A precise demonstration of how modern satellite technology can instantly turn a chaotic atmospheric event into a clear, data-driven scientific narrative. It masterfully bridges the gap between public curiosity and empirical observation.

BOOM! đ„Massive Daytime Meteor Explodes Near BostonAjoutĂ© :
Hi everyone, thank you for joining me.
Well, there was another daytime meteor that caused a sonic boom today.
This is another sign from heaven. What's going on?
Uh does the government know something?
Does NASA know anything that they're not telling us?
>> [snorts] >> What the hell is [clears throat] that?
>> Whoa, within 2 days. That's really, really rare. Residents across Eastern Massachusetts and parts of New England were startled Saturday afternoon by a loud explosion-like boom that rattled windows and shook buildings. People even reported that the foundation of their homes were shaking.
A large bolide, a bright meteor, exploding in the atmosphere over or near the Boston region. The event occurred around 2:10, maybe 2:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
Multiple residents in Boston, Cambridge, Medford, Worcester, or is it pronounced Worcester?
Um and towns across Cape Cod reporting hearing a single detonation followed by rumbling. The sound was loud enough to prompt calls to police and fire departments.
>> 10-4.
>> All units, you can check the area, but they're also hearing it in Cranston, North Providence. It's seeming like it's statewide.
But 310 definitely heard it in the other high school.
>> 7104.
10-4.
>> All units, you can check the area, but they're also hearing it in Cranston, North Providence, and seeing that it's statewide.
But, 310 definitely heard it near the high school.
>> Similar reports came from Rhode Island, including Providence and even coastal New Hampshire. Here's a log of 36 reports that were sent into the American Meteor Society.
Yeah, look at all these locations. Yeah, up by Ottawa.
And it looks like as far as what? Newark, Maryland.
They evidently saw it, said it was moving from left to down right. Had a color of orange, yellow, light yellow, and red and white. A report from Hartland, Vermont. Hudson Falls, New York.
While very short in duration, it was very impressive, very bright. I'm not sure if I answered the stellar magnitude question correctly. It was very easily visible in full sunlight. The color was orange and yellow. I saw small shimmering tops of color on either side of the streak at the top.
Um uh highest altitude. Another one from New York, the color might not be exactly as described because I was wearing polarized sunglasses. Dark blue, blue, and light blue. There is no images of the fireball. Um maybe it's just too early. But, this is the area, the location of what they uh say on AMS where it traveled.
>> Also, what made this event special, it was visible to technology.
NOAA's GOES-19 satellite using its Geostationary Lightning Mapper, GLM, detected the powerful concentration flash of lights exactly matching the time of the reports because the flash didn't line up with any thunderstorm activity, meteorologists um immediately identified it as a meteor event. So, why was it so loud? Bolides are usually bright meteors that often fragment violently as they enter the Earth's atmosphere at high speeds.
When a large piece breaks apart, it creates a sonic boom that can travel dozens of miles and in this case, the shockwave reached the ground across a wide area, which explains why more than 70 miles um yeah, from that location, it was still heard.
Scientists, probably over the next couple days, will work to determine the meteor's size, speed, and possible origin using the satellite data and public reports. If fragments are found, they could provide valuable scientific insight. So, what are your thoughts? Put your comments down below. Thank you very much for watching. Please like, please share, put your experiences down below, and I'll talk to you later.
God bless you all. Bye.
