Just out here finishing Uncle Mike's heads for his Model A. Uh, as promised, this was going to be part two, but I got a little ahead of myself and just about got it finished up. Uh, working on the, uh, the valve job now, putting those oversized valves in. And, um, I've did this before. I've showed you guys how I do a three angle valve job. Um, this a basic performance valve job. Now, max effort, I would do some more blends, you know, we would do some port and so forth. This just a little 400 horse steel like we talked about for a real light little stick shift uh street car, little deuce coupe. So, I'm just going to show you uh we already got the uh intakes blasted out again. Old 441 open chamber heads, factory valves were 150, 1.500 exhaust, 194 intake. We've opened them up for a 202 intake and the 160 exhaust, your run of the mill. 202 160. Uh good modification. It's worth doing. uh definitely get you, you know, taking a a set of heads like this and uh picking up 25 horsepower just by putting the larger valves on. That's what I found uh in uh testing. Looking for a word to say here, but uh going start out with 30°. We're going to open this up.
>> Got my caliper set. This is how much I want to open it up. You look at the seat where it is from the 150. So, we want to get it that that much larger of valve we're putting in there. So, I'm going to take my 30 and I'm going to open my 30 up just a hair past my finished diameter. So, >> 30 stone.
>> And of course, I can't hold it and grind it. So, I'm going to grind it. I'm going to show you that one's done. Of >> course, we use our little magic marker to measure our width. Right now, we're shooting for 75 to 80 wide of a seat on the intake, >> and I want 100 uh 90 to 100,000 on the exhaust width of my 45 seat angle.
>> Let's go ahead and go ahead and grind some breathe some cast iron in.
>> The stone age life.
>> This was part two of these 441 heads we were working on uh last week. I just didn't get a chance to uh make a good video to upload it. But uh when we left off, we did all the preliminary machine work. We cleaned them, pressure tested them, we surfaced them, we cut the uh guide bosses for the perfect circle seals and the oversized springs. And today we're just finishing the three angle valve job. Again, these were old 441 open chamber 1941 150s that we're putting a set of 202 intake 160 exhaust valves in. And uh it's dirty, gritty work when you're doing it the stone life, meaning using the old form stones uh like they did back in the day. Um, I can cut >> uh seats with my seat uh cutter uh apparatus that I bought from Goodson.
But, uh, I don't know on this machine, it just it seems to to leave a little bit of a chatter or when you stop it, it leaves that little transition mark. And, uh, for everything but stock heads, I'll do valve jobs on this machine. They're a little quicker, but uh I feel like to get the quality I want for a performance engine, um the form stones, I still haven't found uh something uh more precise that I could control. Now, you know, not saying there's nothing not saying there isn't something out there.
I'm sure a new one or a uh probably could do a better job, but uh this is what I got to work with. This is what I've been working with for the last 40 years. And uh just make sure you wear a particle mask. And these aren't even these are the 3M paper masks I just use one time and throw out. But uh you really need to wear a mask with this stuff cuz this breathing cast iron uh dusting will kill you. But again, just showing you how I do it. Again, these aren't videos on how uh how to how you should do it. Just showing you how we do it. But, uh, this a three angle valve job opened up. And you can see got your 60, your 45, and your 30. Nothing too crazy cuz this is a just for a little street deal going in an old model A coupe. Uh 400 horse motor. Uh what we're looking for hydraulic roller cam and this is actually uh I'll try to do a little video when we get this in the vehicle running. Uh we built them a little 380 in uh Dstroker. It's a 400 block with a 3-in 500 stroke crank in it and it's stick shift car. Old Model A similar to like the old American graffiti coupe that John Milner used to drive. But uh I think it'll have a little bit of pep in it step. So, just finished up the intake on this side. And how I do it, I I'll do all the intakes first. Then after I finish the intake, then I'll set up my exhaust. So, this one here is complete.
