Extended rainfall patterns occur when a stationary weather front remains overhead for multiple days, allowing convective energy to accumulate and produce several inches of rainfall over a week's period. These patterns typically result in widespread but non-severe weather, with rain chances increasing throughout the day and persisting into the following day, while temperatures remain cooler than normal due to the precipitation.

This is Mississippi Live Weather at 10.
I knew it would catch me. A pretty soggy day all things considered across the Magnolia State. Welcome in to Mississippi Live Weather at 10. I'm meteorologist Gabe Mayor and we are tracking rain chances. I know, shocker.
It's been the story the past 24 hours.
Will continue to be the story over the next 24, 48, 72. Well, along an extended stretch, that's for sure. More showers tonight. That's where we start. And the heavy rainfall will be possible, but luckily not severe with this extended pattern. Usually this time of year, we have enough of that energy to let these storms get going. But not the case right now due to just the sheer amount of rainfall that we do have. And baseball has its first champion here in the Magnolia State. Who came out on top?
Well, we'll have that 4A champion coming up here in just a moment and even get to hear from the leader of the team down there in Pearl. He had an exclusive interview with our Will Colemmyer. We'll get to hear from him coming up in just a moment as well. The first 12, you can see the rain chances sticking around, really going to be scattered in the grand scheme of things, but those rain chances increasing, getting more into our Thursday. And by Thursday afternoon, those widespread chances once again possible along with those rumbles of thunder. where we sit right now.
Honestly, the heating of the day starting to die down. So, the overall storm chances dying down, but rain chances sticking around. So, where you're getting that green showing up, that's those showers continue overnight.
But even that diminishing in its coverage and the more significant storms and uh rainfall going to be more towards the east into Alabama. As we look out west, we did have some strong storms out there in Texas. Still a few severe thunderstorm warnings in place at the 10 o'clock hour, but not the case for us here as a large part of our forecast.
Just remain soggy and we do see impacts with that. Had a few areas that were dealing with some flooding issues, but overall it has been exactly what we needed in some much needed rainfall here in North Mississippi. Our futurecast tonight takes us through those showers dissipating out like I mentioned and becoming more of a lighter variety. But as you see there by 2 am right along that frontal boundary not impossible to get a few rumbles of thunder moving back into the pattern and those will continue moving across Kaziesco Lewisville even up there closer to the Highway 82 corridor around uh the Webster County and uh Klay County getting more towards about 6:00 on our Thursday or at least Thursday morning I should say. Those low temperatures continue to be on the milder side. Let's go ahead and take it over to the wall to go over those in more detail and of course track out those Thursday rain chances. So, as we look ahead to those rain chances, you can see that it's going to start mild and luckily those rain chances keep us pretty cool throughout the day. We're 64 Tupelo, 65 Amry, 66 Starkville and Columbus, and we're even seeing 64 Hamilton, Alabama, 63 Oxford and Water Valley, and 66 towards Greenwood. Our school bus forecast or our school day forecast I should say. Not many more of those left. And we'll transition our school day forecast to a pool day forecast next week. excited about that and I know a lot of the kids are as we transition into those summer months and those summer plans. But for our school day, we're 66 by drop off, 77 lunch, and 81 towards that final bell. I told you rain chances are increasing. We're 30% by drop off, same thing by lunch, but 50% towards that final bell as storms do move back into the pattern. Our stationary front remains stationary right overhead, allowing for that convective energy to be there till we let these storms get up and going. And that will continue by 10, 11:00 as we mix in that daytime heating. And with this front being our forcing mechanism will allow some of these storms to uh lift, get some elevated storm tops and thus get some heavy rainfall as well.
