[00:00:00]Where do you think [music] you are now and and what is it that is driving you and how do you define Well, a lot of the drive I think that I the desire to is [music] is a desire to be accepted. It's sort of a thing as an only child, you know, my parents were here in my life.

[00:00:13]They were in close-up and then they were gone. I they were great parents. [music] I loved them, but they also kind of ignored me, too, and they dropped me and I think that I was this lonely [music] kid who was like seeking approval all the time and you know, it was tough. And I grew up in a pretty tough society [music] in the '50s. It was all male.

[00:00:27]The schools were were you know, you went through a tour [music] I presume and the army and the I was in the merchant marine. And you know, I didn't have many women in [music] my life except my mother and it took a time to reintegrate into society after Vietnam for me. The [music] film business has been rough. I mean, it's it's like Vietnam in a way. I mean, it's so intense. You make a movie.

[00:00:45][music] It's a 1-year is like 2 years of your a regular life it feels like and then you go through a lot of heat making these movies cuz I tried to do honestly deal with my passion, [music] my view of contemporary times. I wanted to render it honestly on film. I tried and then you know what happened. [music]
