This video presents a comprehensive Q&A from a YouTube content creator who studies criminology and creates video essays to combat misinformation and disinformation online. The creator emphasizes that effective critical analysis requires understanding the difference between correlation and causation, avoiding unsubstantiated claims, and recognizing that many online arguments are poorly constructed despite appearing convincing. The creator advocates for evidence-based reasoning, proper citation practices, and developing analytical skills to evaluate online content critically, particularly in areas like crime statistics and social issues where public perception often diverges significantly from actual data.

The Jammies' Channel 10K Q&A追加:
Hello everybody. Welcome to another video. Today we're going to be doing the Q&A that I talked about in last night's post to celebrate 10,000 subscribers, which thank you guys so much for um already pushing over 1300 subscri not 1300, sorry, 13,000 subscribers, which is insane. The growth has been explosive. So, thank you guys so much.
But anyway, I can't think of a good way to transition into the subject of this video, so I'm just going to do it. Also, if I don't read your comment word for word, don't take it personally. I probably already answered it in another comment and I'm going by uh newest. All right, so let's start out.
Did you start doing videos out of a genuine fas fascination with essays or did you watch the black fatigue video one day and just got so mad you had to make a video on it? So, I've had the idea to do this like rattling my head for about two years. Um, the videos that originally made me want to do this are those god-awwful fucking like videos talking about how Gen Alpha and the public education system is cooked. Now, don't get me wrong, is there issues with public education? Absolutely fucking I live in a state where public education is fucking ass. Um, however, what pissed me off about those videos is that they made a bunch of unsubstantiated claims and then they made these wide crazy fucking like just like, "Oh, Jet Alpha is stupid."
And it's like, dude, they're like, "Hey, give them a fucking chance. Holy shit, they can't even drive yet, dude. Let's not condemn people before they can even fucking play GTA 5." And it just it pissed me off so much. And then there was one guy, oh my god, I don't even remember his name. and his policy implications were like, "So, first things first, we need to start putting more money to schools." And it's like, "No fucking shit, dude. Fucking Socrates over here talking. If we if we gave schools more money, maybe they would have more resources. No shit."
Like, oh my I'm I'm genuinely getting angry now. But yeah, no, those videos pissed me off so much. And videos like that and like the dating videos where it's like, "This is why Gen Z can't date cuz of the situationships." And it's like, yo, you're like 18, bro. You know what I was doing at 18? I was fucking working. That's what I was doing. I was out making money. Go do that instead of fucking doing these weird ass videos that are completely obsessantiated.
And then seeing the people in the comments that are like, "Yo, bro, you're speaking the truth, man. You know what you're talking about." I'm like, "No, he fucking doesn't. He doesn't know the first goddamn thing about fucking anything." So, as you can tell from my anger at those videos, that is what originally inspired me to have this idea of doing this. And um then what happened was I moved to my new place and I was waiting for classes to start and I was looking for a job. So, I was going insane cuz I was so bored and I'm like, "All right, you know what? I want to maybe I'll like experiment with video making again, you know, cuz like I tried it and I was like, "Eh, whatever." And um originally I was going to do like uh GTA online roleplay videos where like I just fuck with people. Like I have a video that's actually edited already.
>> We're like reverse.
>> Bro, >> who can give me a job here?
>> Uh you want to be the janitor?
>> I can.
>> All right, bro.
>> Yeah. Yeah, we need a janitor, man.
>> Yo yo >> that does it cuz I thought it was funny.
But then I saw bas I saw a Reddit post that was basic logic's video on Warhammer and I'm like whoa that sounds really stupid because like I'm like isn't Warhammer like a lot of progressive people play that. So I went and watched it and it was the dumbest fucking argument I've ever heard in my life. Like genuinely I I think my fucking IQ dropped 20 points watching that. I'm like okay I'm gonna finally execute my idea. But, you know, I don't know nothing about Warhammer. So, I was looking. I'm like, "Oh, black fatigue.
Is any Oh, crime statistics. Oh, we're we're getting into theories. Oh, this is this is an arena I'm familiar with." And yeah, so I downloaded OBS and I made the first video and um yeah, people liked it. Fucking overnight it got likeundred something views and people in the comments were like, "Yo, keep making more." I'm like, "All right, fuck it. I'll keep making more." And that's what I've been doing. It's just it's fun. It's fun. and I've been having a lot of fun doing it. So, I hope that answers it. It's just fun. I wanted to have fun. And, you know, as a person in STEM, you know, I'm trying to help prevent mis and disinformation, especially when there's such stupid arguments such as, "Oh, this group I don't like is genetically inferior to me. Anyway, I live off fucking unemployment and don't do anything with my life."
Not to shame the people that are on unemployment, but they need it. shame the people that are on it and they don't need it and they don't do shit with their life. Anyway, let's get to the next one. My favorite citation format, APA all the way. APA is used in criminology. I love APA. It's so simple to understand. I I I heart APA. I heart APA. Um, however, kind of the the the bizarro version of that is I fucking hate Chicago. I use Chicago for a history paper and I hate it. Everyone in history, if there's any history people in here, history majors, history fucking whatever. Your citation system is stupid and cringe. Fuck you guys. Fuck Chicago citation. Use something else. I don't care if it's more useful and it's like, yeah, okay. I like reading Chicago style cuz like I can read the footnotes. I don't give a fuck. I'm writing the paper. I don't care two shits about reading it. I'm writing it. I'm sorry. I had to get that off my chest. All right, let's go to the next one. What do I do when I got free time? Um, play video games, play guitar, and then skateboard every now and then or really long board.
And that's like all I've been doing. And then making these videos. Like this is why I made the videos cuz I was like bored. I I'm not a very like hobby. Like I I orientate around my work. Like whenever I have a job or school, that's what I orientate around. I can't like sit still and like do hobbies cuz then I feel like a bum. And also like I I need some kind of challenge to keep me engaged. So, I don't have a ton of hobbies. The ones I do, they're kind of like the basic dude hobbies. Like, you know, I mean, I I think my hobbies like you would probably see a 15-year-old have. But anyway, that's the main, you know, just playing games, playing music, and then skateboarding. It's like the most fucking 15year-old ass worldview on earth. But, uh, no, it's fun. I like it.
So, let's see. Which content creator would I do in a cage fight? And why is it Asmin Gold? I don't know a ton about Asthmin Gold. I'm going be so honest.
There's two things I've seen from Asmin Gold. The when his room was dirty as fuck and when he drank that Fiji water and he like physically repulsed from drinking Fiji water. That's the only fucking things I know about him that like he spews some like weirdass political shit. I don't even know. I guess he's right-wing, but I'm I'll be honest. I only hear people say he is.
I've never actually seen him say anything rightwing, but I haven't gone on my way to look. So, yeah, I'm not trying to assume, but that's the only stuff I know about Asmin Gold. But if I could choose someone to fight in a cage fight, another YouTuber, it would either be someone really old or really young.
So, I'd win.
Like the the what is it the Ryan toy reviews or whatever, dude? I'll fucking dropkick that kid. So, I win.
Anyway, next one.
Would I be willing to do gradings of leftist essays in the future? and then you could probably find some. Um, yes, I am actively seeking some out and I'm trying to build a bit of a log. I don't want to just be uh checkmate right-wing/ anti-woke channel. I think that's lazy. And um it's it's not that it's lazy, but like I I really don't like the people that are all like, "Well, you said that. Now it's time to debunk your argument." Like my issue, like there's there's the one blonde dude, I forget his name, and my issue with like these political pundits, especially from social media, they always like throw stats at you and then they like kind of make assumptions off those stats, which is a big problem.
Like you whenever you're trying to interpret stats, you actually need to like show it's what you think is happening is happening. Like if the the the famous example my one professor said is that whenever ice cream consumption goes up homicide rates go up. Therefore ice cream increases homicide. It's no it's not true. What you would do is you would look and there's a spurious factor which is summer. It's hotter so people eat ice cream and it's hotter so people get pissed off more. So my issue with like all the political pundits left and right and whatever else is that they know a lot of stats and facts but they don't really know why and how they kind of interact with each other. And that's my issue is like it's one thing to know stuff happened.
