South Carolina's state House approved new congressional maps in a 14-hour session, which would give Republicans an advantage by incorporating the state's one majority Democratic district into surrounding Republican districts, potentially weakening GOP-held districts and requiring the June primaries to be postponed to August, with the proposal still needing Senate approval before reaching Governor Henry McMaster's desk.

SC House backs congressional map favoring GOPAjouté :
South Carolina representatives are moving forward with congressional maps at to redistrict the state. State house leaders debated until after midnight in a 14-hour session before approving the new map. Queen City News anchor Savannah Rudisel joining us now with where the proposal goes from here. Savannah, good morning.
>> Hey, good morning, guys. The new congressional map it still needs approval from the state Senate before going to Governor Henry McMaster's desk.
It's expected to face more opposition from Senate Republicans than the small GOP pushback plan got in the house. Now, the new maps would give Republicans an advantage by incorporating the state's one majority Democratic district into surrounding red districts. Some state senators believe that change may weaken the GOP-held districts. Four House Republicans voted against it last night.
Now, House Democrats they introduced many different amendments to the new bill, all of which were shot down. The effort comes amid a national push in several GOP-led states to redraw maps following recent court rulings on voting rights.
I'm in congressional district 7 now, and we fought very hard many years ago to get the 7th congressional district in our area and the low country and in the PD, and now it's all being divided.
If the plan passes, the June primaries would be pushed back to August. Now, the hundreds of absentee ballots state elections officials have already received from overseas military members and residents, those would be considered void. State would need to send out new ballots for the delayed primary. Back to you.