That really increasing by 2 3:00 on our Thursday. You can see how those storm chances do continue to build into the northern half of the Magnolia State. But overall, we're remaining below severe limits despite some of these storms packing a punch with heavy rainfall, lightning, rumbles of thunder, and even some subsevere gusts as well. But like I mentioned, it keeps our temperatures cool by the afternoon. So the 90s we had earlier this week the thing of the past right we're 83 Bruce and Eupora 85 Columbus and Aliceville 84 Belona and Greenwood 81 Tuna Sanitobia even up there towards Holly Springs and Corinth let's carry this over towards our Thursday night and there's where that coverage will begin to increase and really watch but from 9 to 12 that light to moderate shower continue to work its way into the Mississippi Delta and well across parts of North Mississippi. So, midnight seeing that increase in coverage. Not expecting severe storms out of this, but a few storms do stand out, especially working closer to our pre-dawn hours of our Friday right there towards Greenville and Cleveland. Those deeper reds that are showing up, that does indicate heavy rainfall. But where we get heavy rainfall could also be some higher storm tops resulting in lightning, maybe some small hail development as well. And those subsever gusts as these thunderstorms do start to collapse later on. So as we see that more action down there towards Kazesco, Natala County, south of Chula and Holmes County and we'll continue throughout those morning hours as well. Before we track those out, let's look at our low temperatures Friday morning. We're 65 Water Valley, 66 Upupora and Grenada. 69 Belleona and Greenville up towards the north and eastward 65 Boonville, Aayuka, and Red Bay. So overall keeping those seasonable temperatures around. But watch from 6:00 to 9:00 how these storms move north into the north Mississippi area closer to parts of Chickasaw, Calhoun, and Yalabusha County. That's where we are going to continue to get those rumbles of thunder. Our meteorologist Caleb Better will be tracking these out getting early into your Friday morning to let you guys know where these are lining up and just how strong they that we're talking about.
Not expecting severe storms, but maybe some small hail in the the most peak impact with these with this setup. So, noon time sees those scattered chances stick around continuing into the afternoon and even a few of these by the afternoon. Where that stands out to me is because we mix in that daytime heating and you get those darker reds showing up means that this has a little bit more lift to it, maybe allowing it to be on the stronger side, but that's one cell. And honestly, with this with futurecast being what it is, it's not been very consistent. So, this cell probably not going to be there in that that next model run. But with that potential at least there, I would say we are going to be watching that towards those afternoon hours across North Mississippi. But again, that's one cell.
If it were to interact with the right amount of energy, maybe getting some of those um some of those hailstones and yes, some of those strong wind gusts as well. But heavy rainfall, lightning, those continue to be the two main concerns with this setup. And we are going to see those rainfall amounts reach several inches over this week's stretch. 79 Oxford and Holly Springs.
We're 81 Tupelo and Amry, 81 Lewisville and Kaziesco, and 80 towards Cleveland and Tuna. So, a pretty cool afternoon all things considered, but it's all due to the rainfall. the rainfall sticks around into our Memorial Day weekend as we saw at 9:00 Saturday, Sunday, Monday, seeing 30, 60, and 40% respectively. And then into next week, still seeing those chances stick around, but our best chances still remain over this 4-day stretch as that stationary front lingers overhead. So, that's what we need to make note of. And even into those Memorial Day plans, you need to make sure to have some plans to head indoors for any of those. I do think that there will be some moments of dry air, but how long those moments last with scattered chances and with the afternoon heating, I think it's going to be something that you don't really need to chance. I think let's go ahead and plan around that.
Have the umbrella on standby and you'll be good to go. Is the music on again?
Hang on.
Let me see. Hopefully that did get handled, but let me know in the chat. Is the music on again?
shouldn't be anyway. Okay. Well, coming up in the next 60 seconds, hopefully that is addressed. But if you have any questions, put those down in the chat.
But coming up in the next 60 seconds, we're going to do our special sports feature because we have more games heading into tomorrow. Who's playing?
How that's lining up? Is the music good?
>> Yeah, we're good. No music.
>> Perfect. Okay. For those that don't know, nine o'clock had a few few tunes mixed in, but yeah, getting resolved at 10. Matt, appreciate that watching us behind the scenes. So, all right. Well, coming up here in the next 60 seconds, we're going to get a sports feature. Get to hear from our first winner. And we do get to feature that here in the northern half of the Magnolia State. Who that is and get to hear from one of the champions. That coming up in the next 60 seconds.

Right now from the Roomto room weather center, here's meteorologist Gabe Mayor.
Well, taking a look at that high school game of the week forecast. We have, of course, a lot of games of the week being that it is championship week down in Pearl. Our first matchup takes place at 10:00 a.m. with Salillo playing at 76° for that first pitch. And of course, the rain chances trying to stick around.
Isolated for the first half of the day, but becoming more widespread by the afternoon. So folks at West Union traveling south, grab that rain gear.