It's a completely different under different thing to understand what happened and why it happened. And that's my issue is a lot of them don't understand it or they don't go into the why it happened. In fact, there's a Ben Shapiro video I might do where it's kind of that he does a great job presenting statistics and like an amazing job of presenting evidence, but then when he ties his evidence to his thesis and explains why this affects why X affects Y, that's where it breaks down cuz he's just like pulling stuff out his ass and he's completely guessing. And that's like right-wing and leftwing political pundits do that. And I can't fucking stand it. So I to sum up to answer your question, yes, I will be. Do not worry.
Uh, when I grade, do I have a script or do I rag dog? Uh, both. I will watch it once or twice, take notes, and then I will just watch it and take it in one take with like audio and video, I'll take it in one take, and then as long as like there isn't anything crazy. The only editing I do where I cut stuff out is like trying to cut out gaps or like where it's a point that's really minor that I don't really need to add in. Like I'll take some stuff out. Sometimes I make like little things that I don't write down. I'm like, it doesn't really add too much to the video. So, I'll pull that out. But other than that, yeah, I'll usually just watch it and then just one take I'll go in. So, I mean, honestly, I need to do that as you've seen. Fucking I don't need to go in with multiple takes. These these fucking essays suck.
Uh, did reveal, breath reveal, did reveal. Um, one more billion subscribers for the D reveal. What's my political stance? What works? I am whatever works.
Communist, capitalist, socialist, libertarian, fucking anarchic, I don't give a shit. Whatever works to accomplish stuff and to maximize happiness while not throwing people under the bus. That's what I am. Uh I think there's a lot of things that need to change in America and the world. A lot a lot of things. I I I really don't like how people keep trying to act like that. All we need to do is pass some laws and we're going to create this perfect static world where it's like, "Oh, we pass like these three things and now everything's going to be perfect forever and ever." That's not how it works. Shit changes all the time. Our policies and everything have to be dynamic. They got to change. So, I'm pro when it comes to like criminal policy.
I'm pro- science or I'm I'm pro science like really anything. Whatever can work and is provable to be able to work.
Uh, why do I use my profile picture? I got it from one of those Instagram reels that was like those ironic try not to change your profile picture videos and I thought it was really funny. So, I made my Steam picture elephant and then when I made this YouTube account, I'm like, "All right, I'll just pull from that cuz it's already downloaded on my computer." And I think it's really funny to have like videos that I make and then that's my profile picture. I think it's it's I I love combining silly and academic. It's very fun. As you see with the the fourth and the sixth grading, I really love taking the academic and mixing it with the silly. I It's so fun. I I cannot explain how fun it is.
All right, next up. Favorite genre of music. Uh I got a pretty wide range. If I had to sum it up, anything with a guitar. I like R&B like Silk Sonic, Anderson Pack, Free Nationals. I like rock. I like Led Zeppelin. Um, I like Aerosmith. Oh, they're kind of bluesy, but they went to rock.
Um, I can't think of like any crazy bands off the top of my head, but like I enjoy rock and kind of like the 70s, like classic or hard rock, whatever you want to call it. Boston, the band. I really like Boston. And I also like like metal like Metallica, Mega Death. Um, I like listening to I've been learning a couple Mega Death songs cuz Mega Death is so fun to play. like genuinely like Mega Death songs are some of the most fun to play that and rage songs. I really like playing Rage Against Machine songs too. So basically like R&B, hard rock, and then a bit of metal is what I would say. And a bit of rap. I like some rap, but I don't really listen to much rap.
Uh, what do you think are the most personal things that should be included in essays in order to really make them interesting and entertaining? I've known about the Alpha Sigma male one since it dropped, but after watching your vid on it, really has a lot of passion put into it, even if some of the things he says are questionable. So, this really depends on your audience, your goal, and your context.
Like, for instance, if my audience is like professionals or academics, I'm not going to put in very many personal like things cuz I want it to seem unbiased and be unbiased and professional. So, I don't want to throw in personal stuff.
If it's like a memoir or something, then yeah, you'd want to put in like a lot of personal stuff. We're talking about like this is why I want this to change or this is how this affected me and this is it's bad because it affected me this way. Like the the perfect example is like cooking recipes online. They give you fucking a whole novel before you can finally actually see the recipe.
Don't need personal shit. Add it under the recipe. If I want to read that, I'll read it on my own time. Okay. But in general, I think people add way too many personal things when the essays I grade.
They add way way too many personal things. Especially when they're make you're making these giant predicaments and like policy implications for all of human society or just American society. And they're adding like and you know I don't like this because when I stubb my toe when I was eight that's unacceptable. No. So, I I hope that answers it. It really depends on your context. But when it comes to like academic stuff, I would say no. Get that fucking get it the fuck out. Let the evidence speak for itself.
Although that does writing though, like you should still write in a way that is engaging. That isn't like just be dry writing. Like write engagingly, but keep like personal stuff out of it.
What is my stance on media literacy in the current day and age as AI begins to incorporate itself? I am going to be so honest. I have no fucking clue what media literacy means. I've seen it all over the place. I see a lot of people talk about it. I don't know what it is.
It kind of just seems to me like another buzzword people are throwing around where it's like, oh, you need to be media literate, you know? So, it's like I guess I don't really have an opinion on it cuz I think the concept itself is kind of just like a little silly that people are like, "Oh, media literate."
Um, if we're talking like analyzing media, well, first off, what kind of media? You know, if we're talking fictional media, then frankly, I don't give a fuck. Well, no, I guess I do. But like people can usually judge whether something's good or bad, and then a good chunk of people can like critically think about stuff, and then even smaller amount of people can like really engage with it and understand like the deep deep themes under it. And I think it's important for some things, but I'm going to be honest. I think the vast majority of media people consume today isn't like the deepest stuff on earth. Like the themes are usually really fucking hot. Like I think about like Rick and Morty and how everyone's like, "Yo, Rick and Morty has deep themes, bro. It's about depression."
It's like, "Yeah, no shit. He talks how he wants to kill himself every two seconds." So it's like for me it's like I don't I think this the whole idea of media literacy needs to be refined more. I think it's a very abstract and vague concept that's too easy to kind of like be holier than thou with. So I guess that's my opinion on it. It's I I don't really understand it and I think it's a bit of a silly term and with AI. I don't know man. The world's going to go how it goes. Fucking I can't stop it. All right, next one.
Will you make video essays that you thought were good? I have. Uh, number five.
I think having examples that show what you're supposed to do can help a lot of people with critically looking at the essays they watch. Yeah, I'll I will do a couple more of them I think are good.
The main thing is I don't think a lot of them are good. I think a lot of them are ass. I'm going to be honest. Pat Finery is like the only guy on YouTube that makes essays that I actually enjoy watching. All the other ones I want to like fucking smash my head into the wall watching them because they're usually not well paced or they're boring or they're pretentious or they're making fucking huge claims with no evidence and it's like I I want to be like, "Yo, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about." And it's so goddamn obvious.
Patity is like the only essayist, I guess if you want to call him that, that I can actually stand watching and I enjoy watching. So that that like that that's the only So if I do do another good one, it might just be from him because genuinely he's the only one that I think is actually competent, at least from the media circles I'm in.
Uh what made me want to study criminology? Two things. One, I wanted to be a lawyer. I don't want to be a lawyer anymore, but I wanted to go to law school to either do like criminal law or civil rights law. And also when I when I went to select the majors, I thought criminology sounded really cool cuz like everyone told me like, "Oh, you know, you don't even stick to your first pick a major, you're going to change it." So I'm like, "All right, I'm just going to fucking choose whatever sounds the coolest." And criminology sounded really cool. And there was also some other like with um when George Floyd was killed and then all that stuff that kind of made me start asking questions about the nature of crime. So that also allured me to it. But yeah, I wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to learn more about crime and it just sounded really cool. And then I got lucky cuz I fucking love it. It's it's so fucking interesting and um it's I I couldn't have chosen better. I got I got super lucky.
Will I grade other essay? Well, I grade other kinds of videos such as speeches, apologies, or debates.
Probably not. Maybe apologies. Speeches.
Eh, I mean, a video essay is kind of like a speech, so I mean, like, the line there is already kind of blurred. Uh, debates. No, I I can't stand debates.
I'm going to be so honest. Especially, oh my god, the Jubilee videos. Don't even get me fucking started on the I Okay, this is my conspiracy theory. I think Jubilee is actively trying to make everyone fucking stupider because like like who watches a Jubilee video and like is more open-minded after it? It's just people screaming at each other and they're close-minded. Like I saw clips from the one where Dr. Mike went on and it's like no one changed their mind. I doubt the audience changed its mind. I mean fucking the people in the video only button down and double down on their views. So the So I don't think anyone in the fucking audience changed their mind. I genuinely think Jubile's videos serve fucking no purpose at all and do not benefit um public discourse whatsoever. I'm just going to be dead honest. I really don't think they do. I I'm not like the biggest fan of debates anyway.
