[00:00:01][music and singing] >> If you recognize that, then you might have been around during the golden age or just have really good taste in content. I don't know, but at the very beginning when this thing that we now call the internet was moving through the world and displacing institutions that had consolidated power over thousands of years. Think like the press and the media and printing and all those sort of things.

[00:00:36]And this thing that allowed unabated free expression and exchange of ideas, limited only by the infrastructure that you had access to. I mean, we had dial-up when I was growing up, but you know what I mean. Had no guardrails, especially relative today. I mean, very few controls in place and there were very few collated avenues that you could move down for success like there are today. And around that time is when I started into internet video and and YouTube and stuff like that. And similarly, a channel by the name of Carnacon was created by a guy named Jordan Derek, aka Dugan Ashley.

[00:01:13]The N4, what an awesome platform [music] you guys. This thing is great.

[00:01:18]>> Now, to come completely clean, I didn't know Jordan's last name before starting today's video, which is never a good sign, I suppose. But you guys read the title, you saw the thumbnail, you sort of kind of know what's going on. I'll fill you in here in a second, but it's class act. And to drive this point home, I met the man years ago at an industry event that was held at a bar and he didn't reveal who he was for like the first hour and a half to anybody except for the people who knew. And it was kind of like a practical joke cuz he didn't have his wig or his glasses on, so nobody recognized him. And then of course, you know, there was a reveal and it was like, ah, got us again, you know. Again, class act, right? So, for multiple reasons, as I understand [snorts] it, Carnacon was ultimately shut down. It's now an archive channel.

[00:02:01]So, you can still access the content, but they no longer post there. And this may not be common knowledge. This may not even be true, but the word on the street at the time was that the United States military really did not appreciate what he was doing. And um there may have been some influence there that strongly encouraged him to stop doing what he was doing.

[00:02:26]At the same time, he was experiencing some health problems that ultimately ended up in his retirement from the US military. So, there's that.

[00:02:41]Fast forward to today, in the most pro-Second Amendment to Department of Justice in American history, freedom, America, Constitution, >> [snorts] >> has arrested him and charged him with multiple felonies for the crime of posting videos on the internet. I am not kidding.

[00:03:06]This is a This is here This is really important. I'm having I'm at a loss for words.

[00:03:13]Because this extends past licensing schemes and Second Amendment and all that sort of stuff into First Amendment stuff. Protected [snorts] speech. And the Department of Justice is clearly just throwing that thing right out the window. We will absolutely target you, go after you. Didn't think I was going to get to use that one again.

Now, unbenounced to me, Jordan had a second channel that he's been posting to semi-regularly and lately that deals with chemistry topics.

[00:04:36]Now, this one strikes very hot close to home for me because many of you know that my formal education is as a chemist and I worked as a chemist for multiple years out of school until I determined that um the field of chemistry had been utterly infiltrated by progressivism and should absolutely be disbanded and restarted with the original intent in mind, which is alchemy and siegecraft.

[00:05:00]Uh until we do that, uh then the the whole the whole pursuit is basically bunk.

[00:05:06]Uh so, I got out. But anyway, chemistry is a very very popular field to translate to video because most of the stuff is all written and adding a visual component is a huge deal. I mean, look at the success of people like NileRed and Periodic Videos.

[00:05:24]Um I think probably my favorite chemist out there is a guy out of Australia. His channel His two channels Extractions in Fire Or wait a minute. No, Explosions in Fire and Extractions in Ire. Um funny guy. And of course, he's an Aussie, so it just adds that extra element to it. But what I'm trying to point out is that chemistry is a very very diverse, popular space to disseminate to video because everything's written and sometimes that doesn't really do it justice, especially when we're talking about chemistry techniques because some of it is very um gate-kept. If you haven't had a formal education in that space, then there is there's stuff that you can read the procedure and just completely miss because you just weren't trained to do it. So, translating it to video is very, very popular and there's a reason that those channels have been successful like they have. The complaint charges Derek with one count of engaging in the business of manufacturing explosives materials without a license, one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device, and one count of distributing information related to manufacturing explosives in violation of US law. The complaint alleges that beginning no later than September 18th, 2023, Derek began using several social media sites to distribute videos of himself making various explosive materials and it lists all of them there. According to the complaint, Derek's videos were downloaded from his publicly available video-sharing accounts and used by this terrorist, the individual who conducted an attack in New Orleans on January 1st, 2025 and created IEDs consistent with Derek's instructional videos.

[00:07:09]So, let me break that down for you.

[00:07:11]Dude makes chemistry videos showing the reactions for producing these things.

[00:07:19]Stuff that is, to be completely honest as far as chemistry is concerned, not very difficult.

[00:07:27]As a chemist, retired chemist, not very difficult. So not difficult, in fact, and I I want to make sure I stay where I'm at.

[00:07:38]So not difficult that the United States government controls the supply of nitric acid, which is depending on the species of course, but usually part of the process to keep people from directly or indirectly getting there.

[00:07:54]Oftentimes when you watch some This is a little bit pedantic, but sometimes when you watch chemistry videos, you'll see some diluents and reactants have to be made yourself and sometimes those are the reasons why and that specific one oftentimes ends up being something that you have to do yourself if you're going to go that direction. The AK-47 not only has a prolific history, but it's also going to shoot bullets, too. Pull yourself back in, Kurt, off those tangents.

[00:08:27]What we're talking about here isn't that Mr. Ashley was out there sending plans to bad actors across the the globe. No. Dude bro was making YouTube videos and some [ __ ] bag pulled down some information that was disseminated probably from his video and multiple other videos across the internet to make a device that didn't work.

[00:08:49]There's a joke there that I'm not going to mine out.

[00:08:54]And everything that he has been arrested and charged with is demonstrably within his First Amendment right to do. The internet is equivalent to standing on the street corner with a bullhorn and saying stuff.

[00:09:10]He pulled that information out of his brain and presented it in video format.

[00:09:15]That is protected speech under the First Amendment and for the Department of Justice to go after him just because they didn't like how that information was used is anti-American and unconstitutional and everybody everybody should be pissed about this.
