Political parties in Nigeria frequently experience internal factional conflicts that can undermine party unity and electoral prospects. The video illustrates this through the PDP's 2027 presidential race, where the Turaki-led faction, whose 2020 convention was nullified by INEC, is now recognizing Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential candidate despite the Wike faction being the recognized one. This demonstrates how internal party disputes, combined with constitutional eligibility questions and leadership challenges, can create complex political dynamics that affect electoral outcomes and party cohesion.

To further help us break down this headlines, few of the headlines is a political analyst Okoro Vincent. Good to have you join us Okoro Vincent. How are you doing today?
It's a beautiful Wednesday morning.
Good morning, Cassy Tony. I'm doing good today. I'm very excited to be with you in the studio once more this morning. All right, thank you so much.
I hope the situation of the country is not really getting to you because a lot of things are happening in this country.
Well, is there anyone that that can say that the situation of the country is not getting to him or her?
Of course, the situation of the country is getting to all of us.
You know, you can see what happened overnight where the EFCC was able to successfully, you know, apprehend the ex-minister Yes, ex-minister of power.
You know, and then that is something I think we should share as Nigerians because the era in which the the our public servants continue to take the the citizenry for granted, you know, heaping more misery upon us, you know, should be a thing of the past. But unfortunately, we are still seeing these things repeat themselves. All right, thank you so much, Vincent. Let's look at what's is trending the headlines in the Daily Trust. At the bottom of the newspaper on page um 20 on page 5 and 6 of the newspaper, PDP faction clears Jonathan for presidential race come 2027. Now, this PDP faction, we understand that is the Turaki-led faction, and the Turaki-led faction is not being recognized by the INEC because we could recall that the convention that they held in November 2020 um 5, the INEC nullified that convention that is not being recognized, that they did not meet up to the demands, and the recognized one is the Wike faction. So, why is your um Turaki-led faction recognizing um Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential candidate? Before now, we were talking about them bringing him out as a sole um presidential candidate, but now they have actually cleared him.
Won't it be More Like exactly.
>> the PDP. Well, uh what is there is that uh first and foremost, myself, like I think many out there uh I'm I'm unable to imagine Mhm. that uh the person of Goodluck Jonathan will be coming to run for an election because I'm trying to imagine what must it be that he kept in Aso Rock that he wants to go and collect. You know, be that as it may, you know, he's a free citizen of Nigeria.
And then uh if the constitution permits him, allows him, if you have the constitutional backing to run for presidency, of course, there's nothing that stops him. But uh the other uh the other side of the story is uh is he bound to run under PDP if he decide that there's something in Aso Rock that he wants to go collect, or there's something he would have loved to give to Nigerians that he he couldn't give to Nigerians for over 7 years that he was at the hems of affairs. Now, uh we have a Turaki-led faction of PDP that is being backed by Makinde. Then we have that of Wike and then we also have the Board of Trustees. Now, if we recall, we remember that just a few nice days ago, the Supreme Court has actually actually laid to rest this rancor and then and empower the Board of Trustees to Trustees to come up with a working a national working committee to pilot the affairs of the PDP heading to the 2027 election.
Then surprisingly, we saw the Dokpesi faction coming on board again. Now, that does not really mean does not necessarily mean that, you know, they are illegitimate because it was a a duly or let me let me not say duly constituted anyway, but the the Board of Trustees that actually empower them to act on a temporary basis as far as the manage affairs of PDP at the national is concerned. Now, where it becomes a problem is that you want you as both, you are you are made up of the so-called elders of PDP. Now, you are expected to act as a dad, the father of the entire house. But they seem they called one faction of the house and then empower them to continue from where they actually stopped, which the other faction were like, "We are expecting you to be a father to all of us, but look at what you just did." And that actually more or less a mess a mass the PDP into more problem, into more rancor. And it is such a platform that a man like Goodluck Jonathan has come to run. Well, personally myself, I'm yet to see him mount any podium telling Nigerians that he wants to run for the office of the presidency. Until I see that, I will not take what the PDP is doing right now serious. Thank you so much. You know, in my own opinion, I actually expect that Goodluck Jonathan should actually speak up because this rumors is becoming too much. Him keeping silent is almost like he's accepting the fact that they want he wants to run again. And just like you He maybe he actually forgot something in that sorrow that >> he wants to actually go and pick up that he didn't pick up all the time that he actually sat as president. Thank you so much for that analysis. Let's move away from that to the nation newspaper. In the nation newspaper in page two, where it is written, "Amachi says he did not buy presidential form to become Atiku's running mate." That he actually bought the form to be a presidential aspirant, not Atiku's running mate. Because in an interview, he was constantly being referred to vice president. And he has come out to clear the air. That he didn't buy the form to become vice president. So, let's hear your own thoughts on that.
>> Well, Amachi if we recall very well was was a presidential aspirant you know, in 2023 or 2022 leading to 2023. He was a presidential aspirant under the APC.