Like, well, it depends on what context.
Debates between people that know what they're talking about. Yes. Like, or even like politicians, like, you know, it's important for a politician to be able to debate an opponent and be able to like back up their saying. The issue is that usually they're really like emotionally charged and shit, but like in terms of like debates on YouTube and shit, fuck no, dude.
Holy shit. No. And they're always so pretentious. You'll have like a conservative right-wing person. It's like, I'm going to own this liberal, dude. Get in here and try and tell me this shit. And then you go to like a leftwing one, it's like, yo, all these stupid fucking hickass conservatives, bro, call me up, bitch. I'll be. And it's like, it's the lamest shit on earth. I'm going to be so honest. It's the lamest fucking shit on earth. So, no, I will not do debates. Kind of already do speeches. And I probably will do an apology video or two.
All right, next up. Uh, what made me want to make it in? Oh, the profile picture again. Instagram reel. It was funny. Let's see. What's my favorite essay I've graded so far? Completely removing bias related to the final grade. Literally, just your personal guilty pre pleasure. Whether it's because it's so bad or maybe it's actually peak in terms of enjoying it and thinking it's actually good. Um, Paty, any of his shit. I love it. I'm actually I liked Anthony Spade's essay. I thought his argument was really well put. It was a lot more complex than I thought it was.
I thought it was just going to be like 20 minutes of him ranting about how women are evil, but it was a lot his argument was a lot more complex than I thought. It was very well articulated.
Like if you take the intro out and like the red pill stuff out, like you could generally write that down, it would it would be a passable like paper. Like well, he would need more evidence. I will say that he needs to actually source shit and then it would be a passable paper. But um I thought like I think in terms of like structure Anthony Spades is probably the best so far even even better than Pat Finities. But that's only because he didn't have a conclusion. If Paty had a conclusion he blows Anthony Spade out of the water.
But in terms of like being properly structured Anthony Spade is probably the best one so far. And I did I really enjoyed that. Especially seeing a video that I had a very negative view of before ever watching. I still have a negative view of it, but seeing that it's more complex. It's not just we men in sad, no pussy, therefore women bad. It's it's more deep than that. And like again, like I said in the video, there's a reason people fall for the manosphere stuff because there is truth in the core of their argument where mindset matters a lot and who you interact with. And but the issue is that that good message about trying to focus on yourself, focus on what is important is interrupted by misogyny and everyone hates you and like don't even like treat women like humans. They're like they're just like competition or whatever, which I think it to all the fellas in the audience, if you want to get a girlfriend, stop thinking of them as another fucking species. Think of them as a human already. You're going to be a better boyfriend than most fucking people. Anyway, but no, I I liked Anthony Spades. I I thought it was good.
The other ones ass.
All the other ones have been pretty fucking ass. The hardest one to get through is Tom Lotton. Holy shit. By the end of the editing, I had a fucking headache and I wanted to jump off a bridge cuz oh my god, that was so bad. I fucking hated editing that.
All right, next up. Opinion on waffles.
I like them. Uh, for like two semesters straight, I would have two waffles with peanut butter in the middle, like a peanut butter waffle sandwich, and that would be my breakfast for like 6 months straight. I like waffles.
All right, next. Will I ever form a little community like start up a Discord or something?
Maybe. I don't use Discord, but the biggest thing is that I don't want to accidentally create an echo chamber.
That's my biggest fear with this channel is that and like I'm not trying to like speak down to anyone, but my biggest fear is that like I'll say stuff and then the audience just kind of takes it, but they don't really understand why I'm saying it. And I really don't want to create an echo chamber. That's my biggest fear with this channel is creating an echo chamber that's like especially with like, you know, like I I rag on the alt-right people a lot and they fucking deserve it, don't get me wrong, but I don't want to create an echo chamber where it's like, "Yeah, fuck the alt-right, bro." and then we don't think critically about anything. That's my biggest fear with starting community is that like I would accidentally make a echo chamber and like some drama would start or like people would start spreading misinformation and I would like I like I saw under the basic logic video a lot of people were talking like well who can blame when black communities commit more crime?
They're poor. Poor people commit crime.
That's not true actually. The vast majority of poor people do not commit crime. poverty is a risk factor, but believe it or not, poverty isn't really one of the bigger um drivers of crime.
So, that's the thing is like I'm I'm I'm just scared of making an echo chamber.
So, if I can figure a way out with like maybe safeguards, then yeah, I probably will. All right, next up. What is the best video essay you've ever watched?
Again, anything from Pat Finity. He's fucking hilarious, dude. I will glaze him all day, every day, 24/7, 365. He is I I fucking love Pat Finity. He is so fucking funny. I hope he comes across my channel, bro. I really do.
Um, what inspired me to make these videos? Again, I see a lot of bullshit arguments online. I'm like, yo, these are like fucking houses of cards. And I'm like, you know what? Fuck it. It's time for me to fucking slam my meat on the table. And also to stop spread uh misinformation, disinformation, especially with crime. Crime is the public perception of crime is super inaccurate. I I might even make a whole fucking video on it. It's so inaccurate.
So, also to help prevent mis and disinformation for topics that relate to my field of study.
What is my favorite video I've made?
That's a good question.
Probably the funniest one was the Achilles Argyle one. That one was so fun to make. Oh my god, I had so much fun making that.
Like, his arguments are terrible. His argumentation is atrocious. His evidence is His EV Oh my god, his evidence was so fucking bad. That the fucking Chinese example was insane cuz I like I watched it. I'm literally like, "Dude, hasn't China had like a trillion fucking civil wars?" Like, oh, the Achilles Argo one was so fun to make. And like I know a lot of people think it's satire. I don't. I don't. I think he's being dead ass, bro. There's some fucking freaks out there. And that only made it even more fun to make. Uh, the Anthony Spade one was fun to make in retrospect.
Making it I was kind of like I I didn't feel like I did a really good job making it to be honest, but in retrospect I think I did a pretty solid job and I liked it. Um, other favorite ones?
I mean, I love all my videos equally except the Tom Lot one. Bro, that one was fucking hell. But anyway, and thank you for loving my videos. I love that you love my videos.
If I can only play one video game forever, what would it be? That's a really good fucking question cuz I hopped between video games like crazy.
Like I started an Elden Ring run like a month or two ago and I got probably like 80 hours in it and I just got bored and fucking dropped it. Um, Vintage Story. I love Vintage Story.
Vintage Story is a lot of fun. I I I could see myself because like there's creative mode and like you can build and then if they keep updating it I could see myself. If not V story then probably Minecraft but only if I get access to servers. If I can't have access to servers with Minecraft V story let's see what is my favorite piece of literature. That is a good question.
Uh Frankenstein is probably my favorite fictional book. I love that. I love Frankenstein.
Um, I took two courses, one on Greek literature and one on Roman literature.
The Iliad, I fucking loved it, dude. I can see why people love the Iliad. The Iliad is so good. I love the Iliad, too.
Um, and the Anid. I also love the Anid.
I like the Odyssey, too, but I like the Anid and the Iliad more.
Um, Frankenstein. Yeah.
Uh, we're talking literature. I don't really do a lot of fun reading anymore.
I'm gonna be honest. Most of my reading is for school, which not saying that I don't enjoy it, but like I don't really read a ton of fictional stuff or like really any like literature, I guess, besides the classes where we go over literature.
So, yeah, I would probably go with Frankenstein closely followed by like the Iliad.
Uh, what do I think makes an interesting YouTube video? What music do I listen to? Well, I already answered the second one, but um personality. I think the the YouTube videos allow you to have a lot of your personality. So, if someone is like engaging personalitywise, that's what makes it interesting cuz there's a million things you could probably do to make a video slightly more interesting.
And I think those add up like just zoomins or like quick cuts or adding little JPEGs here and there, little jokes or little skits here. So, I think the biggest thing is like putting your personality into a video. I think that's probably it.
Let's see. What other creators would I recommend if you want to find more content that likes that is like mine?
Samanella like he doesn't really critique things.
He's more educational.
