I'd rather have 70 than 60 but no I'm not complaining at Well, and uh there's quite a few people actually during the heat of April that we got. It was brief. There were a lot of people who tend to unload their mood on the weather team. Um most people, I'll say most, not all, enjoy that first warmth. We shake off the, you know, the cabin fever of a long chilly winter.
But some don't. And they make it perfectly clear to us. We get lots of fun emails. Hi, Rebecca.
Yeah, Dave, you are delicate. You are a delicate little flower of creativity, aren't you, sir? And uh we got to meet for coffee. Yeah, we're meeting for coffee, Dave. Let's make a date. Uh Rebecca says, "Hi, Bob." I say, Rebecca, hi. Right back to you. Pretty flower.
Pretty flower for sure. Catfish and carp. Wow. Okay. Lake Zor holds a record for Connecticut carp. I learn something new every minute. Every minute I'm on this.
I feel like I'm learning something new.
Sharon says, "Cooler weather has made my spring flowers last longer." Yep. I have to go chop down the the the daffodils or, you know, got to cut those back now.
Gee, Rebecca, that's awfully kind of you to say. I enjoy you very much, too, Rebecca.
I've never met you.
You know, love is love, though. Good morning, Tatiana. Always fun to hear from Tatiana, and this is the first time she's ever commented where it only came over once. It usually comes through twice, which is oh so odd. David asked an interesting question. I'll put the shoreline 10day up for those of you that live in land. And uh if there there was a golf course I could play the rest of my life. One golf course.
H I think that's what he was asking. Let me go back up to the top.
The rest of your golf career, which one would it be? Well, David, it's really strange that it won't show up.
I don't know. I don't know. That's really weird. And I'm going to give you a really strange answer. Oh, Tatiana, your comment came through came through twice. Anyways, so David asks a question, and this is an Ask Bob anything Monday. Um, I'm going to give you a really strange answer, and it's going to be totally unexpected. I mean, as a golfer, many people might say Augusta National.
Why? Hard to break a hundred.
TPC at River Highlands.
Lot of fun.
Newport Country Club. Historic in Newport, Rhode Island. Not beautiful.
18 holes. So, I'm going to give you an answer that you won't expect.
And if you leave Connecticut, and many Connecticut golfers do this. I see the license plates in the parking lot. You go north on Interstate 91 and you get off at the Keen, New Hampshire exit.
Some of my friends have kids who have gone to Keen State University, KSU, the Owls, I think they are. And you go into downtown Keen, you take a left and you go north up into the village of Suri.
And on the Keen and Suri border, there's a golf facility called Bretwood. No n B re T W O D.
They're on Facebook.
And those 36 holes are my favorite 36 holes anywhere.
I mean, I play in the desert.
I beautiful golf courses, desert southwest. This past October, I played in the Lake Tahoe region. The golf courses were gorgeous.
Gorgeous.
But if I had nice weather, like let's talk Xanadoo here and you said you have to play one golf course rest of your life. I would pick Brettwood Golf Club and in Keen, New Hampshire. I know it's a weird answer, but that's my answer. Have a good week and get in Canton or pop over in Simsbury should be the place. Okay, Dave, I love coffee and I would meet you there late morning, even on a rainy Thursday. Hint, hint. But I don't know if you, you know, I don't know if the the boss will let you take the Porsche out in the rain, will she? I don't know. Questions. We all have questions. Oh, let's see here.
Lori, good morning, Lori. I was at Hamacet yesterday and there were jellyfish and the water was cold. You know, I don't know enough about jellyfish. Maybe I should research them, but I guess they obviously they don't have big issues with cold water. Um, we'll start plotting the water temperature on the maps. It's got to still be in the 50s. I mean, we it's got to be maybe upper 40s. We always say stay out of it. Hypothermia can happen.
Um, but I'm guessing I'm guessing jellyfish. Um, and Mike, I'll get to your question in a minute. I'm guessing jellyfish can obviously survive because you saw them.
They weren't dead and floating. Uh I got to believe they just move slower though.
