[00:00:07]How about we uh stop wasting so much time focusing on them?

[00:00:12]Everybody's assuming that if the state redraws its districts to favor a particular party, well, then that party will automatically win those districts.

[00:00:21]Kind of mentality, well, it pisses me off.

[00:00:25]Think about it. When they redraw these districts, they're deciding who they don't have to show up for anymore.

[00:00:31]And in a safe district, that's usually their own voters.

[00:00:35]Isn't that how we got in this mess in the first place?

[00:00:39]Rural America turned red because Democrats stopped asking them for their votes.

[00:00:44]Dems assumed that working-class rural folks would remember all the good things FDR, a Democrat, did for rural America.

[00:00:52]They figured that gave them the leeway to be more friendly with Wall Street, to be more centrist.

[00:00:59]Funny thing is, Republicans aren't any different.

[00:01:03]They've been running their own version of it for years.

[00:01:06]They've been banking on the idea that rural folks will just think about how Dems stopped talking to rural folks.

[00:01:12]And they'll send postcards and make Facebook posts constantly remind them.

[00:01:17]But you know what else they're doing?

[00:01:19]What Democrats started doing back in the '90s.

[00:01:21]They stopped showing up.

[00:01:23]They don't have town halls. They don't champion legislation that'll help rural America.

[00:01:28]They do champion legislation that hurts rural America.

[00:01:32]Then they post another meme on social media about how bad the Dems are.

[00:01:37]They've basically become a one-trick pony.

[00:01:40]Meanwhile, the Democrats in office around the country are playing the Republicans' redistricting game and dancing to the Republicans' out-of-tune redistricting music.

[00:01:51]Not this Democrat.

[00:01:53]My district is supposed to be safely red.

[00:01:56]That's why there hadn't been serious for this seat until now.

[00:02:00]That's why we ended up with a proud boy three percenter goon as our state representative.

[00:02:05]Yeah, I've been doing my homework on him.

[00:02:08]I'm not sitting back and assuming he's going to win just because it's a quote-unquote safe district.

[00:02:14]I'm going out and talking to the voters.

[00:02:16]And guess what?

[00:02:17]First thing I do after introducing myself is ask them if they know who their current state representative is.

[00:02:23]They don't.

[00:02:25]Because he's doing exactly what all the politicians making noise about redistricting are doing.

[00:02:31]He expects them to vote for him just because he's a Republican.

[00:02:36]If you're a Democrat, especially a candidate or elected official crying over all this redistricting drama, I have a suggestion for you.

[00:02:45]Quit crying.

[00:02:46]Do what I'm doing.

[00:02:48]Go find a dirt road, see where it leads, and talk to the person at the end of it.