Um, extra history. I That's the thing. I don't really know anyone that does content my style that isn't just like a reaction channel cuz like I like dissecting it and like actually rigorously evaluating it, not just reacting or debunking. I don't really know anyone that does it in the same style as me.
So, I would probably just say Salmonella. Like I feel like I give off a similar vibe to Salmonella, you know? I hope I do. He's funny. I love him.
And um other than that, I really don't know to be honest. I I don't as I've been making these videos, I people have been saying how unique this idea is. I have come to realize that. So unfortunat I'm sorry I don't have a lot of suggestions. I would just say Extra History is really fun to watch. Salmonell is really fun to watch.
Uh Crash Course is a lot of fun to watch. Oh, Hank Green. Hank Green, he kind of does the same thing I do.
Although he's debunking, but it's still similar. like his his video on that one climate change denial video or climate change video that was trying to like play it down. That was a really good video. So, uh JJ McCullen, too. He's also really cool. He doesn't really cover shit I cover, but he just kind of comes in at this analytical approach, too.
All right, next up. Am I in university or school? I'm in university for criminology. Next. What gave you the confidence to start posting videos? Do you have the same confidence in real life as in your videos? Um, not really confidence, more of a I guess responsibility. I kind of feel responsible for having to help combat misinformation cuz a big issue in criminology is communicating like where the science is and where every like the public's opinion is. It's like fucking one's on Mars and one's on Jupiter. It's insane. So that is partially it, you know, helps science communicate. Like I really like Mini Minute Man. He's a science communicator.
I respect him. Um, and he does it for archology. Archaeology. Oh my god. Not archaeology. Archaeology. And I thought, oh well, you know, maybe if I ever do stuff then, you know, I should try it out. So I try and incorporate some of that into my videos as it pertains to stuff I'm familiar with. I try not to speak outside of what I'm familiar with.
So that's also why I kind of cover certain videos that go over certain topics because I'm familiar with those topics, but that's what kind of gives me the confidence. I feel like it's a public good almost, not to stroke my own ego. Uh, do I have the same confidence in real life? Not really. I'm pretty polite. I don't like confronting people, but I think I stand my ground. I It's It's I feel like that would translate weird from YouTube to the real world. But I hope that answers it. Chatter hamster.
That's a fucking good name. All right, next up. Do I actually grade essays in real life? Am I college professor or I'm still studying? I'm still studying. I do not grade in real life. Actually, I I'm not a TA or anything. I don't do any actual gradings, but I Well, I've done a good amount of peer reviews, so that's kind of where like I've gotten a more analytical eye and also like self reviews.
So that's where I kind of get it, but I'm not like a an actual teacher or a TA or anything like that. No. So next.
What is the worst video essay you've ever had the displeasure of seeing? Tor Lton's fucking video. Dude, that was horrendous. Cuz the racist people and shit. Is it stupid? Yes. Are they brand dead? Yes. Are they, you know, if there is a fucking afterlife, are they going to burn in hell? Yes. That's my opinion.
That's my opinion. Let me say that.
That's my opinion. Um, but there's been racist indoctrination for the last six or 700 years, right?
So, I can see how people get caught up into that. With Tor Lton, he is a disgusting person. That is all just if if the stuff is true, which in my opinion it is. It It seems pretty strong that it is, that's just completely him.
That's him as a person. And to me, that's disgusting. Like he's so bad at talking and argumenting, too. It's not even like he's got an accent. I don't give a fuck about I try not to get on people for accents or anything, but like his word choice is so fucking bad. He can't he's like he's like that guy like that friend that has ADHD, but instead of being like, "All right, yeah." You know, they like kind of make it like their quirky little trait where it's like, "Oh, it's time to you know, no shit on anyone that's got ADHD. My mom's got ADHD, but like the people that kind of make it their trait where it's like, "Ah, now I'm do this.
Now I'm do this. Now I knew what am I going to do next? I'm going to do a back flipper from like he like that's what I get from him and he's so fucking annoying. Torlon was the worst I've ever seen so far.
So far. So far I will not hold myself to it is the worst.
Uh will I ever grade my future grades?
Because honestly Sigman Nation not getting 100 is a robbery. Maybe I might go back I'm probably going to redo the basic logic one just for mic quality alone. I'll probably redo, but I I might redo them, but I probably won't grade them. And I'm sorry, Sigas, but you know, he he did he had a really strong structure. Sigma Nation knows how to build an argument. They just fill it with poop. All right, next. Where's my education? What got me? Again, I'm uh studying for a bachelor's in criminology and help prevent misinformation.
Mars_o_o_o says, "If morals are a untested are if morals are a set of untested hypotheticals, how can we truly know that someone is good or bad?" Well, I would say morals aren't hypotheticals.
Morals are kind of give weight to certain behavior and it proscribes and prescribes certain behaviors. So it isn't that they're the morals are hypotheticals in of themselves, but the hypotheticals pull off your morals into what behavior you're going to exhibit in that hypothetical. So if we want to judge if someone's good or bad, we would have to look at is in their behavior in certain situations where they would have to display or they would have to not display certain types of morals. So like in a burning building, did they push push grandma over so that they could get out first?
That I think we can say is bad because they probably are very selfish and that's a moral that is not well valued.
Or did they come running out with fucking babies on their shoulders, like shirt ripped open, six-pack showing, then we can probably say he's a good person cuz it seems that he puts others above himself cuz his behavior in the situation reflects that. So that's what I would say. I'm also not an ethicist or philosopher so I probably butcher that argument but um that's my opinion on it.
Next. If you had to make a really in-depth video essay on one topic, what would it be? Honestly, if I ever made a video essay, it would probably be on like music.
Like the the only video essay I have in mind, there's a couple things I would like to cover. Uh the story of Frost Punk one and two cuz I think that is generally one of the best stories in video games. Music and then the Iliad and then just shit I think is cool. So, I mean, if I had to make an essay, it would probably be about music because it's something I'm familiar with and it's something that I think you can make to a high quality through video format, but like I'm I'm never going to like make anything serious with a video essay. I I do not think they're a great medium for certain higher operating topics. Next favorite video essay is Pat Fernity, bro. He's so good. Next. Would you review debates? No. See what I said before?
Next. How candid are my videos and how do I prep for them? As I said, I usually just watch them a couple times. Um, candid. No, this is pretty much me. I don't really put on like a crazy personality. I think I I'm okay. I crash out more. I don't really play up the crash outs, but I'm more open to crashing out, if that makes sense. I don't know. I don't think that does.
But, um, it's like I let my more like primal like, yo, what the fuck? you're a fucking idiot out than I would usually do. I think like like if I was doing an actual peer review of someone that like I knew, I would not be like this at all.
I wouldn't be like that. I would be much more pleasant, much more polite. But I'm ragging on people that are a lot of them are very unrespectable in my opinion. And it's a video. It's YouTube. So I like I kind of I I uh you know I button take a couple buttons out or off of the shirt. you know, unbutton my shirt a little and uh let it come out a little bit more. So, it's it is candid.
How did I choose my PFP? I already answered. Do I have an essay? Pat Finerity. Uh do you have an essayist you recommend?
Oh, reading. Sorry. Um no, I don't really know any essayist that I read besides like enlightenment philosophers, but even then those are like treaties which I guess are essays. I like the like um John Lock um Rouso St. Thomas Aquinus he is a really tough read but he is really fucking smart and he is like St. Thomas Aquinus is like he if you can like get through how he writes he writes super advanced like it gives me headaches writing it but like the shit he says is so fucking amazing. St. Thomas Aquinus. I love um Plato.
Yeah, if you want to consider those essay, I'm kind of being very broad with what I consider essay. Plato. Aristotle is fucking boring to read. He's got some cool ideas, but he's fucking boring read. I'm I'm just going to be honest.
Uh who else? I think that's really it.
Mostly just philosophers. I'm going to be honest. That's the only like essayist I like reading. Well, not the only ones I like reading, but the people I know who like make essays that are good.
Uh, do I have or interesting research papers I've read recently. Um, like I said, I think either in a yeah, in a comment um there's this one paper, I forget the name. I'll see if I can um find it. And it was um from this like uh I guess he was like ex um intelligence.
I don't know if it was CIA or something, but he wrote an essay about uh South Africa's use of state sponsored terrorism during late apartheid and like their counterinsurgency operations and how they would like stage terrorist attacks to try and um make the desegregation movement look worse and to try and stop leaders that were trying to end apartheid. That was a really good read. I would recommend that. I'm going to try and find it and I'll link it below.