Um yeah, yesterday was a nice day to be in Hammond acid. I don't think Saturday ended up being very nice. So that that that's no fun. Mike says, "Hey, Mike MD, hey Bob, are you expecting any heavy rains or mostly frequent consistent lighter showers for those of you that can't see the comment on the bottom of the screen between Wednesday and Friday?" H, this smells of someone planting grass.
Am I right, Mike? Am I reading your mind?
I think there's a possibility of heavier rain on Thursday. And Mike, if you missed the body of the weather forecast, I'll put this map up for you. This is one depiction of how much rain may fall Wednesday and Thursday. I think Wednesday it's light, low impact. By Thursday, though, I think there could be pockets of heavier rain, even somewhat torrential rain if everything works against us.
So, let's just say there is the chance of some heavier rains on Thursday. Hanks here.
Hanks here. It's amazing. A lawnmower, four wheels, two blades. Well, probably four blades.
A Briggs and Stratton engine and it it can type. When's the last time you your lawnmower typed you a message? Hanks can. Hanks does. Hank's lawn mower must be the best lawn mower. No, Hank, I gotta be honest with you. I may DM you.
The deck is crooked. The engine purr. It needs an oil change, a filter change, oil change, oil filter, air filter. Um, the deck needs to be balanced and the steering gear needs to be changed.
Now, throw me a estimate on that. And I I think the the back tires seem see seem like there's a little bit of stagger in them because I've changed out the lug nuts because the lug nuts would fall out because of too much vibration, but it's the steering gear that bums me out because I thought I fixed it a couple years ago and it's right back to click click click click. So Hank knows what I'm talking about. So Hank, let's go offline in direct messaging on Facebook and we'll figure something out. But um it's to the point where I got a guy that will come and mow it.
It's not that expensive. I might just hang up the mower.
Thinking about it, but I won't. Sometimes my only peace and quiet is is mowing the lawn. When the kids were around, that was the case. I would put the headphones on, listen to music, mow the lawn, and get some peace and quiet. But now my kids, you know, we're empty nesters.
Uh, my daughter has returned from her abroad study abroad in Madrid, Spain. I can't wait to quiz her on what she learned about ancient Spanish history or restaurants or bars.
Or restaurants or bars. I'm sure the mower is going. By the way, it runs. It ran great first. I mean, it turned over first try. Usually the battery dies, but this battery is strong. Didn't have to jump it or anything. Uh, runs great, but I I know that I know maintenance is needed, but it's old. My mower, I got to ask my father-in-law when he bought it.
I should be able to make a an educated guess.
I bet you he bought that mower.
And since Hank's asking, it's a Craftsman LT1200.
And it does have a Briggs and Stratton engine in it. I bet you I bet you he bought it in 1996.
He live my in-laws lived in Kansas City.
It could have been 95. So, that puts it at 30 to 31 years old, and it still runs and still cuts. The blades probably need to be sharpened, but everything has to be leveled. I can tell that it's just an unlevel cut, and I don't like that. All right, so enough of that. Uh Sharon says, "I like to mow the lawn. Not keen on weed whackling." Um, yeah, I got to do some weed whacking.
They're starting to grow. I got pulls.
Anybody else get this on their feed? You know how you death scroll through reels and whatever? There's some app that you can point at the weed.
I think it's called picture this. I could be wrong. And it tells you what you're looking at because I have beautiful grass. But I also have this like vine that's in the grass.
I can see it and I pull it and I get a little vine and a little it's not really flowering but sort of a flowering dull reddish thing. It's it's not poison ivy or anything like that, but it's some invasive species that has taken over. It kind of originated in my pack of sandandra, which I'm getting rid of this year.
And parts of my lawn, it's like a golf course and other parts where the dogs go to the bathroom, it looks, you know, crappy. No pun intended. Um, Rebecca says, "Jellyfish sting." Yes, they do. And then Hank says, "It's a good old rider." Yes, it is. Uh, first thing I should have checked on my riding mower for an even cut tire pressure all around. Yeah, that could be something.
