[00:00:00]This is a famous lithograph that was originally created as a poster to be put up around the streets of Paris to advertise [music] the reopening of the Divan Japonais nightclub. It was created by the famous artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec when he was only 29 years old. In it, he shows three famous figures from the Parisian nightclub scene. Jane Avril, in black and in center, was famous for her dance the cancan. Edouard Dujardin, in the top hat, was a famous art critic. And Yvette Guilbert, a famous singer, is in the background. Her face isn't there, but she's recognizable by her long black gloves. Although this poster was done as an advertisement, it was immediately recognized as a great work of art. In fact, people went around the streets of Paris and took down the poster so that they could keep it. Today, this is one of the most reproduced images from the Belle Époque of Paris at the end of the 19th century. But this lithograph is not a reproduction. It is not a modern photographic poster. It's the real thing, and the real thing is always better.