Uh, winter or summer. No in between.
I grew up when I was a kid, I was up north, but now as an adult, I live in the south.
And I think I'm going to have to go with summer.
Like, winter is cool. Winter's beautiful, don't get me wrong, but like I don't know. Summer is like, I like summer. Summer is kind of like, you know, let loose, let wild, cut the rope.
Winter is winter's fun, but like getting into a car and having to wait for it to warm up in winter, I hate that. I hate that. Why am I funny? I don't know.
Look, genuinely, I I honestly don't know. I didn't think I was this entertaining.
I'll be honest. I I did not think I was ever this entertaining. But anyway, moving forward. Tips for writing an essay. Um, write a good thesis.
Make sure what you're writing about is a topic you are interested enough so that you aren't going to be like grading against sandpaper to finish it. Make sure the topic has enough depth. Um, use good pieces of evidence. Cite them properly. And by good evidence, I mean like actual evidence, not my fucking grandma told me, but like, you know, from studies we can see, we can do this.
Um, policy implications are important in certain types of papers.
That's the biggest thing is topic and thesis. Choose something you like and is interesting and has enough enough depth.
Do research and then form a thesis and make sure that thesis is strong. Now I will say as you write a paper like for me when I make a thesis and I start writing sometimes I change the scope of the thesis like a lot of times I'll actually like change like lower the scope of a thesis because like I'll be running on for like six, seven, eight pages and like okay I got to cut stuff out. So, I would just say topic and thesis are probably the two biggest things and then using good evidence and being able to articulate your points clearly is what I'll say next.
Uh, what do you think is the greatest contributor to people being so confidently wrong on the internet is?
Ignorance.
That's the thing. I feel like with the digital age, it's kind of people are like, "Oh man, everyone is so ignorant.
It's been this way for fucking thousands of years. It's just the internet is making it easier for people to be ignorant. But I mean, it's ignorance.
And it's like the big thing is like you, me, and everyone else, like I just wrote someone an email about this. We don't know shit.
I don't know jack shit. I know stuff about certain topics. You guys know stuff about certain topics, but for the vast majority of knowledge, we don't know a fucking thing. We make assumptions. And assumptions are necessary, but we need to remember they those are assumptions, not facts.
They're assumptions. And that's the biggest thing is like since assumptions are necessary for survival, we make them very fast and we stick to them. And especially in a democratic society, I like me like I and this is my opinion again, but I feel like there's kind of this push where it's like you must have opinion on everything cuz you live in a democracy. And if you don't have an opinion on everything, then how can you call yourself a competent member of a democracy? And I think that's stupid. I think people need to be willing to know that they don't know everything. And I I hope people start understand. But yeah, ignorance and knowing that you don't know or not knowing that you don't know shit is really the biggest things that contribute to people being confidently wrong.
And you also have bad actors, too, like grifters and whatnot. All right. Next.
Do I have a career or academic goals related to what you do on YouTube or is it a hobby? If so, are there other hobbies you have or other activities that give you enjoyment? That's a couple of questions. Um, so first, uh, relates to YouTube, at most this was going to be a part-time job.
I'm pretty dead set on my goals academically and professionally. I like doing this. I'm happy that I can like communicate and people are learning from it. But I find this as a part of like a smaller part of my goals if that makes sense. Like you know like I'm pretty dead set on what I want to do professionally.
Um so if I keep this YouTube channel going it's just going to be part-time and it's probably just going to be like simpler.
Like it's not it's never going to be like something crazy like I I cannot be a YouTuber.
That's what I'm saying. I can never be a YouTuber. So this is always going to be like something on the side if I continue doing it for long term.
So yeah, it's mostly a hobby. And so again, as someone in STEM, it's I I also feel a duty to help combat misinformation and disinformation. So it is also kind of almost a responsibility I feel as um a young man in STEM. Uh other hobbies I have like I said playing guitar, playing video games, skateboarding.
Uh I don't like swimming. I don't which is weird. I was a lifeguard forever and I fucking hate swimming.
Sometimes I like like writing like creative writing but I don't do it very often.
Um performing. Oh my god. I used to be in a band. I started a band like a year ago, but I had to drop out cuz school work. I love performing like on stage with a band. It's so fun. It's so fucking fun. That's one of the most rewarding things is like playing for other people. That's like the band I was in before I left. We play this like um not a big gig, but you know, it was probably a couple hundred people from our university. And that was like one of the most fun things I've ever done. And it was so fun. It was fucking freezing. And I don't regret ever doing it. I would do it a million times over.
All right. Next. Any particular criteria on essays you choose to discuss? If so, are they? If not, would you be open to requests? So, I do see all the requests.
I do take all the requests. The thing with criteria is so length is a big one.
After the Toronto video, I learned two things. One, I hate editing for a long time, for long videos. Two, videos over 40 minutes aren't as popular. I know a lot of people do enjoy the long-term stuff, but 40 minutes seems to kind of be the golden zone where it's long enough where people engage with it, but it's not too long where people are like, "Okay, this is just too much." And like I lose people. So, I usually try and find videos that are between 10 to 20 minutes, closer to 10 if possible.
Um, I also try and pick topics that I'm at least somewhat familiar with, so that I can still have that educational value to it. So, if it talks about crime or um, social structures or stuff like that or like making these broad kind of sociological generalizations, I try and pick stuff like that since that's fields I'm familiar with. Criminology is the one I'm most familiar with. So, it has something to do with crime. I'll usually do it. That's why I chose the black fatigue video. So, I try and choose things that I'm familiar with, too. Um, I also try and find things that have educational value or they're so bad that ripping them apart would give educational value. like basic logic's video. That argument is so ass. Ripping it to shreds is educational b educationally beneficial because it shows that this is a terrible argument that is designed to look like a good argument. And also that basic logic doesn't know fucking shit. He is a fucking level 10 dumbass. I will say that with a full chest. He's stupid. I'm going be honest. I don't fucking know if any of his fans or he's watching. If they are, he's a dumbass. But um and I'm never gonna take that back, bro.
You're fucking stupid. But um yeah, I try and find things that I'm familiar with and topics that I see people ag like agree with or videos people agree with very easily.
When I see something that is not very good and I look in the comments and I just see people going, "Wow, this is the best thing ever." That is a prime fucking target for me because I love shredding that shit to bits because nine out of 10en time, fucking 99 out of a hundred times, they don't know what the fuck they're talking about. So, oh, I just noticed my search bar was open. All right, next up. How do I find essays to grade and how do I decide to grade them?
Uh, it depends. Sometimes I go out looking for stuff. Sometimes I will see a like remnant trip 7. I saw him as a creator and I'm like, okay. And then I was like going through his like kind of videography. I don't know if you would call it that, but you like kind of like discography, but for videos, I guess videography, I'm going to call it that.
Um, I'm like, okay, let me find something that like looks good. And then I saw the one about like Western society and stuff. And yeah, I want to say this cuz I guarantee him, his fans, and people like him are going to be like, "Oh, look at that guy. He hates Western society." I like Western society. I really like the Enlightenment. I really like ancient literature. I like Enlightenment literature. I like American literature.
I love Frankenstein. That's my favorite fucking book. I I love Western society.
Is it perfect? Fuck no. No society is.
Has it done some bad shit? Abso fuckingutely. So that's why I went to Remnants cuz I'm like, "All right, well, here's this guy that probably doesn't know jack shit about the West. He probably doesn't even know what the first piece of Western literature is.
Um, he probably doesn't even fucking know that Socrates didn't write anything down. It's Plato that wrote it all down.
He probably doesn't even understand that we don't actually have any Aristotle's writings, only his lecture notes. He probably doesn't understand the Enlightenment was a revival of ancient tradition. It wasn't this new infusion of Christianity. It was pulling the classics and the humanities back from the classical age back into Europe because the Muslim world, you know, the Eastern world held on to like Aristotle and Plato's and all their writing. And eventually once Europe started kind of exiting the dark ages and you know once they started trading more with the Muslim world and I'm not a historian so I'm generalizing a lot keep in mind but like they start importing stuff from the Roman Empire and stuff back in from the Muslim world probably doesn't know that.
Um so that's the thing. So, I try and choose topics that I am both somewhat comp confident in and that I see people eat up and gobble up and don't have a second fucking thought or if they're silly, like the Achilles one. That's fucking silly. I love covering silly things. Or if they have really good educational value. That was really long-winded. I'm sorry. I hope that answers it.