But I think my deck has got some rust. I mean, it's old. It's 30 years old. I I I look at life.
Do I buy a new mower knowing that life is gonna go to the next chapter in the next five years where I hope to be in a town home where somebody else ms it for me and weed wax and plants flowers for me and I sit back and enjoy some sort of retirement in the next five years. I'll be 61 in July. So, I don't know. Do you do you invest in a lawn mower or do you just pay somebody?
What would you pay for weekly mowing? I got about 810 It's 7/10 of an acre.
So that's why I have a rider mower. I don't know. Creeping Charlie. I'll check that out. Tanner, thank you. It's It's in my lawn. It hasn't spread remarkably, but it's a very slow spread. I'll check it out. But has anybody seen that app?
Do you know what I'm talking about?
Where it tells you what to do? Like some people just think, oh, put down weed killer. Others put down, you know, salt or baking soda or, you know, vinegar, uh, to kill weeds because if you just pull weeds, a lot of times they just come right back. So, I wonder I I think it's time for a long care segment. Okay.
Um, because those are real questions and we need answers. All right. So, um, but thank you, Derek. That's a good thought.
Um, Tanner, I love the advice. Okay. It is a good old writer. I just don't know if it has much left in it.
But I'm happy because you know what?
Besides maintenance, it was free. Free.
Fr.
Free.
Not much in life is free.
Um, one, we're going to go back and look at what the European forecast model is printing out and then we'll uh we'll stay so long. But if you any questions, go in the comments section. So on Wednesday, a warm front will bring a chance of showers in the morning. Then a cold front brings a rising chance of rain Friday even or Wednesday evening into Wednesday night.
Then if this low forms and I think it can, that's why I drew it there and it comes north.
This is not favorable for salvaging Thursday.
There could be quite a bit of rain on could I'm not sure when it leaves says if you look at this depiction it's still raining Friday late evening that would mess up David Burn talking heads would be wet but let's think it's going to let's just say I think it's going to kick out faster than that it's Monday give me some grace I'm talking about Friday afternoon people expect this to be exact act. It never is. It's it's it gives us an general idea of the theme, but it's never going to tell you the whole story.
Then we clear it out hopefully for the weekend. So, that's a look at what the European model is spitting out.
Sharon, you're with me. Have you tried taking a picture with your iPhone and scrolling it up? It should tell you what it is. So, the phone does it itself. It doesn't have to be some app that I have to make inapp purchases. I will try that.
Um, and I think it would it would be um Oh, I'm joining late. Hey, Matt, good morning. It's okay to join late. You can also watch the whole thing and ignore the live part of it. I think I joined late. I'm curious about this longer warming trend heading to our area. Yeah, Matt, it's going to take its time getting here, but I think I think, you know, 70s are likely over the weekend.
Maybe some low 80s early next week. Um, it's hard to to say exactly how warm. I don't think it's a heat wave. I think it's a it's a zonal weather pattern and Pacific air mass. I think we do really well. I think it's really good weather for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Um, so that's good news.
Maybe we get into more of a solid spring pattern instead of these ups and downs and chances for rain. Sharon, thank you.
That's pertinent information. She says, "Yes, the magical iPhone will tell you.
I'm going to do it. And I'm going to do it today because I'm I have some evasive species in my yard. I had to take out a a perennial garden that was the pride and joy of the previous owners, but we've lived in the house now for 28 years. So, over 28 years, that perennial garden became a weed garden. Not that type of weed, Dave. I know that's what you're thinking. Uh, we had a dog fence put in long time ago for Woodstock who was mentioned earlier in this in this webcast and I think there was an invasive species on the wheel of the of the thing that dug the fence electric fence and it it just overtook the entire garden because you don't mow the garden.
The garden grows and this invasive species eventually took over. It looked it took 25 years. So, I took the the whole garden out and some of that grass that is evasive still shows up. So, I'm going to be fertilizing and cutting it back so it doesn't continue any spread.
It's going to be a challenge, but the grass part of the new lawn looks really, really good. It's getting that other stuff out. Isn't that fun? I mean, we just love our lawns, don't we? Yeah.