>> And this one here, I'm getting ready to do the exhaust seats. And the old 441s uh have induction hardened seats on the exhaust, so they're nice. So, they'll hold up well with pump gas. But, uh so I'm going to blow this one off. Get that on there. finish the valve job and then uh tomorrow night we'll uh we'll put these suckers together and we'll call Uncle Mike and uh he could come pick them up. But just wanted to catch up with you guys. Uh I was going to do a part two, but just been running crazy doing a million different things. Uh finished up that sleeve job on that uh the motor for a skid steer for a Bobcat and you got to cut the sleeves out of these and then we cut them out.
press the new ones in and then bore them, top them, and mill the deck. So, this old uh this little good steer motor for a Bobcat, some kind of diesel. I don't even know who manufactures these if they're a some kind of foreign diesel or an international. I don't know. We're not building it. We just came in for the machine work. They came in with he brought the sleeve kit and piston. So, that one's done. Nothing too uh you know, typical LS heads. working on that.
I want to show you that Omobile we're working on this week, but uh at 455 we're building, but nothing uh real uh interesting. So, haven't been posting a lot, but uh just knocking the jobs out as we go. So, let me finish these exhaust seats up and uh >> we'll get these suckers put together and uh >> another job bites the dust out the door.

>> I was trying to hold it and grind at the same time. See, that's what I'm looking for there. I just >> want to go just beyond where my 45 angle's going to sit. So, uh, the width of that is that magic marker section up there. So only about 20 25,000 wide there at the most.
>> That's what we're looking for there >> on our top angle that relieves some material so we can get our 45. Now we'll take our magic marker and our Sharpie.
>> Put a nice little >> line there so we can see the transition so we can measure that finished seat width. Like I said, street car shooting for between 90 and 100,000 width for my 45 for my seat face. And on the intake, I'll go a little narrower. I'll go about 75 to 80 uh or 70 to 80 on the intake.
So, the intake doesn't see as much heat, so we can go a little narrower. So, all right, let's go ahead and uh pop our 45 up in here. [music] And I'm just going to show you quickly see the transition.
See the transition starting. See the 45 coming up from the bottom. We'll bring that all the way now.
>> And I already did this in in the previous video. So I don't want to do a lot of, you know, overlaps of the same thing showing you guys. But see, I got to take that 45 right there right now. I got to take it out >> to the to my caliber. So it's got to go a little more. So, I'm going to put the phone down and finish this up. Like I said, just showing you Uncle Mike's heads. Uncle Mike was in the video a couple days ago. We had the NHR tech man here. These are for his personal ride.
And uh I said, we we'll uh we'll keep up with him. We'll go over there and video it once he gets the motor running. We we built the motor here, the bottom end.
He's going to finish up the top end himself. So, let me finish these seats up and then uh then I'll show you from there. And uh then these suckers will be done. We clean them and put them together.
>> All right. All right. So, we finished grinding our 45.
Take his mask down so you can hear me.
>> 45 45 right to the top.
>> And from here, >> going take my 60 and I'll blend that up now. But, um, said it's some nasty stuff. This cast iron. Do this your whole life in a basement. You be lucky probably to live to 60.
So anyway, enough for that.
I'll just show you. See, now we're starting to raise our 60 up. And we'll raise it up all the way till we get our 100,000 dimension of our width, seat width that we want to hold. You see that one's already done.
So you can kind of see the width there.
So we got a little more to go. So I'm going to put this phone down. I'm going to finish up this head and uh all we have to do is clean it and uh set his springs up, put it together. I'll probably finish today uh just on these seats and throw them in the washer tomorrow, Monday morning, and we'll put them together uh for them. So, that's what we're doing. Uh >> got a little news on the funny car. Uh you know, I'm I'm at that by myself now.
Uh you know, uh I told you guys brother's going different directions.
So, uh, so I'm I'm forging ahead on my own. So, uh, making a couple little changes to the motor there. Um, >> cuz we're going NH racing now, boys. Me and IH, they don't know what they're doing. They're going back bracket racing. Sucks. We didn't even we didn't even get to make it before they to bed. But, uh, that's all right. We're going NH racing, but I think I might just have an inn where, uh, maybe we'll have a chance to be competitive. I'll go over that at a later date. But, uh, as of for now, I'll finish breathing this cast iron in, finish this valve job up, and get Uncle Mike out of my hair. So, all right. I'll catch up with you guys during the week this week when, uh, something, uh, a little more, uh, something with a little more meat and potatoes structure comes in that we can talk about.
