This masterpiece perfectly captures the 17th-century obsession with mechanical precision and aesthetic grandeur in a miniature form. It is a rare testament to how early modern craftsmanship seamlessly blended high-security engineering with exquisite decorative art.

A Nuremberg Masterpiece from 1610 — the Forgotten Art of Michel Man #shorts #history #collectables本站添加:
At the start of the 17th century, Mihelman moved to Nuremberg and opened a workshop there in Werd, just outside the city gates, for the production of miniature caskets. These miniature caskets are what we associate with Mihelman today. The Mihelman caskets are a further development and miniaturization of the classic Nuremberg casket. What we have here is a typical etched Nuremberg casket. These pieces have survived in quite large numbers, and they were developed around 1530 and then produced for almost 100 years in nearly unchanged form. They are very simply made from bent sheet metal with prefabricated lock elements. I'll just open it up. That's roughly what it looks like.
And Mihelman carefully adopted this methodology back then, successfully managed to miniaturize the process, and brought it into a stunningly decorated artistic form. Take a moment to gently open up the outer cover, revealing the hidden keyhole. This is Mihelman's specialty, along with the gilded surface and the finely engraved scenes. Here, specifically, we have all around depictions of Turks in fine Turkish costume. On the lid, two heroic figures from antiquity are depicted, a typical motif from the Mihelman workshop, created around 1620 in Nuremberg.