Would I ever do a video on Anthony Fantano? Probably not. Music is pretty subjective.
I haven't also seen any of his stuff, so I don't really know if he's good or bad in terms of making stuff, but probably not. Uh, next. Can you please do reaction to an apology video? Maybe. I was thinking about doing the Miranda Sings video and grading that, but it is hard to get through and like it's so she's so bad at argumenting like arguing. I would probably be pausing every two seconds and I just don't think it would be enjoyable. as funny as that would be. I don't know. Maybe I'll do like a more ad hoc kind of thing, but I I I do want to cover some apology videos because they're ass.
Uh, do I plan on making higher quality videos in the future with more editing andor scripts? And who are your top YouTubers to enjoy? Uh, in terms of editing, probably not. I don't want to bring in any outside talent. I want, you know, I have gotten monetized, so thank you guys for that. I'm keeping all that money.
Okay. Seriously though, you know, I I think the editing style is very me. So, I don't want to like I I I don't want to like join the crowd with like these zoomins and these cuts and these edits.
I just like being honest, very natural.
It's like, "All right, one take. This is my thoughts. Agree, disagree. Hey, that's chill." So, you know, I don't really want to put too much pre-production and post-production into them, if that makes sense. I like it just kind of being me and speaking and with like just some like jokes and stuff in it cuz that's how I think it's it's fun. I think it's fun that way. It's from what I've seen a lot of people enjoy it and it seems to be a breath of fresh air for a lot of people too. Who are my top YouTubers to enjoy? Um Pat Ferity. Love him. Bub Games. He's fucking funny. I I think he's funny as shit. I love him, bro. He's funny. I love his comedic style. Um, Astral Spiff. I like Astral Spiff.
He's funny. Uh, who else do I watch a lot of?
I don't know. I usually hop between channels a lot. I don't really like I've been watching some of Danny Gonzalez's videos again. I like Danny Gonzalez.
He's funny. Uh, who else?
H not really too sure. I mean that's five.
Five or so. So all right. Next. Will I rank breadtuber video essays? Something like Charles New Roman Empire. Uh I will look into that. Don't know yet. So I hope that answers it. I I've seen the bread tuber guys name a couple of times.
So I'm I'm looking into him. All right.
How's the remittant 7 beef going? Bro, I'm still waiting for that fucking live stream. It's been like almost two weeks now and nothing. Like I've I've been checking his page like once a day.
Nothing. So I guess I'm winning.
All right. Uh, next question. What do I do for work? Uh, so right now I kind of like work a job that where I just do like odd jobs and I bounce between stuff. Uh, what I've mostly done for work and through high school and a bit of college, I was a lifeguard. for like five or six years. Then after that, I worked for this um summer camp for a uh nonprofit that was chartered by the state that I was working in. And um that was working with it was a free summer camp for anyone, but it it targeted at risk kids. So, a lot of them had like anger issues or they were like physically abused or sexually abused or um ADHD or they were neglected or there's like parent isn't involved in a picture. A lot of people missing a parent for various reasons. And that was some of the most rewarding work I've ever done in my life, if not the most rewarding work I've ever done in my life. It was the most stressful, frustrating job I ever had. And I loved every second of it. and like actually being able to go home and think like I had a positive impact on these people.
Like there's uh this one kid who I I don't want to violate my NDA, but let's just say like the parents weren't in the picture anymore and he was really young and my boss told me and he's like, "Yo, you're probably the only positive male impact that kid has ever had in his life."
And it was insane because, you know, the kid was really young and like it was different. like he had he he clearly like was upset because of the familial situations and that that was like one of the big things where I'm like this is what I want to do with my life is like help people help atrisisk populations and that's what I want to do more professionally is help atrisisk populations through community and through like partnerships with law enforcement and stuff like that and then possibly doing research and working for a lab or something that's what I want to do. So, uh, favorite ice cream flavor, cookies and cream.
Next, would I press the red button or the blue button? Well, red's usually associated with like nuclear bomb, so I probably go blue. Next, what do I think makes a good essay?
Well, clear communication.
If you are all over the place or you can't communicate your ideas well, it doesn't matter how great your argument is, no one's going to like it. And tone.
Tone is extremely important. All right, next question. Where do I see myself or this channel in 5 to 10 years? Um, if this channel is still alive in 5 to 10 years, it's going to be something I'm doing on the side. So again, akin to like Salmonella, maybe not like going years without videos, but something I do on the side to kind of like help, you know, maybe I guess kind of like a public good, if you will. I don't know.
Oh, that sounds so like Oh, I'm doing a public good. Yeah, it sounds so. But yeah, like you know, so this will going to be something on the side, you know, if it's still around by then. I might do my YouTube retirement by then.
My favorite video games, Stellaris, Frost Punk 1 and two, Vintage Story.
Um, City Skylines 1 and two. Although, if the second one fucking ran better, then it would probably be I I would like it a lot more than one. I like it slightly better than one. Uh, Doom Eternal, Titanfall 2. Oh my god, dude. We're never getting fucking rip.
um the director for Titanfall 2 and we're never getting fucking Titanfall 3.
Um was it Vince Sampella? Is it? No, I don't think that's Maybe it is. But um that's all I can remember off the top of my head. Yeah. No, I love those games.
Also, I played a fucking Halo Reach as a kid, too. All right. What's my favorite soda? Coke. They got me. I lowkey I might be addicted to Coke. I try not to drink too much soda, but whenever I do, it's always Coke.
All right, next question. Cool. Cool.
Next question. In my videos, you mentioned that you write. I like to read the writing. Where can I find it? I like to learn how to structure my own words.
I am probably never ever ever going to put my writing on here because I do not want Okay, so there's a couple things. I don't want people to plagiarize it.
That's a big thing. I think if I put it on here, it's going to it would be too easy for people to plagiarize it for AI to grab it and plagiarize it through like chat GBT or something. Secondly, I don't really feel comfortable publishing undergrad work. I don't think it's up to the standard where it's publishable.
Um, at least not since like I haven't had like a an actual professional help and like edit it. So, I don't think it's to the degree where I would want it published. Also, you know, just like privately, I don't really want to publish it. I want to keep that, you know, in my school. I don't want it to be published.
Um, so yeah, I'll be honest. probably never going to show my own writing on here, which I know is like a little hypocchonical, but maybe I will. We'll see. Maybe I I'll do it, but I'll like edit out all the personal information and maybe I'll think about it. Actually, you know, I I'll think about it. I'll actually think about it. Um, and I'll if I do upload it, it'll probably just I'll upload to a Google doc and I'll like link it somewhere in the description of the channel.
Uh, how to structure your own essays. Uh Purdue Purdue has a really nice writing lab. Purdue is really good, but also it is a skill you must practice. It is not a skill you can easily learn. Writing is something you have to practice. It took me like about 3 years of writing to get to a point where I finally feel confident enough that I like stand behind my papers.
Writing is not an easy skill and it takes a long time to like really get strong with it. Next question. What made me want to start making videos? As I said before, you know, as a person in STEM, I kind of feel responsible and that I should. Uh, and also, you know, I think it's just fun. Next question. Just want to say your channel is very special. If I were you, I would invest heavily in it, like a good mic, some lighting, etc. I plan on getting a good microphone and a notepad. Uh, I'm working with Google/YouTube to start getting the money flowing. Uh, right now I'm just kind of broke, you know, unfortunately I have to buy this thing called food. So that does kind of get in the way of it. I'm not trying to be condescending, but um it's just in for this high priority in terms of my actual stuff I need to buy low priority.
Next question. Uh why do you think the most popular such prominent political essays that you have covered also happen to be to have a decent amount of misinformation? Besides obvious answers like bias or trying to get a riser to the audience, what do you think prompts the writers to include wrong info? So, actually, I would say the you actually kind of got a bit of a fallacy here cuz you're saying that you're acting you're saying that the ones I cover, it just so happens that they have a lot of misinformation. Uh, the thing is that you are not accounting for the factor that I am targeting essays with misinformation.
So, if if we're talking research here, I would say there's a spurious factor.
Your uh hypothesis is spurious. But if we were to talk about essays at a as a whole, why do they contain misinformation? Like I said before, assumptions. People just assume stuff and they think they're correct and what they say and believe is absolutely correct. And a lot of people are not open to actual critical thinking and changing their mind. And fucking just relisten to my rant about Jubilee if if I have it in this take. It might be in a previous take and I might take it out because it's too long.