East Webster, same thing for you for your game one matchup going to be at 400 p.m. And we can't exclude our 700 p.m.
pitch. But we can. Why? Because we have a 4A state champion here in the northern half of the Magnolia State. Who that champion is? Well, let's take a listen with our Will Colemire on the call.
Can Mccertie Can Mccertie reach a grounder to third? Eli McDaniels. HIS THROW IS RIGHT ON TARGET and celebrate Marville.
The Troopers have won their 10th state championship in program history.
program that knows how to get it done, knows how to get to the big stage, and comes up clutch when needed. It's just that baseball tradition that you find at some of these schools that do it over and over.
There's the banner.
>> What's next?
proud of them bringing home that first state title and they did so in a dominant fashion. As we look at those scores, of course, you can see that we were talking about a pretty dominant showing there from the uh from the Morville team. Game one, Morville taking that one 15-8. And then as we look at uh the game two matchup, Morville winning that one 4-2. And of course, a great end to that game and very proud of our team here in North Mississippi. and right here in Lee County as well. And we're excited for that championship celebration. We did make a post on Facebook. If you have any of those celebration photos, make sure to put that in the comments and we will make a post featuring them tomorrow morning.
So, if you have a player you want to shout out, a coach you want to shout out, or just shouting out the team, we'll make sure to do that heading into tomorrow morning. So, very proud of them. We did get a special video from uh from Coach Derek down there with the Morville Troopers. He gave his take on those final moments and winning that state title. our Will Kmire interviewing him and giving us the very latest. Let's take a listen.
>> All right, thanks. Yeah, we're here with Derek Thompson, the head coach of the victorious Marvel Troopers. First of all, congratulations.
Number 10, and you and I were just talking before we did this interview.
This is now six straight decades that Marvel has won a state championship.
>> Yes, we uh they started in 72, Coach Bman, and we won one in the 80s. uh 90s, 2000, got uh one in the 2010s, and now we got one in the 20s. So, that says a lot about the the program, you know, that's not just about us and this year's team. That just says something about the program. Uh probably the coolest thing, though, is that's a state championship in four different classifications.
>> Wow.
>> So, that that was pretty cool, you know.
>> Remarkable.
>> Well, how did you get it done? What was the difference? I mean, we pitched the daylights out of tonight. I knew whenever uh we could we was within one run and the top of the order was coming back up there in the six. Going to be third time to see. I felt real good about our chances. Uh they've been coming through all year, all series, and obviously they did it again tonight.
>> You talked about pitching. Yeah, absolutely. And and Carson Hicks, how about a complete game? Gave up just one earned run tonight, coach. What was working for him?
>> Uh he's just being Carson. I mean, he he's done that for two years now. You know, you look at his record and it's not great. Uh, three of the losses he got to teams is down here right now, uh, playing in higher classifications than us. So, um, we we throw him in the fire during the season. You know, we play a tough schedule year in year out and, you know, we we don't give him any cupcakes.
We let him go out there and throw against the best for these situations right here. And obviously, it it worked out tonight.
>> It certainly did. And how about Eli McDaniels? I mean, those brothers are something special. But him being the series MVP, >> I I was telling the guy with the paper a while ago, they kept saying, you know, ninth grader, ninth grade. Listen, it is it's a big deal what this kid has done as a ninth grader. Uh but to us, to me, it's just Wednesday. I mean, this kid's been doing it all year long. I mean, I think he broke the modern day uh hits record for us since uh you know, been keeping stats since I've been here uh tonight. And kids just he's just a dog, man. He he he lives for these big moments and uh you know, and it and the situation's not too big for him. Never.
It's never too big for him and he gets in there and he just gets it done every single time.
>> Well, that is just super special. I can't thank you enough for your time.
Congratulations. How sweet will this ride be back to Lee County?
>> It'd be better than it was last year.
>> There you go.
>> And I appreciate you coming and covering us.
>> Well, no problem. Well, I enjoyed calling it tonight and uh all the best going forward. Congratulations, coach.
>> Thank you, sir.
>> All right, let's send it back to the studio up in Tupelo.
>> Well, congratulations, Coach Derek Thompson. And appreciate that. Our Will Colemmyer interviewing coach Thompson and letting us know all the magic that made it happen. And your Morville troopers are your 4A state champions.
