Mike Pompeo urges Canada and Europe to help the USA with Iran

[00:00:00]talking about Iran. How do you see the US disentangling from Iran? And do you think there is a role for Europe and Canada to play in that disentanglement?

[00:00:08]>> The answer to the second part is yes.

[00:00:10]They ought to be playing a much more significant role than they are because this isn't a conflict between the United States and Iran. This is this is part of a battle that has now been joined uh for the protection of Western civilization.

[00:00:23]Uh there are a half a dozen folks on the other side who want to undermine the way Canadians live. Right? the court system, basic property rights, your democracy.

[00:00:32]That's the Chinese Communist Party, Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Chairman Kim, uh the former leaders in Venezuela.

[00:00:39]There's I I might have missed one, but I didn't miss very many.

[00:00:43]>> Uh and this isn't about the United States versus them. This is about the way we live. And Canada needs to protect and Europe needs to protect the things that have mattered to us for an awfully long time. Uh your first question is how do you disentangle? And the answer is when monsters roam the earth, one doesn't disentangle, one crushes them. I know of no other solution. You have to win. You have to defeat them. And >> what should Canada be doing specifically?

[00:01:06]>> Oh, I I imagine they are doing some of it quietly. I am confident that Canadian intelligence, which is very capable. I found them to be an extraordinarily good partners when I was the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, professional, deep, true skill sets. I uh they were they were lovely partners for us. I I'm I'm confident that they're still helping in quiet ways. That's good. Um they should help first then Nesco. They should make clear that they find the Iranian regime repugnant. That the killing of hundreds of thousands of their own citizens over years and tens of thousands of their own citizens in the last months is unacceptable to Canada. And then Canada ought to be finding a way to assist the United States military in protecting at the very least uh international routeways for open navigation. So think the straight of Hormuse and then around the Babel Mandav as well. Canada has the capacity to be an important partner in that and I would urge them to think about what this means to Canadians if the Iranians and the Chinese and the Russians were to prevail in this conflict.

[00:02:08]>> Our prime minister has been working closely with China. Are there fears on your side of the border that that could represent a backdoor access to America via Canada?

[00:02:18]>> Yes.

[00:02:19]>> So, is that why Donald Trump took such a hard line against a trip that most Canadians are now looking at and saying, "Hey, our prime minister did that and you threatened us with 100% tariffs and then you go and do the exact same thing."

[00:02:30]>> Not that I It's not that I worry about it being a back door. I worry about it being a front door for the Canadian people. My observation of the Chinese Communist Party under Xiinping uh is that uh they uh when they invest in Canada, it is not a commercial enterprise, right? It is a deep play to shape and influence the minds of Canadian citizens.
