I I just loved how I just love how they are doing everything. And I said that [music] I will be doing today because I'm not patient until tomorrow and I will do it today. So I'm talking about a video from Fernway Chronicles. I bet that you know them and you remember that we me and Daniel we did react to their videos before and their videos are amazing guys. [00:02:05]Uh as you know, or if you don't know, they are traveling with uh their two children.

[00:02:13]Hopefully now they don't have three, I don't know, but from what I know they have a a boy and a girl.

[00:02:21]And they are traveling everywhere with them. So, they are very very brave.

[00:07:24]>> Up here in the middle of the islands, there's a natural phenomenon we had to check off our bucket list before heading for the sea nomads. A lake full of something that, anywhere else in the world, you'd want to swim away from.

[00:08:30]>> Today you guys going to visit the jellyfish lake. It's a small lake. The water inside is much more warmer than the water outside.

[00:09:09]With no predators left, the jellyfish slowly let go of their sting.

[00:09:13]Nonetheless, they still needed some getting used to.

[00:09:34]>> I didn't think there were like any when we first showed up.

[00:09:37]And then once we were swimming out, there were literally thousands.

[00:09:42]All over my face, all over my body.

[00:09:57]>> [music] >> This is the craziest thing I've ever experienced in my life. Well, top three.

[00:10:13]>> On our way back, we drove past a small island inhabited by three different tribal communities. One of them being Bajau, giving us a small glimpse [music] into what the large ocean settlement in the south would bring the following day.

[00:10:29]>> [music] >> It's rumbling out there. We have to hurry up.

[00:10:32]>> Is that what that was?

[00:10:33]>> Mhm. Yeah.

[00:10:34]>> I thought it was completely >> Don't worry about anything. Hey guys, the the boat is here to take us to the village.

[00:10:41]I thought they were with you.

[00:10:42]Your kids?

[00:19:28]But uh The crown of thorns starfish, venomous spines and all, clearly wasn't one of Mando's concerns.

[00:19:35]You know, whatever anyone could have told me about watching a Bajau freediver in his element, none of it could have prepared us for this.

[00:19:43]No fins, just wooden goggles and a homemade spear gun.

[00:19:47]In all our travels, there have been few times we've been truly speechless, and this was one of them.

[00:20:01]The breath-holding alone was hard to believe, but what really stood out to me was the ease with which he moved through the water and across the reef.

[00:20:10]You could tell that over his lifetime, he hadn't just spent days or weeks down here, but years.

[00:20:16]>> He's all life.

[00:20:17]>> It felt like he was quite literally a part of this alien world.

[00:20:27]>> That's amazing and scary at the same time.

[00:20:30]For me.

[00:20:43]>> The reason the Bajau can hold their breath for so long was discovered in 2018 when scientists documented something never seen in [music] humans before, an evolutionary adaptation to the sea.

[00:20:55]The Bajau's spleens are about 50% larger than their land-dwelling neighbors, like an organic dive tank storing oxygen-rich blood and releasing it when needed. It showed up even in the Bajau who don't dive. Proof that it isn't something they train for, it's something they were born with.

[00:21:23]I knew it was going to be crazy, but seeing it in action and seeing it live is something else entirely. That guy >> I'm speechless.

[00:22:06]So, Kaba Lutan is a little village that's clinging onto these rocks and the built-up edges of an atoll. There are 3,000 people who live out here.

[00:22:17]>> They are quite remote, isn't it?

[00:22:19]>> densely populated areas on Earth per square meter of land.

[00:22:24]My favorite parts about all of this is there are no other tourists around. And by the looks on the kids' faces, it appears that there hasn't been foreigners >> Yeah, for a very long time someone there, no, visited.

[00:23:46]They just do that crazy free dive breath and then they go down.

[00:30:34]>> So why are they called sea nomads if they live in villages, you ask? Well, the Bajau were once fully nomadic seafarers, spending their entire lives on boats, traveling from reef to reef.

[00:30:45]They came ashore only rarely to trade, to make repairs, to collect fresh water, and to bury their dead. In fact, they used to say the Bajau only ever came ashore to die.

[00:30:55]One by one, most of them have come ashore for good, settling into permanent villages on stilts at the water's edge, or built up reefs like the one in Kabalutan, with one foot on land and one in the ocean.

[00:31:06]Mando and Budiman somehow still feel like part of that older world, the one that's, you know, slowly fading away.

[00:31:22]>> That's amazing.

[00:38:04]So, for us it was always a priority to have our kids grow up with a deep connection with the ocean and everything in it.

[00:38:11]But, watching them out here diving like they never had before, it was beyond anything we'd hoped for.

[00:38:35]>> So, at one point Bodhi went to show me that he can dive all the way to the bottom.

[00:38:41]>> And as he descends, this little fish starts going with him and swimming all around him, went all the way to the bottom with him, and then came all the way up with him and was swimming all around his legs.

[00:38:52]>> So, so how does he go down? That's something I noticed.