But we have more champions that potentially need to be crowned getting into tomorrow. How those matchups are shaping up. Let's first start with our 1A matchup. West Union taking on Taylor'sville. Game one, West Union taking that one 8 to3 against Taylorville, but game two happening at 1:00 on your Thursday. So hopefully those rain chances pan out. But if West Union wins that one, then we're looking at our second state champion here in the northern half of the Magnolia State. We also have our 6A matchup. This one back and forth. I'm going to say this as a biased uh South native. There should already be a state title in the north half. Saltillo unfortunately just a heartbreaker in game one 12 to1 losing that one but a dominant showing by the pitching staff winning game two three to one. Game three it's actually our first matchup heading into our Thursday that's at 10 a.m. So excited to see who comes out on top in that matchup. We of course talked about our Morville Troopers but let's also mention our uh Boonville Blue Devils representing us here in the North Half. Unfortunately falling to Presbyterian Christian this evening. I know we were talking earlier on at 6:00 how it was a 4 to0 lead. Presbyterian Christian adding another one to that lead and ending up taking game one.
Their uh pitching staff doing a great job, too. 13 strikeouts from their pitcher tonight, their ace. So, definitely a great showing and uh yeah, that's the reason why he's a big time commit, too. So, Booneville needing to take game two. They play Friday at 400 p.m. So, we'll see who comes on out on top in that one, but we have plenty of action heading into tomorrow. We'll keep you updated on those stats uh accordingly. But let's go ahead and bring it back to our room to room weather center so we can go over forecast not just for our high school eventually shifts east and works its way into Hoover Alabama. So my folks going to be dealing with some rainfall and so will folks traveling to see the Bulldogs take on Georgia. Yeah, the real Bulldogs take on Georgia there at 3 PM. We're 60% on those rain chances. So, I think we're going to be off and on in the scheduling. So, potentially moving it up. I wouldn't be shocked, but we're still uh not too far out. So, I guess that'd be a little bit tough scheduling there, but glad I don't make the decisions there. Nonetheless, they're watching the rainfall, and we are too.
So, grab that rain gear heading off to cheer on the Bulldogs take on Georgia tomorrow afternoon. But appreciate the folks there at Carl Hogan Toyota. Also appreciate the folks there at Linkston a lot with Casey Lot sponsoring our high school game of the week forecast. We're wrapping it up with our 202526 season and we're excited to bring it back next year and get all the sports rewrapped and going over those again. So we'll continue to do that coverage, but looking at the forecast, we're continuing to deal with those showers tonight. Overall remaining below severe limits, but looking at that latest return on radar, these have definitely come down and not just intensity, but coverage as well. looking about three hours ago where those were still packing a punch. That boundary now shifting more towards the east and taking the overall batch of rain chances with it. Don't be shocked if you're dealing with some light to moderate showers overnight, but that's why we lowered those percentages, but they will make a return by Thursday.
So, keep that rain gear around. You're going to need it. Uh bringing up the chat real quick, making sure I'm not missing anything. I do appreciate everyone for joining us tonight at 10:00. I hope that you guys have uh enjoyed your evening and had a wonderful Wednesday and looking forward to a terrific Thursday. Congratulations to Morville. I second that, Brenda.
Congrats to our Morville troopers. I know it's an exciting ride back to Lee County dealing with a little bit of rainfall. So, bus drivers, drive safe.
But other than that, should be a good looking forecast. And of course, good looking forecast because we have a state title mixed in there as well. So, make sure to download that Mississippi live weather app to keep you safe and keep you informed on what's moving into your area, whether that's rain chances or storms. We're looking at all that as well right here in the room weather center during our live broadcast. And those are coming up at 6:30, 7, and 7:30 with our meteorologist Caleb Edel. So, keep it here for the very latest. And we will be waking up bright and early, tracking some showers, also looking ahead to more storms as the week continues on. That as Mississippi live weather continues through your week bright and early on your Thursday.
March 24th, 2023 was a normal Friday.
You know, we knew the weather was not good, but we we needed to take shelter and we didn't have shelter. My husband and almost 2-year-old daughter, Ethan and Riley, they did lose their lives in the storm. Were still recovering from it, will always be recovering from it.