Uh my thoughts on academia, funding, accessibility, utility, etc., Especially how most college graduates move on the finance and stock market rather than actual research in the subjects.
It's tough cuz it's like it's money driven. Like you I come from a blue collar family so luckily I got financial aid but like I get no scholarships even though I've been working my ass off to get scholarships I get none. So like the money thing is really tough. So I and especially when it's we're talking public universities that are ran by fucking state governments that already collect a bunch of taxes and then the federal government helps them fund it. Why the fuck am I paying so much money to go to something that I'm already paying like probably three or four fucking taxes for and now I have to pay tuition on top of that?
It's insane. So I I they really I they really need to find a way to lower costs in my opinion. Make it way more accessible. Like I'm not saying free, but like it should be accessible to like the modern fella. like you shouldn't have to fucking plan five t years in advance to go to college. I think that's just wrong.
Um so yeah, and funding accessibility again it's it's just it's too tied up with money and opportunity, but I mean that that's a bigger conversation I don't really want to get into. Utility, it's fucking useful, bro. If we had no academia, we wouldn't have fucking gasoline and like vaccines or any modern medicine. So despite what a lot of people want to think, universities and academia, does it have problems? Yeah.
But it is way more of a benefit to have it than not have it. There's a reason it took fucking uh Europe like 1,200 years to get out of the dark ages cuz they didn't care about science.
So science is really important.
And then with most college grads who want to finance the stock market, uh the issue is it's just money. Unfortunately, the best way to make money is by taking it from other people and not really providing something. I I hate Wall Street in my opinion. All the people on Wall Street, they don't really add anything to society. All they do is find ways to pull money out so that they can have it. And they're good at it. That That's what really pisses me off.
They're good at it. Yeah. I think if you have stock in a company, you should actually have to work at that company.
You shouldn't be able to just sit on stock. But, you know, that's neither here nor there.
But, yeah. Yeah, I mean it's it's sad to see it, but it's also understandable, especially if someone's coming from a family that doesn't have a ton of money.
I can I can understand why they would want to, especially if they click with those subjects. I can understand why.
Next question.
Uh, will you be making a video on IMO functional equations? I'm not a fucking mathematician, bro. Fuck no. I don't even know what that is. So, um, no. Next question. Will I be covering some of James Atlas's videos? Yeah, I've been seeing him I may I got to do more research. I'm going to be honest. I don't know if I can sit through another fucking pretentious racist asshole from that's what he seems like. I mean, didn't he like deny fucking King Leopold II's like brutal fucking pretty much genocide in the Congo? I think he did from what I saw. Like one of his videos was like the real truth about the Congo. And it's like yeah, they killed a lot of fucking people and stole a ton of resources.
That's the truth. So, I I to go through something that fucking stupid and brain dead, it's going to take me a bit to get ready for it.
Next question. Do I fuck with all for the game? I don't know what it is.
Sounds cool. If you fuck with it, bet, but I don't I don't know what it is.
Sorry. All right. Next up. How do I site a dream in MLA format? It might be It might have been a vision so that an MLA would work, too. I don't know much about MLA. I only know a APA. I'm sorry I can't help you there. Uh again, I would say go to Purdue. They might be able to help you. What is my thoughts on generative AI in the academic field? I personally see it to have no benefits.
Um it's helpful for research, but with a huge asterisk, however the fuck you say that. Like my university, the library has a research assistant which can be very helpful. But here's the thing. You can't just say like find me a study that says this and then be like all right call it a day because usually that study isn't related to what I want and and rather what I'm doing is it kind of gives me like a launching off point where I can then go and do my research. So generative AI I I can see its future in academia and like research and stuff and I can see it having benefits but it's not I don't think it's going to be like this revolutionary thing where it's like now we don't need researchers like no it's I don't think it's going to be ever to that degree at least not for a very long time.
What makes sigma males more attractive than alpha males? Uh, I would have to defer to Mr. Anthony Spade. He is more educated on that topic than me. Um, all I know is that sigma males are fucking badass.
All right, next question. Would you rather have unlimited bacon but no more games or unlimited games but no more games? Um, assuming this doesn't contradict itself, I'll take games over bacon. I don't really eat bacon.
Next meat reveal already answered. more one more billion subscribers.
Not a teacher. All right, I'm going to just kind of speedrun this cuz we're at the tail end here.
Uh, do you still Luna? I don't know who that is. Would I rather get $5 million in one year or $1 in 5 million years?
Well, assuming I get over the whole dying thing, I feel like a dollar in 5 million years would probably be pretty like not have a lot of value cuz inflation. If this is assuming a US dollar is even worth anything in five million years, you know, I mean, I feel like by then if humanity survives, we're probably going to be out like intergalactic. So, I don't know how far a US dollar would get me, but um so I think I'm going to take the 5 million in one year. So, that that was a good one. I had to scratch my head though. What's my favorite movies, actors, directors? Why? Indiana Jones in the uh Raiders of the Lost Arc is my favorite movie. It's so fun. Themes are cool. Harrison Ford's awesome. Beating up Nazis, finding cool shit, magic, fucking awesome music. You know, I I really like um George Lucas as a director and Steven Spielberg. Well, sometimes George Lucas is a good director, but Stephen Spielberg, I like his stuff. Other than that, I'm not really too familiar with actors and directors.
>> Oh, my roommate's back. Sorry about that. My roommate just came back in. Um Oh, yeah. movies, directors, actors. I don't really know them too well. I don't really pay attention to Hollywood too much, so kind of no opinion there. Uh, what books do I recommend for people who want to study formal logic? Uh, well, I mean, to really understand it, honestly, you're going to have to take a class on it or a couple classes. Like, you can't really just read a book and get it. So, I would encourage like if you're in university or you have a community college nearby, try and do some courses there. Uh, in terms of books though, there's one book. It's it's literally called just ethics. I'm going to have to look it up. I'll link it below. And that one is just like a bunch of philosophy from like the last 3,000 years. And it's pretty good. I don't know if it's going to teach you how to do formal logic, but it is examples of formal logic, so you might be able to learn through that way. But yeah, no, I would encourage you to go take classes that actually teach it.
Next.
Do you have any reservations with starting a YouTube channel/ being an authority which critiques other people's content? Keep up the good work. Well, I mean, I'm not trying to be like, okay, this is twofold. I'm not trying to be like an authority figure in terms of I know what's up. I'm being an authority figure in terms of I know that you don't know shit. That's what my authority is, is that I know how to poke holes in arguments and I can smell a bullshit argument in a bullshit fucking essay.
That's my authority. I'm not trying to say whether someone is good or bad at making them. I'm just trying to say this particular one is really shit. And usually people who make these shitty essays, especially if they cover certain topics, they are just shitty people as well. So that's my authority is I know how to poke holes in arguments. I hope that answers it. But the again the only thing I would be scared of is creating an echo chamber. Like I want to make sure that people actually learn not just what my critiques are but why I make these. Like why do I go after evidence?
Because you can't just make shit up. Why do I go after thesis? Because you need to be able to communicate your thesis well. Why do I go after conclusion?
Because a good conclusion is very important for the audience to remember.
So that is the other thing I want to make sure that people just don't regurgitate what I say but actually understand it. That that's one of my other reservations.
Are you an alpha as a manosphere alpha or alpha like omega vers alpha? Isn't so I saw someone talk about omega men or like omega males and people like oh my god it's like this and I'm like I don't know what that is and I typed it in and I saw male pregnancy and I clicked off.
So, if this is about me getting pregnant as a guy, I'm uh I'm going to stick with the manosphere one.
Let's see. Or yeah, some other I don't want to be pregnant, bro. Uh what degree in why do I make this content? I study criminology and again help prevent misinformation.
I do not follow a rubric. I think Oh, sorry. I should read the question. Do you follow do you have a rubric you follow or are these points a decent just based on how you feel about it? If you don't have a rubric, do you think you'll ever make one or have you ever thought about making one? Um, I don't have a rubric. I feel like my criticisms are very qualitative in nature. I assign the point value just with how severe I think that infraction is. Like I'm not trying to calculate perfectly quality cuz I'm not smart enough to do that. And it' also kind of be unfair I think. So whenever I like take points off that's just like how severe I think it is in comparison to the other issues and that I thought about making a rubric. I'm probably not going to. I see that people have like given me ideas and stuff. Again the issue is that first I think it would be unfair to apply rubric postfacto and then also like I'm not trying to like quantify how bad these are. I'm trying to teach how to spot issues in essays, not how calculatable the issues are, if that makes sense. Next question. A trolley is heading towards five people. I can pull the lever to divert it, sacrifice myself instead. What do I do? If I'm a utilitarian, I pull it. If I'm a deantologist, I don't. Just depends on what I am. So, my question is, which are you, Mr. Varian Bank? Next question.
