Reducing political discourse to performative stunts marks the final surrender of substance to the mindless pursuit of viral engagement. It is a tragic symptom of a democracy that values a candidate's relatability over their actual capacity to govern.

Twerking For VotesAdded:
Twerking for votes is a perfect metaphor for the current state of politics. This is Shelby Campbell. She holds a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and she's running for Congress. The main guy she wants to defeat in the race is Shri Tanadar. He's rich and he's been heavily associated with those labs to test things on beagles, which leads to people having to rescue the Beagles. But when he came up in an interview that Shelby had with Fox Detroit, she said something that really made me think.
>> What's your thoughts on him? Um, I just want younger people in office and he's a millionaire so I don't have that and he does. So, it's very hard for him to relate to the people. Doubling down.
>> Such a simple obvious answer and I agree. I think most people under 35 would agree that a more relatable candidate would be one that wasn't alive when Scarface came out.
>> You want to run your mouth? We can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here.
>> Okay, that's fine. Perfect.
>> You want to do it now?
>> I'd love to do it right now.
>> We'll stand your butt up then.
>> Right now. will stain your butt up.
>> You stand your butt up.
>> Oh, hold on. No, stop it.
>> You know you're a United States senator.
Sit down. Okay, sit down, please.
>> And that most people in general would more relate to someone who wasn't a millionaire, but just voting wise, people aged 30 to 34 are the largest single age demographic in the United States. Anyway, I've seen some more controversial takes from her, and ultimately this video isn't about her.
It's about the idea of twerking for votes and a younger candidate running on the platform of I'm just like you, so vote for me strategy, but this time it's actually true. Her entire campaign represents a trend of millennial politicians going completely against a traditional political campaign of a rich guy or rich lady trying to seem as down to earth as possible before the ad ends and they can have their assistant fetch some expensive champagne. And it just makes sense. You can't be relatable to most people as a millionaire. So what are you supposed to do? Not be a millionaire? Well, yes. And that's the best part of politicians like this. But just being an average relatable person doesn't actually mean that you're good for politics. But is this actually new?
Well, not really. We had a Rhode Island senator doing the same thing back in 2022. And right now we have seven people serving in state Congress. Right now they were elected at age 19 with the oldest being Joseph Sweeney in New Hampshire who at 32 has been serving in the House of Representatives since 2012 when he was 19. And not to mention, an 18-year-old was also elected in New Hampshire in 2022. So age isn't everything when it comes to the current era of politics. But I can't think of a better example for this era than a high ranking Department of Homeland Security official flexing her position to get her and her sugar daddy through airport security faster. The same sugar daddy that said he witnessed her recreationally taking Xanax on multiple occasions. A woman who was second in command of counterterrorism. I learned about this a while back when it happened, but I just couldn't figure out how to bring it up. I knew it meant something, but then Shelby Campbell put it all into perspective. South Korean Twitch streamer Sora was on a stream one day when somebody randomly donated $100,000. Imagine if she created a campaign fund. Seriously though, people have been saying for years that politics is just theater. But if that's true, or even if politics is so theatrical that such an example could serve as a valid comparison, then that means you don't actually have to be an entertainer, just entertaining. Because I'm not going to say that entertainment won Donald Trump the 2016 and 2024 elections, but it certainly won him a lot of public approval. Like he's really the best example in recent memory of someone whose popularity is much higher when he's trying to get elected rather than when he's actually in office. Donald Trump is definitely a master at using social media to campaign for office. Or I should say the guys on his team are really good at it. And due to the fact that he's been in the spotlight for longer than JD Vance has been alive, he definitely knew how to utilize the one thing people crave when they look at a screen, entertainment. He also had one single day where he tweeted 142 different times. But that's nothing compared to the fact that he launched his own social media platform with millions of users. And you could reasonably argue that majority of the time people spend on social media is spent on entertainment. And the two largest age demographics on social media are also the groups with the most significant rise in voter turnout over the last 30 years. At least according to the Eagles Institute of Politics at Ruggers University. Aside from women over 75 for some reason, they also had a pretty big rise. But it's strange that something as serious as politics gets played off as one big show, which is pretty dystopian considering that political implications sometimes involve drone strikes. Ads during campaign season in the US are ridiculous and kind of insulting to your intelligence.