Something like that. As I mentioned, when family texts, I read them because when I'm Oh, yeah. Dogs are getting groomed today. We're very excited about that.
Grooming for the dogs. Both dogs are getting groomed. And the big dog, of course, is coming off the CCLACL surgery. He's doing great. No limp, really moving wonderfully. But we have to make sure that the groomers are careful because there's water and soapy, sudsy, slippery things. We certainly don't want the dog to get hurt again.
All right, so that's your Monday musings. We should call it mcubed.
Monday meteorological musings because that's what it is. And um we'll be back I I think tomorrow if not tomorrow definitely Wednesday. So you know just set me up in your notifications uh subscribe and like on the on the u the YouTube page and you'll get some sort of notification when I come on live. Also like and share it with friends because I do this on a again a very regular basis. Maybe not every day. I think if it was every day it would be pretty boring. Uh but you know what I mean. Matt says, "I like this cool, but also it's time to move forward toward consistent warmth." Yes, I was thinking enough of these ups and downs, but that's May. You know, it happens every May. It can happen into June, too, like you talked about before the weekend. Thanks. I'll listen to this episode afterwards. Thanks for checking in, Matt. Um, should I get a a scarifier? Ethan, what's a scarifier?
I think for moss, and again, someone who's smarter than me can correct me on this. Sorry, I'm picking my nails. I don't know why. Dry skin. If you have moss, I think the answer is lime. Lime and more lime.
White powdery lime. You put it in your spreader. You spread it and I think it tends to whatever moss lives on. Plus, you need some sun. Probably got to get rid of some trees because moss loves that the dank, dark, moist part of your yard. But if you have a lot of moss, I think you need lime. I think I think I think Hey, look at that. Hank says, "We're in concert. Use lime to get rid of moss." And I have moss in parts of my yard, too. But it's a part of the lawn that I really don't care about, so I don't want to spend a ton of money. It's it's it's behind my barn and you know, until next time. Ethan says, "Good."
David says, "See you next time. Have a good day." David, right back at you.
Good luck with the fishing this weekend.
Roger says, "Have a good day." Roger obviously a fan of Yukon. Kind of surprising. I don't think the baseball team made the NCAA tournament, but the softball team did. We do like to go off on sports tangents. So, congratulations to great seasons for the Yale men's lacrosse team. They lost a nailbiter to Syracuse up at the dome in Syracuse yesterday. The Yale women lost um and the Fairfield women's lacrosse team lost to Navy. Uh winners in division three include Wesley and men and women and Trinity men, I think. Or is it Trinity Women? Someone could correct me if they wanted, but yeah, I think it's Trinity men because well, bottom line is Trinity and Wesley and Ken meet down the road as they advance. My alma mater lost in an upset to John's Hopkins. Cornell lost 98, unable to defend their national championship from last year. So, I do love to go off on sports tangents when I can. Uh, Red Sox look like garbage. I didn't see what the Mets did. I know they were on the road. I think they're on the West Coast.
And were they Miami? I can't keep track.
And the Yankees probably just keep winning because that's what they do. In auto racing, they were at Watkins Glenn for NASCAR. And our Connecticut guys did okay, but not great. The winner was Shane Van Gindensburg, I believe it is.
Uh Joey Logano and Ryan Priest. Ryan got a top 15, but 16. So I didn't see what Joey did, but I know he spun out early in the race. U yeah. So that's that. So we move into May and deeper into May. We know there's graduations each and every weekend. This weekend was a huge graduation. So, drop questions in the chat. We'll try to answer your questions as far as party and ceremony planning as we go forward because there's always changeable conditions. Sharon says, "Thanks for the updates. Enjoy the rest of your day." I will enjoy the rest of my day. I'm looking forward to it. I rested this weekend so I feel fresh.
Which was not the case last Monday when I had the worst jet lag imaginable in the world, but I'm not complaining. All right, everyone. Have an awesome day.
All right, and we will see you back here again either tomorrow or Wednesday right around 9:15 in the morning. Peace.
