Oke-Ogun Region Demands Power Rotation Ahead Of 2027 Oyo Governorship Election

[00:00:01]Let's take you to Oyo state, where stakeholders from Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, Oyo, and Ogbomoso zones of the state are demanding what they describe as an end to decades of political domination and marginalization in the state. Channels News Oladejo YeWoli reports.

[00:00:19]The meeting was convened against the backdrop of renewed conversations surrounding the 2027 governorship election and growing agitations over which zone should produce the next governor of Oyo state.

[00:00:33]Stakeholders at the summit argued that since the return of democratic rule in 1979, six out of the eight governors produced by Oyo state have emerged from Ibadan.

[00:00:45]Leaving other regions with limited opportunities to occupy the state's highest political office. In a communique read after the summit, the group advocated governorship power rotation beginning from Oke-Ogun in 2027.

[00:01:05]The stakeholders unanimously resolved that no single region should continue to monopolize governorship power and other strategic political offices in a state jointly owned by all constituent regions.
