Greeley masterfully bridges the gap between raw seismic data and tectonic theory, grounding a localized event in the profound context of geological time. It is a rare example of scientific reporting that prioritizes intellectual clarity over sensationalism.

Crete Shaken by Double Earthquake – M5.2 + M4.7
Added:Hi everyone, I'm glad you're here. Thank you very much for joining me.
Those two strong earthquakes there off the coast of Creek, Greece.
And supposedly at 12:37 they occurred within minutes of each other. The foreshock which was a magnitude 4.7 uh that one occurred at 9:31 a.m.
uh universal time.
So that might have been 12:37 local time. I'm not sure.
And then the main shock of a 5.8 uh which was revised to a magnitude 5.2 by USGS.
Um that one occurred at 9:37 universal time or 12:37. So within minutes of each other.
Um no damage has been reported. But at the Samaria Gorge um they did evacuate about 566 66 people. And it's currently closed.
It's a national park. And it's closed as they uh look for damage that might have occurred.
No reports of damage is being uh reported as of making this video.
EMSC has the earthquake listed as a magnitude 5.1. Here's the felt reports that were sent into them.
Um significant movement for 5 to 6 seconds.
Another one, uh strong, supportive, and durable.
Let's see, there's no damage. The chandelier and the table swayed a little.
I haven't been able to find any videos of that. Another one, just a wobble.
There they gave their location.
Small um shake on the floor and the couch.
Uh okay, short wavy moment or movement, excuse me. Under 1 minute.
Felt it Felt it long in their long location.
Felt it very good at the beach.
And they give their location.
Another report, I guess this is Georgia Lupolis.
I'm probably pronouncing it wrong. I'm sorry.
I'm sat on the sun loungers and noticed some unusual ground movement. This calm shaking, no real issue.
Um they give their location.
But this other one said it was big.
And another one said it was um big. Uh you could feel the vibrations on the beach.
Okay.
USGS only had five reports sent in.
And here's the locations that they they give.
Okay, one report there, intensity three.
Another one, intensity three.
And these are not accurate because there's so few reports.
Intensity three.
Intensity three. This here would be the EMSC shake map.
And we don't know. Let's see if I can bring it out a little bit. Yeah, okay.
A lot more felt reports here on EMSC.
Let me bring it up because it was felt all the way up Um yeah, over here.
And this here is their intensity map.
It's not interactive. I'm sorry.
Yeah.
So going back to Google Earth, yeah, that would probably be this location here where it was felt the strongest.
This earthquake was caused by the movement of the African plate moving north underneath the Eurasian plate.
And you can see here we got some historical earthquakes.
Um 2021, there was a 6.0.
Let's see. Um, 356 BC I suppose.
That was a magnitude 8.5 but did create a tsunami. This was along the Hellenic trench. When they figure six large earthquakes could happen about every 5,000 years. But there could be smaller segments of this area that could slip every 800 years.
So if you happen to felt this earthquake and if you did have damage, please put those comments down below especially there along the coastline.
Um, yeah, I would like to know and so would other people here who are watching this video.
Please put it in your comments down below this video. Thank you very much for watching.
Please like, share, and subscribe and I will talk to you later.
God bless you all. Bye.
