[00:00:12]Krakatoa was a volcanic island situated in the Sunda Strait lying right between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. The cataclysm unfolded through a series of massive explosions beginning on August 26th, 1883 and reaching its terrifying peak the following morning.

[00:00:25]The sound was so deafening it was clearly heard as far away as Alice Springs, Australia generating a force equal to a 200 megaton bomb it instantly claimed over 36,000 lives. The aftermath was apocalyptic. Months global temperatures plummeted by 0.6° C and a brand new island emerged from the abyss known as the child of Krakatoa.