>> I'm Joanie Ernst. I grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm.
>> You just might need that semi-automatic.
>> Is it like this in other countries?
>> If you live in or around Bllythe, you're going to want to hear this.
We're giving your town >> I lose my virginity this morning.
Steady.
>> Oh, okay. I guess so. But is twerking for votes really a viable strategy? I mean, it could be. At the very least, pointing out the fact that you're more relatable than a millionaire definitely made me listen to her. But I've also heard her say some things about Charlie Kirk and she even justified it because her voter base doesn't like him. But honestly, he's dead at this point. No matter what you thought of him, we should be more focused on living people with political influence. It's really no point to keep circling back around to someone who's no longer alive. And people on the right as well as multiple media outlets keep calling her a Democrat, but she stated publicly that she's an independent candidate, which is what I figured because she doesn't appear to have the backing of a major party, at least not officially. And you know what that means? She's probably not going to win anything. But a young candidate that's actually endorsed by a party has a real chance to give people hope. At least I still don't trust politics, but look at someone like Zoron Mdani. Whether you agree with his policies or ideology, you have to admit that he represents a huge change in politics from the traditional millionaire or hedge fund manager jumping into an election cycle simply because they can afford to. But then you have guys like Dan Bazerian running for Congress in Florida, a man whose entire social media presence was just him throwing yacht parties. This is the same guy who lied about being a self-made millionaire from playing poker when he was actually just a trust fund kid that became a lifestyle influencer because again his entire digital footprint is just yacht parties. It really can't get more theatrical than someone like Dan running for Congress. But he has over 29 million followers. So imagine if even 15% of them are in Florida and able to actually vote for him. I don't even understand what his political stance is because he always lies. His website says no more Jewish supremacy. But I think he forgot that he himself is Jewish.
Clearly just trying to take advantage of whatever political stance he believes his supporters to have. An unrelatable trust fund kid who could never be a man of the people like Gary Chambers. a man running for US Senate in Louisiana that smoked a heavily stuffed backwood in his own campaign ad because he supports legalization. And I have to say that's different. He did this four years ago and I'm genuinely shocked that I never heard of him. And even though he came in second place, he was fighting a pretty tough uphill battle as a Democrat trying to win a Senate seat in deep south Louisiana. Politics has just become very unserious. back when I was a kid and Barack Obama was still president. A YouTuber named James Davis went viral for a parody he made where he played Barack Obama as a rapper. And part of the reason it went viral in 2010 is because back then politicians reviewed as many things, but an entertainer wasn't one of them. And something like this was completely out of the ordinary, but now it wouldn't even be that surprising to see a political candidate rapping. The current mayor of New York City has been rapping since like 2016.
And this era didn't really start with Barack Obama, but he was the first presidential candidate to utilize social media because, well, it barely existed before he ran for president. Twerking for votes isn't the main point of this video, but it certainly is a metaphor.
Entertaining for political gain. Not saying that's what Zoron did. He's just an example of a millennial politician whose background might go against an older boomer voter base. But Dan Bazerian running for Congress is, however, a great example of the insulting part of this trend. expecting votes, not because of his political ideology, but just because he's famous.
So, where is all of this headed? I don't know, man. Probably a Twitch streamer president by 2040. Hell, by 2040, I'll be old enough to run for president, but I'm sure everything will be fine, right?
Anyway, that's all I got for now. I appreciate you guys for watching and supporting. I love you guys. Remember to follow your dreams, even if that dream is being a politician. But thanks for watching and I'll see you next time.
