[00:00:00]This is the redheaded ash borer. Now, this is a species I had never seen before until it just so happened to climb into the car with me. This particular example is looking a little crusty, at least compared to what they can look like. So, I'm going to assume that it is either a juvenile or it is, much like all of us, just kind of stressed. Now, unlike the emerald ash borer, which you have might have heard of, the redheaded ash borer is actually a native species here in the United States, and it typically targets dying or like soon-to-be dying ash trees versus perfectly healthy ones. So, if you notice their patterning, they're kind of got some yellow stripes going on in addition to that kind of red coloration. That is to actually mimic a wasp and hopefully avoid being eaten because they look like a wasp.
