'Aluta Continua' (Portuguese for 'the struggle continues') is a powerful phrase coined by Eduardo Mondlane, the first president of FRELIMO (Mozambique's liberation front), in 1967 during the guerrilla war against Portuguese colonial rule; after Mondlane was assassinated in 1969, his successor Samora Machel carried the phrase forward until Mozambique gained independence in 1975, and the phrase has since become a global rallying cry for activists fighting against oppression.
