So Elizabeth joined Vashy to discuss the recent news that poor little Steven Gbo intends to officially resign his position. So let's enjoy this slurfilled interview from the ever intoxicated Green Goblin herself, Elizabeth May.

[00:01:04]>> Mr. Gibo says he will he will exit as an MP inform caucus tomorrow. Uh how big of a deal from where you sit is that?

[00:01:10]>> It's for me personally, it's heartbreaking. I was heartbroken when he left cabinet on November 27th. Um, as you'll recall, both of us felt betrayed by the change of something that was in black and white in the 2025 budget that there would be no fossil fuel subsidies to increase the production of oil. I mean, it was devastating on multiple levels and I feel the same way now having it confirmed that Steven Ga will uh leave parliament altogether. uh he this is a blow to I think it's a blow to the parliament itself to our ability as Canadian MPs to do our work and to and obviously >> take a big breath Elizabeth we're less than a minute into this interview >> he's been a very important part of Canadian climate policy but so is Jonathan Wilkinson who's also leaving and so is Nathaniel Erskin Smith who's also leaving I I Wonder if an environmentalist and a climate activist can feel comfortable in the Liberal caucus. I wonder as time goes by if we'll see others.

[00:02:20]>> I hate to say it, but Elizabeth brings up a good point. I'm sure there are still many climate activists within the Liberal Party that may not align with Carney's pretend idea to increase oil production. Now, do I think there will be a mass exodus from his party? No. But I do think there's a real possibility that we can go back to a minority government again. We can just keep teeter tottering between majority and minority for the next several years because that's a clear indication that Mark Carney has the confidence of his own party. And as for Steven Gibo, he's kind of the poster girl for climate activism. Maybe others will be influenced by his decision to rage quit.

[00:02:59]I mean, these climate wackos literally glue themselves to roads just because someone painted a picture. Will Green Liberals be actively betraying their climate activism if they stay within the Liberal Party?

[00:03:10]>> Have you spoken to Mr. Gibo about this?

[00:03:14]>> I did today and of course I committed to him that I wouldn't say anything. It was his own announcement to make. A few tears were shed for sure. Uh I would have obviously loved to have him join the Green Party, but I would have loved to have him stay in Parliament. uh we've been friends for decades and uh what I'm seeing happening is empirically I mean James Maloney may say that Mark Carney's climate change credentials were unimpeachable. I'm pretty much going to have to start impeaching them. Uh he I thought he was going to be a strong prime minister for climate. I bought into that. I was hopeful and I'm absolutely feeling devastated because they're pushing pipelines to beat the ban. They're pushing building up fossil fuel infrastructure, talking about taking off the the tanker ban off the north coast of British Columbia, cancelling the energy energy retrofits for homes, cancelling the tree planting program. And our climate targets that you've mentioned, they're not abstract political targets. They're about having a livable world for our kids. So, it's it's just devastating to have you to have the question on my mind is who will Mark Carney really turn out to be because he's not the person I thought he was going to be.

[00:04:35]>> Well, that's because you had your beer goggles on, sweetheart. Mark Carney doesn't give a damn about the environment. Could care less about the climate. Clearly, given his non-stop vacations around the globe. Why do you think I've been calling him Conboy Carney? I just wish it were someone else to come out and say this. You know, that Mark Carney is a liar or that he doesn't care about the environment like he claims he does. Nobody's going to take Elizabeth serious. Come on. Plus, I'm fairly certain that any statements made while under the influence would be thrown out anyway.

[00:05:05]>> I've known Mark Carney since he was governor of the Bank of Canada. When he speaks of climate risk, he's talking about risk to financial institutions, risk to the investment community. I think about his triumphant uh presence at the COP 26 in Glasgow when he was climate finance envoy for the United Nations Secretary General. But then I look back and think what was really achieved. He unveiled in Glasgow the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero that got the horrible acronym Gans and that he'd found banks all over the world willing to invest up to $128 trillion.

[00:05:43]If you look at it now, how much was invested? Not a penny. Whereas G fans, it fell apart as all the banks retreated because his CV is full of voluntary measures taken on by large banks and it's up to them to follow through. And if they don't, well then poof, there it all goes. And that's what I'm fearing. I want to hear and Canadians right now, we want a prime minister who delivers. We want and I want Mark Carney to be the leader and the prime minister that this country needs.

[00:06:14]>> No, no, NO, NO, NO. GO back to what you were saying, Elizabeth. You were dead on. Yes, Mark Carney is using the climate agenda to benefit himself. This was his plan all along. Mark Carney has foreign investments that are directly tied to spending associated with radical climate policies. Modular homes, wind turbines, carbon penalties, and the list goes on. There's no need to get all bogged down in what he should have done or what he should be doing. People need to start publicly questioning Mark Carney's conflicts of interest. But if there's no push back and never any political cost to be paid for deciding to dilute our endangered species legislation in order to help pipelines and tankers, if if Canadians are so and we are we're we're very much distracted by how the White House affects global stability and creates global instability. It's not to say that I don't have sympathies for the situation in which Mark Carney finds himself, but they absolutely could meet our climate targets and have a strong and healthy economy. In fact, there's more chance of having affordability for Canadians if we are embracing renewable energy with both hands and making sure Canadians can access the cheapest electricity on the planet, which is solar. This is a disruptive technology, right? So it feels like in the days when the horse and buggies were being disrupted by the Model T Ford, if this government was in place, we'd be providing the subsidies to the horses and buggies to try to fight an inevitable shift to a technology that's cheaper and cleaner and better for our economy.

[00:07:52]>> Yeah. And if we decide to follow your radical green agenda, we're all going to be going back to horses and buggies. But we'd always have to be picking up poor Elizabeth because she keeps falling off the wagon. Okay, that one was corny and embarrassing, but I'm going to keep it anyway.

[00:08:06]>> Obviously, you had a private conversation with with Mr. Gibo. Did you did you want him to join the Green Party? Did you think that that was at all a possibility?

[00:08:15]>> Oh, of course I did, Vashi. I mean, I'm an optimistic person. I, you know, but I wasn't trying to do it for the Green Party. I think at the moment, we really are in a planetary crisis. We're running a 50/50 chance on the latest science of having the Gulfream and the whole Atlantic ocean current circulatory system. A 50/50 chance of it collapsing by midentury.

[00:08:39]>> Okay, don't start with this again. Remember when Al Gore said that polar bears would be basically extinct by now? Yeah, that was funny.

[00:08:47]>> It's terrifying. It's a whole global climate shift with consequences and that are well, I can't discuss them in the short time we have, but they are they're catastrophic. We've shifted out of that group of progressive nations and back into the big oil club in the last 12 months. And it it's it's well, as I said, it's heartbreaking.

[00:09:13]>> What oil club? I wasn't aware of any oil club that Canada joined. Don't give Carney that much credit, Lizzy. He may not be a climate activist, but he's certainly not a big oil tycoon. I think we can all agree on two things. One, Mark Carney doesn't have as much influence over his cabinet as he might like to think, which is why he's been allegedly bribing conservative MPs to join his party.
