[00:00:00]Kia Ora everyone. Today I'm taking you on a journey through some of the most beautiful Maori Maori celebrations and fist festivals in New Zealand.

[00:00:10]Our first stop is the powhiri, traditional Maori welcoming ceremony.

[00:00:15]It's how we greet guests with respect, song and unity.

[00:00:20]One of my favorite parts [music] is the waiata.

[00:00:23]>> [singing] >> When everyone sings together, [music] you can truly feel the spirit of the community.

[00:00:30]Next is Te Matatini, one of the biggest Maori performing arts festivals. It's full of incredible kapa haka performances. Haka haka any.

[00:00:40]The haka isn't just a dance.

[00:00:44]It's a powerful way of expressing pride, unity and emotion.

[00:00:50]No Maori celebration is complete without sharing food. Nothing brings people together like a delicious hangi. Like a delicious hangi.

[00:01:00]Some communities also celebrate Matariki, the Maori New Year. It's a time to remember the past and look [music] forward to the future.

[00:01:10]Festivals aren't just for adults. The kids get to learn traditions.

[00:01:14]The kids get to learn traditions while having lots of fun.

[00:01:18]>> [laughter] >> Our festivals also celebrate amazing Maori art. Every carving and woven piece Maori art. Every carving and woven piece tells a story.

[00:01:30]What I love most >> [laughter] >> is seeing everyone celebrate together, no matter their age.

[00:01:40]Our festivals remind [music] us that culture isn't something you keep in a museum.
