The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa, a volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, was one of history's deadliest volcanic events, releasing energy equivalent to 13,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs, killing over 36,000 people, causing global temperatures to drop by 0.6°C, and creating surreal blood-red sunsets and blue moons due to volcanic ash and sulfur particles scattering sunlight.

The day the earth went silent: The Krakatoa CataclysmAjouté :
The eruption of Krakatoa remains one of the most deadly and violent volcanic events in modern history. The sheer power of this blast was equivalent to 13,000 times the nuclear energy that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Krakatoa was a volcanic island situated in the Sunda Strait lying right between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. The cataclysm unfolded through a series of massive explosions beginning on August 26th, 1883 and reaching its terrifying peak the following morning.
The sound was so deafening it was clearly heard as far away as Alice Springs, Australia generating a force equal to a 200 megaton bomb it instantly claimed over 36,000 lives. The aftermath was apocalyptic. Months global temperatures plummeted by 0.6° C and a brand new island emerged from the abyss known as the child of Krakatoa.
Strangely the massive amount of volcanic ash and sulfur released into the atmosphere altered the sunlight forever creating surreal blood red sunsets and turning the moon into a rare haunting shade of blue.
