Best Roller for Override? TipsAdded:
Hey guys, Luke here and today I have a lot of robot ratings to get through again and also even some actual bot builds through here as well and of course some roller roller tech as well.
As you can see, there's some actual bots being built. So, we'll go through all these. But before we start though, I want to say thank you guys for 15,000 subscribers. And yeah, the the the merch is dropping. It's called the build to inspire hoodie. It's pretty tough. If you want to check it out, it's on robitics.mmyshopify.com.
I'll have it in the comments and in the description as well. Uh there's currently these two colors, um black and then there's this uh navy dark blue color. Um and of course there's also this meme hat if you want if you want to get it. Um uh but yeah, if you want to want to support me, it' be super super nice if you guys want to if you guys think it's cool uh to, you know, get some of these hoodies and stuff. about $50. And also the shipping will be like 20ish days cuz I'm getting it from China. I visited the factories recently myself to make sure that they're high quality stuff. They're high quality stuff. And um yeah, basically I mean that's that's pretty much it. It's Shopify. You just kind of put in your like address and stuff and they'll ship it to your door. Um but but yeah, that's that that's pretty much it.
If you if you if you like uh my videos and you like the design as well, the the design's pretty cool. I think it's it's pretty tough. Um go ahead and place an order uh for the pre-order or whatever.
But yeah, let's get straight into it, though. I know that the last video um somebody pointed out that my um that I called a I accidentally called a cas or a continuous lift, a cascade lift, and I finally uh learned the difference between those. A continuous lift uses one continuous string or uh mechanism to lift the whole thing up as its name suggests. And a cascade lift is every single like part of the lift is connected to the next part using a string and they're separate. So there's that. Um but as you can see I already braided these because I was filmed a video earlier and it didn't film. So that kind of sucks. But uh that just means that I I can talk even more and uh better about these bots. So uh rate the bot please. I'm bad at raiders. Uh it's not a bad you should have provided more photos. But immediately [clears throat] let's speed run this. So first off this is totally going to bend. Uh unless this this unless you're um actually whether or not this this license plate is is support or not, this triangle brace is way too low. make it higher because uh as we've seen from spin up roller blades and whatever, this is going to bend like this is going to get hit hit inwards.
Using one by ones, even if they're half cut through wides, they're probably still going to bend. Um and and also it's not like supported side to side as well. That's also kind of an issue. If you want, you can try to support it side to side. Uh not like 100% necessary, but at least at least fix the the triangle brace at the very least. Make it at least go all all the way up here. Also, whenever this roller spins, if it gets tight, it will also pull your if this part gets tight. If this the the chain gets tight, it will pull your roller or your whole roller back. So, that won't be good either. Apart from that, pretty pretty cool. Looks like you have a vertical intake going into a clamp.
Pretty standard stuff. Um, allowing for pretty good match load, which is nice as well. I do like that. That's why I didn't tell you to, you know, connect these two together because you probably can't because of the match load uh that you need to be able to do. So, you might have to connect to it. If this is supports, it's not supports. You probably have to just uh leave that be.
But at least the very least, this triangle brace should be made higher.
