In active conflict zones, declared ceasefires often do not result in actual cessation of hostilities, as military forces maintain operational readiness and continue offensive operations even during officially announced truces, with frontline soldiers reporting ongoing artillery strikes, drone attacks, and continued combat activities despite ceasefire declarations.

FRONTLINE ALERT! War pause starts, Zelensky and Putin reached a dealAdded:
Ukraine is declaring a ceasefire starting at midnight on May 6th.
President Womir Zalinski announced. He noted that given the time left before the ceasefire takes effect, it is realistic to ensure the fighting stops.
However, during the ceasefire, the Ukrainian side will act in a mirrored fashion. The day before, Russia unilaterally announced a ceasefire for May 8th and 9th. The Russian Ministry of Defense made the corresponding statement. The occupiers are afraid of Ukrainian drone attacks during the parade on May 9th. So, they've already threatened KAV with retaliatory strikes, although there have been no official appeals to Ukraine regarding a sessation of hostilities.
But are there any signs of readiness for a ceasefire on the front lines? Have the Russians reduced their activity? TSN correspondent Natalyia Nahorna visited one of the areas we've come to call hotspots. She's with us live now, so we can ask for more details. So, Natalia, how are the guys on the front reacting to all this news about the so-called ceasefire first announced by Russia and then Ukraine's response? Uh, and what's actually happening there right now?
What's the situation like over there?
>> Good afternoon, everyone. Well, first of all, I want to say that I'm in the dugout right now, not because it's especially dangerous, but simply because the internet works better here. And uh just a reminder, there are still more than 8 hours left until the ceasefire that Voladir Zalinsky mentioned. So uh if there are targets and if there's aggression from Russia, then of course it's possible and necessary to respond to that. Right now we're on what's called the Alexandroka direction. This is between Dyropatros region and Zaparisia. And uh actually from what we saw today, well, Russian aerial bombs were falling on neighboring villages and there was already a Shahed drone threat.
Uh we also heard FPV drones flying somewhere nearby. But at the same time, uh well, we're talking about the army first and foremost. So if the military is given an order, uh that well, fire is to be temporarily ceased, of course, they don't just shoot on their own because they feel like it. These are soldiers and if they have targets. Well, right now we're working with the artillerymen. For example, today we witnessed how the soldiers of the 148th separate artillery brigade from were operating. It was a high value target.
The ceasefire hadn't started yet. Of course, this target needed to be hit and hit in such a way that the enemy would feel it. Also, today we saw Ukrainian aircraft in the sky, and that was nice, too, because well, you know, I'm someone who's seen a lot of ceasefires in 12 years of war, maybe even too many, and a lot of them didn't work. But of course when we talked to the soldiers about whether they were ready they said yes of course we have they give us targets to shoot at. And of course no one is going to and the Ukrainian army has proven this for many years. No one is going to tolerate Russian aggression. And when especially when we have the means uh they fight back. And here's something nice we've seen here. We do have the means. Uh, for example, next I'd really like you to watch our story about one of the crews of the GRD combat vehicle. And when we when we met them, they greeted us with a full load and let them tell you about it themselves. Watch this in our upcoming story.
You could watch this forever.
There are only moments. These are grad salvos fired at the enemy in the trails of rockets in the sky. This >> cease fire for the vehicle.
>> The GRAD are combat vehicles that fought in 2014, but due to the Minsk agreements were banned for a long time. They've returned to the front in 2022.
There was a time when due to a shortage of ammunition, they were hardly used, but now they're back in action.
>> We have plenty of shells. I mean, yeah, we've got more than enough to shoot with.
>> Pav is the commander of this crow. The vehicle is old, but you see, even in our modern war, it still does its job effectively.
In other words, it covers the area just like it's supposed to.
>> Multiple launch rocket systems have been in production for over 60 years. Pavuk is 25 now, and he's one of those Ukrainians who in 2022 returned from abroad to defend Ukraine.
>> I was in Poland when the full-scale war started.
>> And you could have chosen not to come back.
>> Of course. Of course, I could have said.
each made the choice.
>> Do you regret it?
>> Not at all. Look, just check out the guys I'm running around with here laughing together.
>> He calls his fellow paratroopers from the 148th Artillery Brigade Kasox. Ripka is responsible for making sure the vehicle works.
>> If the vehicle doesn't work, then we won't have any work to do either.
So, we try to keep it running all the time.
>> Yeah. We take care of it, like they say, like a child. So, it's always ready for action.
The warrant officer is the one driving.
>> Warn officer. Warn officer over.
>> He jokes about himself. A warrant officer with experience.
>> He was a warrant officer back in the last millennium.
>> He was among those who were laid off in 2005 when the army was deemed unnecessary. But he came back first in 2014, then again in 2022, becoming a paratrooper.
>> I don't kid myself. I left. I have three kids. Well, I have three boys. It is much more effective when we lead others by setting our own personal example.
>> He repeats what the volunteers from the ATO days used to say about the occupiers.
>> They won't stop. It'll just be, so to speak, a frozen conflict, but it it won't freeze completely.
>> Of course, the war has lasted longer than anyone here could have imagined.
28-year-old Vlad is really looking forward to finally being able to return.
move to Zakarpatia where his fiance lives and get married. And there are so many things about the war that you might not like. What do you dislike the most?
Unmanned drones, constant incoming air strikes, and completely devastated villages and cities.
>> Paratrooper Maxim explains, "What's even harder is the thought that fellow citizens aren't in a hurry to help. Do you feel like someone might come and replace you?"
>> Honestly, no. But no matter how hard it gets, the vehicle loaded with grads is ready.
And once again, it heads out to the starting positions.
Vlad carefully adjust the aiming device and Pavuk issues the final command to fire.
>> Let's work. Reeba, fire your weapon five times.
>> Copy that.
>> These Grad Rockets fly 40 km and are always a surprise for the enemy. And even though people keep saying this is a drone war now, somewhere out there on the front line, when our infantry sees that the artillery has their back, they breathe a sigh of relief.
This kind of fire support allows our troops to keep the enemy from advancing and to move forward themselves.
>> The airborne assault group and other adjacent units continue active offensive operations in the Alexandrifka direction. Since the beginning of the operation, about 480 square kilometers have been liberated as well as six settlements in the Denai propatros region and six settlements in the Zaparisia region.
