[00:00:06]That was enjoyable to do, but I keep hearing about some struggles that the Airbnb community is having right now due to the World Cup and I just can't help myself. I feel a pull to talk about this again. It's kind of like a calling, a spiritual calling at this point. I guess a lot of the Airbnb owners were planning on banking during the World Cup. You know, a lot of people needing places to stay, but alas, it hasn't really been going as they planned. So, let's see why.

So it's about the same price, but it's still cheaper to stay at the hotel because this is the total overall amount. And the Airbnb host didn't tell us what all of the fees were, all of the cleaning fees, and the tax, and everything like that. So after everything said and done for the Airbnb host, you're probably looking at like if you stay there for one night, like $2,000.

[00:04:32]>> This is an Airbnb that's just half a mile away from the stadium. Property manager told me that it was listed at $1,200 a night, but they've had to reduce that down to $312.

[00:04:47]$1,200 a night? Y'all are increasing it to three times the amount of what you usually charge for this place?

I just I don't feel bad that you were treating this as some kind of opportunity to take advantage of people needing a place to stay, and that it didn't work out. I'm sorry, I don't feel bad for that. I'm sorry that I it's It's hard for me to have empathy for your situation here.

[00:05:23]>> Airbnb sent me a statement that reads in part, "More guests are now booked to stay in host city homes during the tournament than at any event before."

[00:05:30]However, Sarah Joy, who's a property manager for 20 Airbnbs around the city, >> 20 Airbnbs, full stop. Stop it right there. You bought 20 homes in this area to turn them into Airbnbs, full stop.

[00:05:43]That's [ __ ] crazy. Full stop. That's all I need to say. That's [ __ ] crazy.

[00:05:47]>> It was supposed to be record bookings, but we're not really seeing the demand.

[00:05:52]>> She told me right now only 10 of her properties are booked.

[00:05:54]>> You really have to drop your pricing to really pick that that demand up.

[00:06:08]She's only making half of thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars from the homes that she bought and turned into Airbnb's instead of letting people in the community buy those homes or try to buy those homes.

[00:06:27]>> She says people have canceled because of visa issues.

[00:06:30]>> They said they no longer are coming because their application didn't get approved.

[00:06:36]>> And some because of prices, which she says is not a problem some of her business counterparts in other host cities are experiencing.

[00:06:43]>> Their pricing is still being able to be doubled or if not tripled.

[00:06:57]>> understand why this is a news story. I mean, no hate to this reporter. It's just so funny that this is something that hotels and Airbnb hosts were complaining enough about that they went to the news station were like, "Hey, I'm not making enough money. Do something.

[00:07:13]Dude, what are you going to just let this happen? Do something about this. I I'm not making three times as much money as I usually do. And you're just okay with this? You're not going to do something about it? Why are companies going to news stations and complaining that they're not seeing enough profit? I just don't understand how this is newsworthy because a lot of people are not making as much money as they would like to. Literally everyone probably right now. About 99% of people are not making as much money as they want to.

[00:07:42]They're not going to go to the news station and be like, "Hey, can you talk about this? Hey, my boss is only paying me $8 an hour." Oh, okay. And I feel like I should be making probably [music] at least $10 an hour for the amount of work I'm doing. Right, right. Um so, that really sucks. Sure. Mhm.

[00:08:02]So, can you like talk about it? Oh, I'm sorry. We would if it was just, [music] you know, more important. Like if you were a landlord or a giant [ __ ] corporation.

[00:08:14]>> Cup absolutely did not book out my Airbnb property. There was no boom in demand. Hiking my prices didn't result in any crazy bookings or profits.

[00:08:31]>> crazy to come online and talk about this. And also, of course it didn't work. You're literally saying why it didn't work. Guys, I increased the prices of my tomatoes by about 100%.

She's like >> So, I haven't been making as much money as I thought I would, and I've been talking to other Airbnb hosts about how they're also not making as much money as they thought they would.