Now, you you don't expect that for whatever reason, a particular person will just sit down and then subjugate his own ambition under the umbrella of another. Now, looking at looking at the person of Atiku Abubakar, you expect that there is some level of respect that Amachi who politically and and age-wise is more or less like a junior to Atiku Abubakar. Then if you also look at the fact that both of them are citizen of this country, then you will agree with me that the person of Atiku Abubakar has more spread as far as as being known across the length and breadth of the nation is concerned.
Having been the vice president, the first vice president in this current dispensation. Now, Amachi being being looked at as a potential running mate of Atiku Abubakar is not something that I personally think he should see as as an insult to his personality. For him to come and start debunking that he is running. What about if at the end of the day Atiku Abubakar emerge as the flag bearer of that party. And then it decide that I mention should be his running mate. Is he telling us that he will is not going to accept. So, what I think I mention is supposed to do is for him to just relax and allow the public to go ahead with your speculation. You know, like the other day, I I had a I read in a forum in a in a platform where he was actually saying that the person of Atiku Abubakar's time have he have he have has has outlived his relevance as far as the politics of Nigeria is concerned. You know, and you imagine somebody that have the same right to choose in a political a political in a political party in which is running against you, he may likely emerge. And you are busy marketing, you know, your your colleague or your your opponent in the same platform. You know, that at the end of the day, if he emerge as the aspirant, you are expected to throw your weight behind him. So, how is I mention going to take some of these things he's doing and some of the things he's saying, some of his action? How is he going to take them back if at the end of the the person of Atiku Abubakar becomes the flag bearer of the ADC. So, to me, I I mention need to actually maintain decorum, you know, heading to the primaries so that we don't have a situation where where we are looking for formidable opposition formidable coalition to challenge the ruling party.
If not for anything, for them to know that some other persons are watching their back. That I mention should not be the one that will bring it down the ADC.
All right, thank you so much, uh Vincent, for that analysis. I mention should actually take cautions of what whatever he said because Nigerians don't forget things. By the time he finally accepts to perhaps be Atiku's running mate, Nigerians will bring it up again.
I thought you said this and you said that. All right, thank you. Away from that to the Matrix newspaper. I don't know if you watched yesterday's match.
We are going to talk about it. You know, it was a jubilation for Arsenal.
After 22 years, Arsenal finally performed magic. What happened? Did they change their coach? Did they change their um players? What actually happened? How come after 22 years?
>> Of course we cannot say the the fact that their coach was changed is no question. It is because you can imagine how many coaches that have changed hands in that club between 2002 to 2003 season when they last won the league. Now there's something that they'd rather change that is actually not changing the coach. Because I can imagine Arteta has been in the in the helm of affairs of Arsenal the Arsenal team for the past five years plus. You know so that actually brought some kind of stability. That actually brought a situation where they were able to you know look at what they need to do in order for them to avoid the successive mistake that have made them to become a laughing stock as far as the the top teams in in the that part of Europe is concerned. You know so now you saw that Arteta sat down and said to look at okay it's not like this team is not scoring goals but this team keep on conceding even against the smaller side.
So what did they do? They shut down their defense. And make sure it you know in fact we can say that they they made their defense the threat of almost as far as the Premier League is concerned. You can see their keeper conceding the lowest number of goals. In fact he has the record now for the highest number of clean sheet in the history of the Premiership if I'm not mistaken. So that alone tells you that Arsenal actually went you know into their closet and then decided what is a sponge to what was not working for them and adopted what is working for them and they and they worked on it very well. Then remember also they used to see Arsenal as a side that is not physically dominant. Now when you now look at the fact that this season they have they have recorded the highest number of of of of goals in terms of in terms of set pieces. You know goals comes from corners coming from free kick. Then you will now understand that they are now a really dominant force as far as the Premiership is concerned. Of course, the Champions League is another testing point for them come to the come end of month. That should be next week. You know, that we should that with PSG coming to the party, then we should really see if actually Arsenal are really have have really arrived as contenders and not pretenders.
>> Thank you so much. You know, with the glow on your face, you're sounding like you're an Arsenal fan, right?
>> Well, actually I should rather be thinking that you're an Arsenal fan because I know >> Of course, I'm an Arsenal fan, proud one.
>> there's a lot of stuff in the football world that's happening, especially with respect to all the developing stories heading to the World Cup. But I began to wonder why you decided to pick on Arsenal. Of course, I'm an Arsenal fan.
I couldn't sleep on this one. This is a huge victory for us. Congratulations to you and congratulations to all the all the Arsenal fans. Thank you. And whatever they did, they should keep up with it because this is a very new and maybe the >> simply saying that they should keep up being defensive and being battle ready. You know, by by injuring [clears throat] their opponent from you know, playing anti-football.
That's what you're telling me. As long as as long as they win.
>> Exactly. Yes.
>> It's all like I told you. All the best to you and your Arsenal Football Club.
>> Thank you. Thank you so much, Vincent.
Thank you so much, viewers, for watching. I am Cassie Tony reminding you to stay informed and stay ahead. And do well to join us next time for more breaking news. Still have a beautiful day.
