[music] >> Hundreds of San Diegans gathered at Miramar National Cemetery this morning for its 15th annual Memorial Day ceremony honoring service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year's theme was America 250 a tribute to service and sacrifice. The ceremony featured patriotic music, the playing of taps, a bagpiper, and a keynote address from retired Navy Captain military historian Steve Shepard. Memorial Day began back in 1868 to honor fallen Civil War soldiers. Congress officially designated Memorial Day a federal holiday in 1971 becoming a national day of remembrance for all US troops killed in service.
