[00:00:00]Here's what your federal rights are when it comes to holidays and work. Hi, I'm James Hucks. I'm an employment law attorney and I file a lot of EEOC [music] charges against bad companies. A lot of people would be surprised to hear this, but there's no federal law that actually says that you have to have off on holidays. So, when you get off on holidays, it's actually more an employer benefit than it is something that's required. If you don't get off on a holiday, there's nothing that says that they have [music] to give you holiday pay. Usually holiday pay is something like time and a half or maybe double or triple what your normal income might be.

[00:00:36]If a company is doing that for you, that's more a benefit individually offered by that company. [music] Even if you are off, there's nothing that says that your company has to pay you for your time off. When that is offered, it's something that again is a company benefit. So, a lot of companies offer these things because they want to be competitive with other companies cuz a lot of companies do have those offerings. Even if you don't have any rights to holiday pay or time off on holidays under federal law, you could still get that benefit under state law.
