A rare Himalayan Tricarinate Hill Turtle (Meiolania kyle's tricarinata), typically found in sub-Himalayan regions of northeast India, southern Nepal, and southern Bhutan, was discovered in Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, Chhattisgarh. This endangered species, protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, was spotted in a tropical deciduous forest ecosystem, which is highly unusual for its native temperate forest and grassland habitat. The turtle's three distinct ridges on its shell give it its scientific name. Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, formed in 2008-2009 by merging Udanti and Sitanadi wildlife sanctuaries, spans 1,842 square kilometers and is connected to Indravati Tiger Reserve through wildlife corridors.

Imagine this. A highly rare turtle usually found in the Himalayas suddenly appears in the Udanti Satanti Tiger Reserve of Chhattisgarh. But how did it reach here?
Is this just a rare discovery or a bigger signal connected to our forest?
Let's decode. Hello everybody, welcome back to the YouTube platform of Next is myself Supria Singh. Today we are going to talk about a very rare turtle usually found in the Himalayas has been discovered in the state of Chhattisgar Himalayan forest corniferous.
Dry to moisturous forestology environmental adaptation dry elusive turtles from Himalayas turns up in the CG tiger reserve surprising forest officials to Chhattisgarh just tiger reserve Udanti Satanti Tiger Reserve so if I talk about Odanti Sitanti Tiger Reserve then in 2008 2009 in 2008 2009 Udanti Sitanti Tiger Reserve was formed by merging Udanti Wildlife sanctuary which is situated in Gary Band.
Gary Bandh district of Chhattisgarh and Sitanti wildlife sanctuary which is situated in Dhari.
Dhamari district of Chhattisgarh.
Combining the uh wildlife century these both two wildlife centuries formed what?
Odanti Satanti Tiger reserve. Tiger was usually spotted in this particular area. So now talking about this particular turtle. So a Himalayon tririccarinate hill turtle was spotted. Triricarinate.
Why? Because in shell is turtle shell we find three ridges and because of these three ridges present on the shell of this turtle it is known as Himalayan triarinate turtle and it was spotted in the Odanti Sitanti tiger reserve scientific name is mea no kyle's triarinata a small terrestrial and rare species species of turtle and the name is derived from the three distinct kees ridges on its shell and habitat is subimalayon region as we already discussed in the northeast India southern Nepal southern Bhutan Bangladesh okay and it is found generally in the temperate forest grassland and the Himalayan foothills region so what is the uh ICN status so I status is endangered so it is under Schedule one of the wildlife protection act 1972.
Okay. Now next Odantai Satanti Tiger Reserve location about as we talked about it. Odanti Satanti Tiger Reserve is situated in the state of Chhattisgarh and it is situated in two different district which is Gary and Dtari as I spoke about 20089 where Gary and Dtari were merged together to form Odanta Sitanti Tiger Reserve. So formation established in 20089 by merging the Odanti wildlife century and Sitanti wildlife century named after the Odanti Sitanti river flowing through these wildlife centuries and the total area is approximately 1,842 square kilometer. If I talk about the core area then the core area is 851 square kilometer and the buffer area is 991 square kilometer tiger reserve or buffer zone it is mentioned. So wildlife corridor about then it is connected through the kanker and northern kondagon forest division forming a continuous forest corridor up to the Indraati tiger reserve. So this is very very important. Indraati tiger reserve is situated Indraati tiger reserve because Indraati river flows through it. Now Indraati river is the tributary of which river?
So always remember Indraati river is the tributary of Godavi river. Okay or Indraati tiger reserve river present right odanti sitanti tiger reserve drainage system. If we talk about the drainage system of odanti siti tiger reserve then the main river is Mahanadi.
Mahanadi Mahanadi originates from Chhattisgarh CG. So Mahanadi originates from Chhattisgarh and the tributary is Udanti, Sitanti, Indraan and Perry. And topography highest point, highest point is Dongri and the most prominent mountain is Atang Dongar.
Now talking about the biodiversity, if we talk about the biodiversity then primarily it is tropical dry deciduous or moist deciduous and the major tree species found in this particular tiger reserve is sal bamboo tendu mahwa okay bijahara fa if you talk about animals then many endangered species are found here like Asian wildwater buffalo tiger Indian wolf, leopard, sloth beer or mouse deer. Now talking about this question. So we discussed about this particular wildlife centuries uh Odanti wildlife century, Sitanti wildlife century, Indraati tiger reserve. We also discussed about the Odanti Sitanti Tiger Reserve, its formation, its drainage system, Mahanadi river, the rare turtle species and the type of forest area okay around it. So now talking about the question. So this is the question from the discuss topic. Okay. So the question says that recently the Himalayan triarinate hill turtle was spotted in which tiger reserve. So the options are first Kha, second simply tiger reserve, third Udanti sitant tiger reserve and four bandagar tiger reserve? Kindly post your answer in the comment section and if you have any doubt regarding this particular topic, kindly post that as well. I'll see you next in the next video. Till then thank you. Take care.
