Marine layer fog forms when cool, moist air over a large body of water (like a lake) creates fog that blows inland on light northerly winds, typically remaining along shorelines and dissipating during the day; this phenomenon explains why Cleveland experiences foggy mornings that clear as the sun warms the air, with temperatures dropping to the 50s overnight and remaining in the 60s due to the lake breeze effect.

Cleveland area weather forecast: Nice evening, staying mainly dryAdded:
Danny and I were talking during the break about just how >> ugly the weather was this morning. I wasn't I wasn't prepared for that for some reason. Sorry. I don't know if I didn't watch enough.
>> Blame the weather again.
>> No, no, it was fine. It was very weird.
It was very foggy.
>> Super foggy. Yeah. Chilly, foggy. Once the fog burned off, the sun came out, things got better. But that we were already at work.
>> Yes, we were. I looked down. I said, "Oh, the sun is out." But what what is this?
>> Well, again, we're getting a little marine layer. If you've ever been to San Francisco, they have it almost every day in the summer. You get the cool air that the cool moist air over the lake forms some fog and then that blows inland on a light northerly wind. And you're seeing that coming on shore right now. It remains onshore and some of our buildings are still shrouded in some low cloudiness and fog. And you can see it there. It's primarily right along the shoreline right now in greater Cleveland. Now, overnight tonight, it may expand inland for a few miles, 5 10 miles inland. Most of us aren't going to have to deal with that dense fog that we dealt with this morning, but there still could be a little patchy fog around in spots. 72 at 6:00 p.m., 71 at 7, 60s there, 8 and 900 p.m. It's going to be a cool overnight. If you're staying out late, make sure you grab the sweaters.
Even coming downtown for the Guardians and the Cabs, you're going to experience 60s primarily, okay? because of that lake breeze. See, right now downtown at 62. It's there's a chill in the air. 86% humidity, a due point of 58. So, here's where we are now. Dry and mild.
Lakeshore fog overnight tonight. Could go inland a few miles. And overall, it's a dry weather week. In fact, for the next 10 days, things look pretty dry.
Wednesday, we may see a few isolated thunder showers. But we've got a frontal boundary that's stalled out right here, and it's suppressing. It's suppressing the showers and thunderstorms to the south. Now, a few of them will try and sneak our way for Wednesday, but a lot of us are going to stay dry. So, here we are through the overnight. Watch those temps falling down. You see these little green blobs right here. That is how our computer tells us we may have some fog.
And again, that's right along the shoreline. Fog and those sprinkly little drizzly drops on the windshield. And notice they're out over the lake and along the shoreline at 11:00 p.m. And again through the overnight, these little foggy droplets here. But then they dissipate and we go through the day tomorrow. And look at those temps. Upper 70s, a little cooler lakeside. And let's even take you further than that. Here's uh 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Notice some showers and a little bit of thunder sneaking farther north. And then we may see an isolated shower around greater Cleveland afternoon, but not a lot of rain. So, Lakeshore fog tonight.
There'll be scattered clouds around here and there. 55 degrees for the overnight low. Light and variable winds. Little chill in the air. Tuesday for the Boers.
Waves going a foot or less. Lake quarter off Cleveland. 58 with light and variable winds. Not a bad day for boating. 78 your national design. Hourby hour for tomorrow. You got a cloud sun mix coming in. Watch for that little bit of fog along the shoreline during the morning hours. Maybe the Shoreway coming into downtown. Maybe that route 2 corridor as well. Warm and dry. Warm and dry. Light and variable winds. What a day to get outside. A week ahead, rainfall outlook though. Look, Wednesday, isolated showers. Maybe a rumble of thunder. Then Thursday, dry.
Friday, dry. Saturday and Sunday, thumbs up. Things are looking dry. Union Home Mortgage 10day. Another way to show you.
Look at that. Just a raindrop here on Wednesday. That's it. 79. We'll get a little backdoor cold front coming in as we head through the uh later part of the week into the weekend. So, temps are going to cool down a little bit, but we're still dry and we still will see quite a bit of sunshine. These temps aren't bad for late May, getting ready to start June. Back to you.
>> Yeah, but that's one of the best weekend outlooks we've seen in quite some time.
>> Yeah, I don't see any rain or thunderstorms or flooding or plagues of locust anywhere near there.
>> Thank goodness for that, Mo Johnson.
>> No locust.
