Effective fish pond filtration relies on three interconnected components: plants that consume nutrients and fish waste, substrate and rocks that host beneficial bacteria which break down waste, and mechanical filter systems that provide oxygenation and additional surface area for bacterial growth, with adequate water flow being essential for all three to function properly.

THIS is The MOST important thing in your fish pondHinzugefügt:
Okay, everyone. Welcome back to the channel, King of Aquariums here. And in today's video, I'm going to be talking to you guys about the importance of filtration. Now, when it comes to successfully keeping a fish pond and keeping the fish happy and healthy, it is important to have a good amount of filtration. Now, there are many different types of filtration, but I like to break it up into three main categories. My plants, my rocks, and of course, my filter system, meaning any sort of technical filters I like to add, such as this Popo filter box that is currently running on this pond. Now, pond plants are super important because they are going to consume nutrients and all of that fish waste out of the water as well as any other chemical waste.
They will do a good job of trying to pull all of that stuff out of the water.
Now, for substrate and rocks, beneficial bacteria lives on the surface of this.
And then what will happen is that beneficial bacteria will also work to break down the fish waste. That is a very important process in providing clean healthy water for these fish. It is the main part of keeping a fish pond is going to be your substrate. Now, in terms of things you can do a whole lot about, um, that's going to be your filter options. Whether you run a waterfall kit like I have there or a filter box, whatever you choose to do, that is going to end up being very important. Now, upon filter box, it can provide lots of oxygenation like I have it set to do there. The reason being is all of the water just crashing back down onto the surface of the other water just really stirs things up and gets it going which provides oxygen for both the fish as well as the beneficial bacteria that live within the surface and within the water. So many benefits of running a filter. It also provides other surface areas within the filter box or within your waterfall box for bacteria to grow on. So like the rocks that are in there, the sponges that are in my filter box, the bio balls, all of that stuff is surface area for our beneficial bacteria to grow on. Now, back here, this pond is much larger, so it can definitely handle the wider angle on the spray of our nozzle. And what this is doing is essentially oxygenating the water perfectly for the fish. It'll simulate rainfall, which is absolutely key in the health of both the ecosystem and the fish.
Now, that filter box operates at about 660 gall per hour, which is plenty of speed to just drive all of that water past those bio balls, filter sponges, and ceramic rings that are basically acting as a home for the bacteria that is going to be filtering this water.
Now, this is a very, very important part of the process. You're going to want to make sure you definitely have ample flow with your filter.
You're going to want plenty of water being able to go past all of that beneficial filter media.
So, if you want to get one of your own today, go ahead, check the link below.
I'll have one of these linked for you, as well as the pond mat and pond liner that I use so that you can build your own fish pond. Until next time, guys. Like, subscribe, and stay fishy.
Peace.
Stay.