Um, apart from that, make sure the speed of your roller is pretty slow. I will see a video from an actual robot later on. It spins it very very quick. So, these uh these 4-in flexes definitely have pretty pretty fast pretty fast uh sorry, what pretty fast surface speeds. So, you might even want to turn it down to a a lower like three uh inch flexible, but I give it an A tier. You already saw at least the my rating. Same with this one. Little doodad I've been working on. Not finished at all, but it's two bar lift with a pneumatic claw that can rotate. And uh it's pitch with a motor. Rotate it facing backwards to pick up intake pins and forward to pick up flat cups and match loads. You can uh make the claw face up. So, this is this is pretty nice, but it's pretty hard to keep it uh within the 24 in limit. So, it's only 30 in tall, which is still not too bad. Um, but yeah, this is very interesting. As you can see, you can intake from the front. Um, and that kind of goes up here into the middle and you can also have mattress from the back, which is very nice cuz you want definitely want to be able to do both tasks here, right? As you can see here with the sprocket on this 5.5 watt, I think it's a six or an eight uh teeth sprocket goes up down here gets geared down reduced and it's able to spin this whole mechanism, this whole clamp uh around to either load for from intake or load from natural which is really really smart. I really like that. Right. And these of course these double these uh two bars are are very light. Uh so that's also good as well. Uh immediately one of the big things that uh you need to probably do is if you've ever seen a captain uh captain from spin up their uh the world champions from spin-up their robots uh expedition from spin-up for their tangent you will know that this will probably skip if it's put under load. So um how to fix this right easiest way to do is just put a zip tie between them. But I would suggest either having poly that are cut that's cut out for this or you can use a one by one and they have bearing flats in between them because um in captain's tangent it would skip uh unless you unless you connected these two right so definitely do that definitely connect them apart from that pretty nice pretty nice stuff this part's connect this part as well uh just make it look cleaner it's kind of ugly besides that but I give it an S tier uh it's pretty pretty cool still I do like it rip your new pneumatic fix. Um, that's a lot of money lost. Uh, let's I'll skip that one, come back, and then um, yeah, so we're going to first go to the roller videos. So, uh, this one is a, um, is is a sideways roller toggle. Uh, makes me feel like snack think of snack cakes back in uh, high stakes of their sideways scoring.
But yeah, uh, it's a cool design definitely with the with the rubber stops. it's able to spin, do one spin, right? Um, but I don't think it's like that that crazy. I think you just there's many many other ways to do it.
Um, I give it an A tier. It's pretty creative, but definitely don't do this.
Uh, definitely just go with a either a passive one uh where you're driving into it and then it it does one or two ticks like the one that Gremlin did or just do an active one that you're about to see like this one right here from Cat Muncher.
Um, it's very very fast. And this is kind of like this is this is pretty good. Uh, triangle bracing here. Oh, it could be better. You could have it go higher up, but it's like I don't think it's necessary. This necessary in this case here is it's pretty well it's pretty high up, right? So, you definitely need some some some uh good triangle racing like so. Looks like you're running an X drive on a dual versus four bar some something similar to that. But yeah, very nice roller.
Once again, this place S tier. All right, let's go up now to see some of these. Day one progress by George.
Nice. This is definitely uh a lot of progress for one day. So, looks like you're following very very closely with your CAD. Not many people do that. At least uh I know of. I don't think many people did that before. Um but yeah, you have this is this is this is super tough. You have the the uh actual motors are placed are actually like mounted on poly which is super nice and the poly is mounted on a one by one here. I think it this could be this could be mismount could be better because it looks like it's like connected to the C channel back here and then the rest of it is all just like floating like kind of high above the the drive. I mean like yeah I know like there's probably not much else you can do but uh yeah a little bit little bit strange but it it it does it it works. You have a poly poly intake which is really nice. It this pretty much never breaks. It never like it bends but it like bends right back like it never snaps. You never have to worry about like the friction breaking mid game which is super nice. And you have a you even have a bear like what's this?
It's a um gosh I'm forgetting the name. It's like the ball bearings. You have ball bearings right there which is really nice as well. Overall pretty pretty nice. pretty impressed with this uh with this design here. Looks like you're going to have the the pins and the cones go under the stage here. At least that's what I think. Um and yeah, I gave it an A tier. All right, further up we have a Wow, we have is robot. We have a we have a very shiny very shiny and glowy robot from from uh with the with the um Israeli what do you call it? the the symbol. Um, nice, I guess, bro. Uh, once again, the the poly it doesn't go high enough like for the triangle support.
You definitely want it to go up up a little bit higher. If you've ever tried to bend like you can try to go you can just go and grab a piece of uh grab a piece of of one by one and just try to bend it uh by just using five like five p like five uh five holes or whatever.
