When a pond experiences structural problems like leaks, draining it allows for repairs and the addition of fish habitat structure, which provides hiding places for bass and spawning areas for bait fish, ultimately supporting a sustainable fishing ecosystem.

Alumni Pond Is FINALLY Filling Back Up! (Las Cruces UpdateAdded:
Yo, what is going down YouTube? All right, you guys. I want to talk about what I want to get in the habit of doing is talking Tuesdays and fishing Fridays.
So, what I mean by that is on Tuesdays, I want to be putting out content just talk about fishing, something fishing related. Either I see it on YouTube, internet, on the news, anything. Um just little videos like that, just little things that I see that I feel like, "Yo, let me report it back to you guys. See what you guys input it on it, how you guys feel about it." This video, it's actually going to be a huge shout out to my boy uh Brandon from M&M Studios. He posted on his Facebook that an update on the the New Mexico alumni. It's in Las Cruces and for us in El Paso, you know, it's a For me, from where I live, it's a 45-minute drive. It was a great place where I didn't have to go all the way to New Mexico uh Elephant Butte uh Caballo Lake. I didn't have to make that far of a drive. For me, 45 minutes, I mean, it's not too bad. I can do that in a day. Go drop off my kids, go fish there, and then come back to pick up my kids. Quick recap, alumni, it had a leak, so they completely drained it. All the fish, I know it had some decent-sized bass in there. I have no idea where they put it. Some were saying that it went to Young's Park. I'm not 100% where they put it. Pretty sure they're not going to bring those fish back. So, they're actually in the process of They drained it. They fixed what was leaking, and now they put structure, which looks absolutely amazing, for bass, for any fish, guys.
When you put structure, it's for not so much It is for the bass, but it's also for the prey that the bass feed on because the bait fish, because they get to hide from the bass, to spawn, to do their their thing. So, this way they're just not eaten right as soon as they put them in there, they're eaten up, and that's it. There's no more bait fish.
So, you want the fish to constantly respawn, especially the bait fish, so this way there's more fish for the bass and the other fish that they put in there to eat. That lake gets stocked with catfish, trout, and bass. From what I understand, I think they just do like a Scott at the They just stock it one time with bass, and then they let them spawn, and but the catfish and the trout, I'm thinking it's the exact same thing as a Scott at the where they're constantly being put into there. That's awesome news that they are starting to fill it up with water. Uh as far as the date for fishing, I'm not 100% sure. It is great news just because it is somewhere else to fish. As you guys know, like the canals are dead. If you guys go like carp fishing and cat fishing, the canals are still decent from what I understand. I know that a lot of people still fish the canals for catfish and carp. Hey guys, I don't know. I don't know what happened to the bass. Um I think people just kept them, and that's it, guys. They're not going to get restocked. It's nothing It's not like they do get restocked. Going back to Alumni. So, it's really great news. I don't know if you guys saw the structure. I would really like if they implemented that into the duck pond. How do you guys feel about that? Would you guys feel like hell yeah, like you're cool with them draining As far as I know, there's not any fish in there because they We did have a fish die-off in the duck pond. So, I would be cool if they just completely drained it, and then put the structure, fix it up, make it a little bit deeper. Do exactly what they did with the Alumni. But, I mean, I don't know, guys. They're in the process right now. So, you guys can go to the meetings. From what I understand is they want to completely cut out the duck pond. So, they're going to put it make it into a skating skating rink. It's not a skating rink, but for the skateboarders, they're going to actually turn it into that, guys. They're going to completely cover up the duck pond, and they're going to drain it and cover it up. So, I hope they don't do that. It would be amazing if they did what they're doing right now in the Alumni.