[00:09:09]>> Like I do understand that some of these people can't be compared to corporations worth billions and billions of dollars or landlords that are worth millions and millions of dollars. However, a lot of these Airbnb hosts that I've seen so far have at least 15 properties. 15 houses.

[00:09:31]Hello. Pretty safe to say that you make a lot of money at that point. So, why are you on the internet complaining that you didn't make twice as much money or three times as much money as you usually do when you already own 20 houses? What are you going to do? Buy 20 more houses?

[00:09:46]I mean that was supposed to be a joke, but that's actually what they're probably going to do. So okay, I just found this post on Reddit about how apparently Airbnb really hyped up the World Cup traffic to Airbnb owners because I'm sure Airbnb saw this coming and was like guys, we have got [music] to capitalize on this. This person says I'm a host in Atlanta and my properties are in the 1% of listings in the area. I was invited by Airbnb to attend a host the World Cup and international guest conference. The conference was great and I was able to connect with other hosts and network. Amazing.

[00:10:17]A conference full of Airbnb hosts sounds amazing, sounds great. Airbnb representatives and guest speakers all boasted about the money making opportunities and economic boom this specific event will bring. Myself and all the other attendees were ecstatic and the numbers [music] made sense and sounded promising. However, using our forecasting models and PMS, oh, I'm sorry girl.

[00:10:37]Just uh get some my doll. Wondering if any other hosts in the World Cup market are seeing any traction or if this World Cup boom wasn't at all what it was talked up to be. This person says there's also the issue of FIFA ticket prices being completely ridiculous. We live in the US and thought about coming to Atlanta to see some matches, but with tickets starting at around $700 we decided to scrap the whole trip. Holy [ __ ] So FIFA and Airbnb are having a surge pricing off. They're both inflating their prices as much as possible. They're trying to profit max. And it's obviously having an effect on people. Everything is way too expensive and that's obviously why people aren't booking stuff. But for whatever reason these Airbnb hosts are going on to news channels and being like, I just don't know what's going on.

[00:11:21]I just don't know what's happening. Let me see how much it is to buy a World Cup ticket right now. One ticket, please.

[00:11:31]Oh my god, it's $1,400.

[00:11:34]Wait, I have to screen record. I Y'all, I just remembered that you can't actually see what I'm doing. Okay, for one ticket, one person, all the way in the back, all the way in the nosebleeds, is at least $1,400.

[00:11:49]Wait, this one here is $1,600, $1,800. If you want to be right here in the front, yeah, that's going to go ahead and be $3,000.

[00:11:59]Jesus [music] Christ. So, if you want to go with a friend, you're spending at least $3,000 on the tickets alone. And then these Airbnb hosts increase their [ __ ] prices by like 300%.

[00:12:14]Wait, no, no, no, more than that. I can't do math, sorry. Taking rooms that were $300 and making them like $1,200.

[00:12:21]That's 400% increase, I think.

[00:12:25]It is so incredibly out of touch for these people to be going to news stations and complaining that you are not making triple the amount of money you usually make when you already have plenty of it.

[00:12:37]You have more than enough of it. How can you possibly think that that is something worthy of complaining about?

[00:12:43]Or that you're owed some kind of sympathy from the people that you were trying to overcharge? I don't really know what you want people to say other than what people have been commenting, where they're like, "Hey, I'm honestly glad that didn't happen."

[00:13:00]That's honestly really cool to hear to me, a person on TikTok who is not an Airbnb host, who doesn't own 20 homes.

[00:13:08]This is like if you were up for a promotion at work and the person that actually ended up getting the promotion went on to TikTok and started complaining about how they're not making enough more money than you. If you want to go to your Airbnb conferences, where you get to network with other Airbnb people, and you want to complain about this kind of stuff, then great, go do it over there, but don't do it here on the same platform where people are posting stuff like, "Yeah, can't pay my rent this month. Yeah, I got fired from Spirit Airlines, and then a beauty influencer started calling me a bitch."

[00:13:38]If you guys wanted to go to the World Cup, and you aren't able to because of how ridiculous the tickets are, I will play a game of soccer right now by myself to just try and make up for that.