It's really easy to bend even if you have five holes sticking out. like it's probably going to bend. Uh but like one or two holes sticking out, it's probably not going to bend. Um but yeah, really interesting placement of the of the roller here, or not the roller, but the chain. It goes straight into the C channel or into the one by one. Um I'm guessing it's going to be changed. I'm guessing this is literally just uh because you don't have the spacing right up here. I think it's probably going to go further in. Um but yeah, there there there's that as well. Um, however, some good things are that uh I really liked these cutouts uh that these that teams have been using for the past year or two. I think we saw 698V use them um on their intakes where you just have this one by one, not one by one, you just have this low strength shaft that's able to free flow up and down inside of these poly cutouts and that makes it really low friction and also really uh really low work and also like low maintenance too. It's all just so nice. Super genius. Um and and it's a hor horizontal intake with uh bands and these magnum wheels on the outside. Why the reason you do this is because um theoretically they're supposed to pull elements on the inwards because of the orientation the angle that they have their their rollers are at. They're supposed to pull elements inwards, but in reality they don't really work. Like it's not really like that that practical. So that's why people never use them. But anyways, I like your other triangle braces. They're nice. Um, and then you have a a very interesting double versus four bar because you are using you are using um you're using standoffs. Why why are you doing this? I don't know. Probably probably cuz uh cuz cuz you want to seem like you're a skinny legend and you're cool, but there's not really a reason to do this to be honest. I don't even think they're stronger than C channels or sorry one by ones. I think one byes are honestly stronger than stand out snouts.
You can just bend it with your hand.
Like just literally just especially ones this long because you need to the connector links and the connector links makes them so much weaker. So there's no reason like people don't ever do this for for a reason. You just use one by ones. Um yeah, on the top here looks like you have a basket. That's pretty nice. Uh and taking a look at the the other other renders, you take it in and then it sits into the basket and you lift the basket up to score from the front once again and takes in. It goes to the basket and you double reverse for bar that up to score. That's pretty nice. Um interesting on odon pod here. Uh it's like on a on the on a standoff. Um personally I wouldn't do this. It's kind of heavy. Um unless there's a leaf spring. I don't think that's a leaf spring. It's okay. Like I don't I don't I don't particularly like it. Um, there is one that you should definitely do and it's the echo leaf spring. Let's go down and find it actually. Um, and and yeah, it's down here a little bit. Just wait for it. Wait for it. It is right here. Yeah. Uh, these are incredibly smart. Ekko pioneered this back in uh back in high stakes. I know Barkbots also does it, but uh yeah, very very nice. Super smart use of your poly.
This thing never like goes off track. Uh and it's super easy to make as well. And it also uh basically like passively holds your holds your pods up if you ever go over stuff. So, this is definitely an S tier uh design, the the pods. All right. Um upwards a little bit. Continuous lift here going super high. And a lot of teams are kind of either deciding between a very high lift bot that know kind of goes slower and score slower or a low lift bot that can know score fast and just be super maneuverable and aggressive and play fast. Uh and I think I think that there's you know definitely tradeoffs there but uh the fact that your high your high high lift bot can also play uh the strategy that a low lift bot can play. If you can make that happen, then there's no reason not to build a high high lift bot at least early early season because if your low lift bot can't play a high lift bot strategy because I mean clearly just if if it can't lift that high then it's not going to be able to play the strategy and it's not going to play the game. If it ends up being the high lift like meta then your low lift bots's cooked, right? But if you have a high lift bot and the meta ends up being playing like fast like fast scoring um you know low low low stacking and just overall like big roller plays and uh and stuff like that like okay sure you might not be able to keep up with the best teams but you're still going to beble to play that strategy right so that's why I think uh it's not too bad to build a high lift bot at least early season uh as long as you can make it um as long as it can be like as long as it's like it's able to change around like um and you can be flexible then that's really good. So yeah, there's that. Um and then besides that uh nice interesting interesting bracing okay neural network to play override this is super cool. I saw this earlier as well and it's like okay I can imagine like what is it going to look like? Um can it like actually simulate real strategies? And I think it needs to be much better because uh it's interesting that because they didn't turn a single roller the whole game uh was what I saw uh happening here from Robotics Enjoyer 1965. Um yeah, red wins by by by like a major amount piece. I think blue or something got stuck on each other for a little bit, but um yeah, they didn't spend any rollers which is definitely a difference from what you would see from an actual game.