That would be awesome because, I mean, it would only take about maybe like 2 years, 2 3 years, probably a little bit longer for you guys to start fishing it, but it's better that they do something with it now than there's actually good fishing and then they decide, you know what? Yeah, we are going to do something with the duck pond and we're going to drain it all out, but at least they can put it back into the big lake praying that there's no fish die-off. At least we know that that they did their best to make it into a great fishing pond. And it's not only for um bass fishing guys, especially like the alumni, they're really big on like just the same thing as Scott at the They implement the same things where it's bass, catfish, and trout. I mean, it'll be good for all fishermen. I hope they do something really good with the duck pond, kind of like they did alumni, but I mean, until then, if you guys want to make the drive, like I said, for me it's 45 minutes. If you're closer to the west side, probably like 20 minutes. I'm really excited for when they do fill it up. I know that alumni and also like Young's Park, I don't know if you guys are too familiar with that in New Mexico, they do keep everything. Like Young's, you could catch maybe like one bass that's in there cuz it's not really big, just like alumni, it's not a really big pond. So, if you're keeping it, I mean, it's not a big pond. You're able to like really fish every There's nowhere where a fish can hide. I'm just looking forward to the alumni guys because there's not a lot of good spots anymore. I'm on constantly always asked about and kind of why I want to do these series is to talk about it is I am asked like on my channel or people DM me and ask me like, "Hey, is there any good fishing spots? Or where can I go fishing? I'm new to fishing, where can I go?"
So, this is kind of why this series is really going to come in handy where I can actually answer your guys' questions and basically to the general everybody who watches my channel. If you're able to drive like 45 minutes, which isn't too bad, too crazy, right? That looks like it's going to be a good lake. The thing that does suck is you do have to get your New Mexico license, which is way more expensive than if you're a resident here in Texas. I get both for year-round just because I do want to be jumping back and forth fishing here and then fishing in Mexico.
And I fish all the uh state, so I have to get my license. I don't get them year-round because I don't go year-round. Probably won't be for another year, guys. So, I don't want you guys to think, "Okay, let me get my my tackle and head up out there." It probably won't be fishable probably for about a year, a year and a half. I mean, for you catfish men and trout fishermen, it'll probably be good to go probably in a year, I'm thinking. It'll probably good in a year just because they stock them already big enough to be caught.
Bass, for all you bass fishermen, they usually stock them with fingerlings, so it takes about a year and a half uh 2 years for the fish to actually get big enough for you to start catching them. I mean, at least they've done something with that because they drained it and it would have just sucked if they didn't do anything with it. So, at least they actually did something and they they took advantage of the fact that of the lake being cleared. They drained it and they had to fix a leak. They put in some more structure, which is awesome.
Again, you guys want anything for me to talk about, anything for me to address, it could be different things, guys. What I'm talking about talking Tuesday is it could be how to tie a FG knot. It could be something you heard on the news, something you heard in the on the radio, anything. Anything that you guys have any questions that you guys want, my gear, anything like that. The baits that are for this season, it's going to be talking Tuesday and on Fridays I'm going to try going out there and fishing and hopefully do some fishing content if you guys actually see me catch a fish. Now, the reason I want to do that also is cuz it's really if you guys have never done like fishing content, it's really difficult to fish here in Escobedo for bass. I'm saying it for bass because carp fishing and catfish are a little bit different just because and I might start getting into that. Uh for me, like throwing the corn out there for for carp and for the catfish, which I do want to kind of do more of that fishing in that season. Right now it's catfish season, so I'll probably be doing catfishing if the bass bite really dies down. If I'm really having trouble catching bass, then I'll probably will transition because on all honesty, a lot of you guys just carp fish and catfish. So I will do some of those videos and trout fish. So I will be doing some of those videos where you just cast it out there and then you just wait, but for me guys, I'm just get so impatient and I have to be moving around. I have to be casting reeling in like a 5-year-old, huh? Can't just sit there. I have to be casting reeling in casting reeling in. You can do that with trout, but catfish and carp it's more you just throw it out there and you just sit there and wait. Yeah, let me know what you guys idea. Give me some feedback. Let me know if you guys are into it. Hope you all enjoyed the video. Smash that like button. Smash that subscribe button. Love you all. God bless to the next.