What's my favorite arthropod? I actually don't really know what arthropods are. I don't like spiders.
I like crabs. Crabs are cool. And lobsters. I like lobsters. I don't know if those are arthropods, but that is my opinion on arthropods.
Uh, I already answered that one. Have I played Celeste? I've never heard of it, so no. But I bet it's awesome or it's bad. Whichever you think.
Uh, Golfer Pro 75. What animal would be my persona?
Probably giraffe.
I'm I'm pretty tall. I'm 6'2. So, any favorite YouTubers? Uh, as I said before, like Bub Games, Atal Smith, Paty, those are some of my favorites.
Favorite sport? Probably baseball. I don't really play sports. I was never a very sporty person, but I do like baseball. Career goals, as I said before, working with atrisisk populations. Popeyes. I've only had Popeyes twice. One time when I was taking a tour at my university with my mom. There was some Popeyes off campus.
And then the second time was at the Atlanta International Airport. And I thought both times it was it was all right. I think it's slightly better than KFC. I don't like KFC cuz I worked at a KFC and I can never eat KFC again after working in a KFC's kitchen.
Uh, do I play instrument? Yes, I play guitar. Um, I would play a riff, but I really don't feel like setting it all up because I was practicing before this and I just don't want to set it all up again.
Uh, maybe I will see. Would you rather have unth thing?
>> Where did Darth Vader get his shoes? All right, I'm going to skip that. Cyan or yellow? Cyan. I like blue. It's my favorite color. Why do I write with my mouse and paint instead of using a writing software? Um, first off, the keyboard would be loud. Secondly, I feel like the text would be kind of too small. And third, I just like doing it. I think it is fun. So, it's just fun. I'm probably going to do a drawing tablet whenever I can get one. All right. Next. As someone with ADHD, how do you recommend I learn to read more clearly so I don't try to misunderstand things and accidentally twist the words?
Thanks.
Um, I don't have ADHD, but I will often find if I'm not like focusing, I'll read something and I but I won't actually like read it, if that makes sense. I'll like read the words and like, you know, I'll say it in my internal monologue, but I won't actually like read it. So, for me, it's if I'm in that, I'll try and go back and read it slower and like try and like visualize it in my head.
Um, or sometimes I'm just like, you know what, I don't really have the energy to focus on reading right now. So, then I'll go do something else and kind of recalibrate before I return to it. Next, favorite rapper. Again, I'm not too into rap, but the the radio stations out of Boston used to play Biggie all the time, and I liked Biggie, so I'm going to go with Biggie. Am I a giraffe? No. That's my persona apparently.
Next. I'm about to start uploading YouTube videos. When and when was your fuck it, I'll do it moment to start uploading.
Just seeing how stupid basic logic was was kind of the last little push I needed. So, yeah. Next. Do I like strawberries? Yeah, they're cool. I like strawberries.
Next. Am I considering a career in education? If not, perhaps tutoring the youth of today how to write an essay would be easy side income. Um, I actually applied to a couple tutoring places and they all told me to get bent.
So, yeah, my local area apparently doesn't want me as a tutor.
Um, considering a career in education. I always thought if I do do something, I might like retire or not retire, but like for a year or two, I'll go like teach at like a public school or like a university or something. So, education has always been something that I was interested in and am interested in.
What's my major? Crimology. I am in college. I will not be telling you guys where I attend. I apologize but you guys will not be learning that. Um at the time stamp of 8:45 and I'm assuming this is number six. I was talking about democratization of social media. What I mean uh so I was writing a paper about social bonds theory and how it relates to juveniles with social media. So social bonds to give a really rough overview. I'll try and find a source and uh I'll link it below. probably just like Mariam Webster or something or Britannica. But basically social bonds is like how bonded you are with certain aspects in your life like your family, your community, parents, friends, yada yada yada. So I was hypothesizing that social media is a new thing that juveniles can bond with. And the reason for that is because of social media is very democratic. And by that I mean like you're able to upload and consume very easily. So like think of Snapchat when a fight breaks out, everyone pulls their camera out to record it and post it on their Snap story or something. And so I was so that's why I said would be democratization where now that people are able to upload content very easily, they have an incentive to gather content. And uh I was hypothesizing that this might have a negative effect on other social bonds because in the interest of gathering content they might um wave certain social norms that otherwise they would abide to.
I'd tell if a essay/ a video is sloppy ask questions. How and why and how do you know that info? That's the biggest thing is just press for questions. Uh next. Hi. Hello. Next. What's my favorite dinosaur? Spinosaurus all the way. Spinosaurus gang. So, uh, next. Do I think you're black? I don't have enough info to go off of. So, unfortunately, I'm going to have to take a rain check on that one. Next. What's my favorite animal? Probably giraffes. I like giraffes. They're cool. They're silly.
Next. Do you think a bad idea can be disguised to be agreeable if the argument is presented well enough? Yes, absolutely. I mean, fucking Socrates himself bitched about this with the uh the sophists.
A lot of people aren't good at making good essays. They're good at making bad essays look good. So that's what I am kind of trying to combat here with my videos. So yes, absolutely.
Unfortunately, that is how it's been working for the last fucking couple thousand years. Am I a strawberry elephant? No, I'm a human. Favorite color? Blue. Rubia o maracha.
I probably pronounced that horribly, but he is saying blonde or brunette. And I definitely didn't have to click translate on that because my Spanish is super rusty. I can read it a little bit, but it's very rusty. Uh, no preference.
What do you think is the most overrated saying of phrase people say? To piggy back off that. Oh my god. Every time I'm in one of my classes and we're having like a a class discussion and I hear someone say, "Well, to piggy it back off that, I want to fucking eat glass." I don't know what it is, but it's such a pet peeve for me. It sounds so stupid. I fucking hate it. I hate that term. And the biggest thing I hate about that term is that's really fucking useful. So, I can't even be angry at people for using it. I just don't like it. So, all right.
Next. What styles of genre, what style/ genres of writing do you gravitate towards more casual reading? Um, I like stories. Again, stories, you know, the Iliad, Odyssey, Aniad, uh, Frankenstein.
I like kind of fictional things, I guess, kind of hero stories. I guess that answers it. I'm not, again, I don't really do too much casual reading anymore.
All right. And then a last question that I'm seeing, you know, I mean, this is already like fucking over an hour. If you're searching, if you're researching on a topic that changes your stance on said topic, but you can't back out because that was assigned to you, should you backpedal a bit or double down? This is really interesting. So, I'm assuming what you're saying is that I got assigned something, but as I researched it, I was convinced that this stance isn't correct or isn't entirely correct.
What I would do is I would stick with that stance, but acknowledge the counter evidence and be like this is my argument. However, and then like you kind of have maybe not a rebuttal page, but acknowledge like there's also a lot of contrary evidence, so this is an ongoing discussion, so my opinion shouldn't be seen as absolute or final.
And this is an area that a lot of people are still going back and forth with.
That's what I think would be best. If you can't change it, if you can change the stance, then switch to whichever you think is correct. But if you can't, that's what I would do. All right. Well, that's everything in here. I am getting very tired. Uh, I need to go drink water. I'm getting a headache from speaking so much. But thank you guys for watching. Thank you for 10K again. It's insane. Uh, I hope this answers some questions. I know this wasn't very visually appealing, so I don't know why I'm saying this at the end, but I would recommend listening to this in the background. And I probably should have said that at the beginning. Um, but yeah, uh, I'm going to start probably working on a project that's not grading essays.
Maybe I will, maybe I won't. We'll see.
And I'm going to start doing some research. So, I usually take a day or two between videos. But anyway, thank you guys for all the awesome questions.
And thank you guys for listening and all the amazing support. Glory to you all or best, good luck, whatever else. I'm trying to think of like a cool little cool little sign out for the Jamie's channel. Best to you, Sigas.
All right, I'm going to go ahead and nip this in the bug because this is Jammies Nation. Peace.