All right, please rate intake and give feedback. Okay. So, um, a lot of people have been telling me, uh, that it's pretty hard to pick up from this position, um, because you would when your intake steps onto this, uh, it would just go down. The front will go down and, the back will kick up, and you wouldn't be able to intake it, um, as easily at least. But here, um, if you have a counter roller, it might be it may be possible to intake it really, really nicely. And that's a pretty big argument for counter roller.
Definitely could be really good. Uh I haven't seen counter rollers in in quite a long time, I feel. So could be could definitely be something to to look out for is to have counter rollers for for intaking. Um if ever if intaking ever becomes a problem this season, which which I think I think it I think it might be. Um but yeah, one one small small minute thing is that like the the way you're the direction you're placing these uh these standoffs is like this way, right?
So I mean there's a small chance that like your pens would get stuck in here or like if they kick up, they can get stuck in here, but it's pretty low. Like I wouldn't really worry about it. But if you're like ever designing stuff where it's like intaking, you would want your your supports to run um like at least the supports that are like closest to the actual elements to run along the the line of intaking right along this line like vertically rather than horizontally here. Doesn't really matter that much.
Just a small thing. Uh once again, oh very nice for the very nice placement of poly too. I like I like a poly ramp. So, uh also make it frosted like you just sand it with like a low grit and then um it will uh it'll be really really smooth and and it will be kind of this frosted color that looks really clean and you're able to intake super quick. So, this is getting a tier. All right. Um dear M Mr. Nanyahu, donate to my VEX team. This is a 462. Nice. You guys have some has some real talent. Um, and also writing all this and wow you guys. Uh, I hope you get the $5,200 American. Um, good luck with that. All right. Um, Rayclaw.7 lbs. Definitely definitely pretty light. And then, um, you have this Gosh, I'm like losing my voice because this is my second time or third time recording this video. But yeah, um you have this [clears throat] piston on this poly cutout that's pretty clean that goes up and it powers this this uh leverage like gear race shield mechanism that uh that's able to spin this clamp around with the other piston on the claw. Oh my gosh, I'm just like dying right now. I just yawned. But yeah, um I mean of course it's like it's all cancer levered, so I wonder how how how how reliable it will be. But like it probably would be like not too bad since since like it's it's like as long as you're not getting hit on the clamp, then then it uh and you build it structurally like well then it should be should be good. All right, I give it an S tier. It's pretty cool. It's pretty nice. Definitely. Right drive 55 watt 450 RPM on 2.75. That's definitely a This is definitely a definitely a really good RPM to go for. However, I think your drive is a little bit short. Like the you can I feel like you can even um you can I mean Yeah. Okay. So, like I think the reason why they why they have six wheel drive on an RPM that most people have have eight is because they wanted to concentrate the motors, right? Which I I totally get here, right? why you want to have all these uh all these all these motors down here. Price nerve gravity more space for everything else, right?
So, this is this is really creative and I really like when you get creative with uh with these. Um but once again, like it's kind of short. Like if you think about this, it's like what? One, two, three, four, five. I mean 30. You know what? One, two, three, four, five, six.
Okay. No, it's not even 30. It's like it's one two three four five. It's 25.
25 is really short. Um, I remember like we had a team in my region where they had like 25 uh whole drive and they would just tip completely like always tip. So, this is really really short. I definitely extend it if possible. I'll give it a B tier. Actually, I'm not even a tier cuz I do like your your creativity with the with the motors with the stacking motors, but also if you can definitely increase the length of the drive or at least add some anti anti- tips and that'll be it. Uh, yeah. Thank you guys. And if you once again, if you like uh the hoodies, definitely go ahead, place orders on them. And yeah.
