Southern Idaho weather: Hot, windy Memorial Day本站添加:
Well, we have been enjoying an abnormally warm holiday weekend. And this round of summerlike heat is set to reach its peak tomorrow, Memorial Day.
That's when we'll see highs skyrocketing into the low 90s across the Treasure Valley. Then some weather whiplash sets in as we go from the 90s to barely and maybe not making it out of the 60s on Tuesday. And then we settle in cooler than average territory through the middle of the week. So that's the temperature outlook that's coming our way. But the cool down is notable enough and brings enough impactful weather that Monday evening through the whole day Tuesday, our first alert weather days because of the wind picking up on Monday along with some isolated thunderstorms.
This is Monday evening that will really elevate fire danger, especially in far southeast Oregon where wind gusts will be at their strongest late Monday in advance of a strong cold front that comes in early Tuesday. That will send temperatures tumbling. It'll keep breezy winds in the mix. And from Monday evening, every single afternoon, actually through Friday, potentially even into Saturday, we have a chance of some isolated showers and storms. Now, the rain is good news. Lightning strikes and gusty winds, not good news considering how dry we are. So, you're urged to use caution, especially tomorrow if you have campfires going, barbecues in the backyard, maybe a fire pit with that wind in the afternoon.
Just be weather aware. And I'm telling you now as well, secure any loose outdoor items tonight or tomorrow morning before that front starts making its way in later in the evening tomorrow. And then you can see as that system continues to have impacts on us, it'll dive to the south and then kind of just spin its wheels over Nevada. Keeps those precipitation chances going.
Nothing of a wash out here. I wouldn't cancel any plans this week, but something to be aware of. These showers and storms will be very spotty, very hit or miss. have to predict where they will fire off, but still looks likely every afternoon for the next several days, we'll have that active weather. So, high pressure is in control right now. Here's a system we're watching though that will start again working its way in from the west tomorrow. The front itself comes in early Tuesday. So, let's time this out.
Futurecast, I'm pausing us here. This is tomorrow afternoon. I think most of the activity earlier in the afternoon around 3 or 4 is east of Boisey. Then those storms and spot showers could roll into the Treasure Valley around dinnertime Monday. This is again the holiday, something to be ready for if you have those outdoor grilling plans tomorrow evening. Then that front starts making its way in very early Tuesday. Not a lot of moisture with the front, but I do anticipate that from tomorrow through Friday, most areas across central and southern Idaho will see some sort of measurable precipitation. The big headline though before all of that tomorrow will be the heat. So, we'll wake up to temperatures barely below 60 in places like Mountain Home and Boisey.
A very comfortable Monday morning. Then the heat is on in the afternoon, soaring into the 90s across the lower elevations. We'll be in the 60s and maybe even likely 70s up in the mountains. We see those temperatures plummet on Tuesday, our first alert weather day. And then as we settle in those low to mid70s from Wednesday through Saturday, the storm chances do persist every afternoon through the start of the weekend as well. We'll be right back.
