Obwaka family links senior State House official to doctor’s final daysAdded:
Now, the family of the late Dr. Job Obwaka, a board member of Nairobi Hospital, is now linking a senior state official to the tribulations that befell the deceased from his arrest to his death. Speaking during a memorial service held at Situm Church in Nairobi, Obwaka's family revealed that the late Obwaka was threatened to withdraw a court case filed to block the state from interfering with the operations of the hospital and that he confided in his wife that his life was in danger. Our senior reporter, Jeff Koinange, with the details.
Until his arrest on March 14th this year over troubles facing Nairobi Hospital, Dr. Job Obwaka, then serving as a board member of the Nairobi Hospital, was in the shadows of the public eye.
The family has now revealed disturbing details that led to his arrest and incarceration at Pangani Police Station, which they believe complicated his health condition, ultimately leading to his death. His widow, Everlyne Kim Tai, told mourners at the memorial service that the late Dr. Obwaka was summoned to the office of the president and coerced to withdraw the case. One person there who is a colleague in told called him, "Obwaka, Obwaka, Dr. Obwaka, go to the court high court and withdraw the case that you took there." According to the family, his refusal to withdraw the case made him a marked man, leading to his arrest. It became now the the pain in somebody who is up there who thinks I'm a closer to a shima.
While at Pangani Police Station, the motive of the weekend arrest would come to the fore. When we even said now, "Okay, fine. You have refused to give him bond or whatever money you want to put, can you even give him a mattress?"
His doctor, Dr. Wanyeke, called him and and and send a letter to me his letter now to say, "This is a patient This is an old man, he's been done open heart surgery. He doesn't need to be in the cold."
That letter came. Do you know what the policeman said?
They have no Their hands are tied.
They're getting instructions from number That was their story.
I'll not lie in in the in my husband's casket. Job did not die quietly.
He died wounded, not by disease, by by betrayal. Even though the postmortem report conducted on May 5th confirmed that Dr. O'Buaka died of cardiac arrest, his family is not convinced. We take it with a pinch of salt, but we know that the actual report will be complete when the toxicology report comes.
One Beatrice Wangare was held by police as person of interest in the doctor's death. The prosecution told the court that Wangare was in a relationship with Dr. O'Buaka, and that she was the last person with the deceased. He had a big heart.
I'm going to scare my Nanao Mengi.
The smartest guy, the guy with a good car, the guy with money in the pocket.
Who does not have eyes for that?
The family is now calling on the director of public prosecutions and the DCI to withdraw the case against the deceased and release all his belongings, which they say are still in the custody of the DCI. They took his car.
They have locked it at the DCI.
With everything, his phone.
You know, everything that he was wearing on the day of the party is not his. His are old.
Even his glasses, they have they have held the glasses.
And they are doing investigations. Tell me if I'm crazy.
What did the car do wrong? Release his personal things and so on. Don't hold anything.
And I hope it will be released before midnight tonight. The late Dr. O'Buaka will be buried on Friday in Musanda Village, Mumias in Kakamega County.
