Politicians who assume 'safe districts' guarantee victory without actively engaging voters risk losing their political support, as demonstrated by how Democrats abandoned rural America by not showing up, while Republicans exploited this neglect; the solution is direct voter engagement rather than relying on redistricting maps or party labels.

Resistance Truth 5.6.26Added:
I'm Vic Myers. Welcome to the resistance.
How about all these redistricting battles?
How about we uh stop wasting so much time focusing on them?
Everybody's assuming that if the state redraws its districts to favor a particular party, well, then that party will automatically win those districts.
Kind of mentality, well, it pisses me off.
Think about it. When they redraw these districts, they're deciding who they don't have to show up for anymore.
And in a safe district, that's usually their own voters.
Isn't that how we got in this mess in the first place?
Rural America turned red because Democrats stopped asking them for their votes.
Dems assumed that working-class rural folks would remember all the good things FDR, a Democrat, did for rural America.
They figured that gave them the leeway to be more friendly with Wall Street, to be more centrist.
Funny thing is, Republicans aren't any different.
They've been running their own version of it for years.
They've been banking on the idea that rural folks will just think about how Dems stopped talking to rural folks.
And they'll send postcards and make Facebook posts constantly remind them.
But you know what else they're doing?
What Democrats started doing back in the '90s.
They stopped showing up.
They don't have town halls. They don't champion legislation that'll help rural America.
They do champion legislation that hurts rural America.
Then they post another meme on social media about how bad the Dems are.
They've basically become a one-trick pony.
Meanwhile, the Democrats in office around the country are playing the Republicans' redistricting game and dancing to the Republicans' out-of-tune redistricting music.
Not this Democrat.
My district is supposed to be safely red.
That's why there hadn't been serious for this seat until now.
That's why we ended up with a proud boy three percenter goon as our state representative.
Yeah, I've been doing my homework on him.
I'm not sitting back and assuming he's going to win just because it's a quote-unquote safe district.
I'm going out and talking to the voters.
And guess what?
First thing I do after introducing myself is ask them if they know who their current state representative is.
They don't.
Because he's doing exactly what all the politicians making noise about redistricting are doing.
He expects them to vote for him just because he's a Republican.
If you're a Democrat, especially a candidate or elected official crying over all this redistricting drama, I have a suggestion for you.
Quit crying.
Do what I'm doing.
Go find a dirt road, see where it leads, and talk to the person at the end of it.
Thanks for listening.
Good day.
