Mark Carney just voted against Private PropertyAdded:
Outrageous.
You won't believe what Mark Carney just did. He just ordered his entire Liberal Party to vote against a Conservative motion protecting your private property rights. A few months ago, a BC court ruled that homeowners in British Columbia might not own their own home.
This is part of the Cowichan court case.
Now, in that case, government lawyers were ordered not to argue to defend your private property rights. That's right.
Now, what does this mean in practical terms? Well, I was just in British Columbia hearing from people who are worried they might not be able to renew their own mortgage. In fact, developers have had to cancel projects because they can't get financing. Banks aren't going to lend against property that you might not actually own. This will have far-reaching repercussions across the country. So, Conservatives came to Parliament with a simple solution.
Reverse that decision. Appeal the Cowichan case. And this time, calling on the government to stand up for private property rights. Instead, the Liberals just voted down our motion.
>> Private property rights are fundamental, and this government, indeed this house, will always protect them.
I declare the motion defeated.
Mark Carney has the gall to claim that he's going to stand up for private property rights, but today was the day when words [music] needed to be turned into action. Like everything else about Mark Carney, it's all an illusion. And it all could have been avoided if government lawyers weren't ordered to fight with one hand tied behind their back. He might pay lip service to protecting private property rights, but today was the day when his talk needed to be turned into action. And what did Mark Carney do? He sold you out.
I declare the motion defeated.
