Presidential endorsements significantly influence primary election outcomes, as demonstrated by Ken Paxton's victory over incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the Texas GOP Senate runoff, where Trump's endorsement proved decisive in securing the nomination. This case illustrates how political endorsements can reshape electoral dynamics, particularly in competitive primaries where established incumbents may face challenges from well-supported challengers.

Trump endorsed Ken Paxton WINS Texas GOP runoffAñadido:
It's a major day for the Trump administration as we come on the air this morning. Key cabinet members are scheduled to discuss the next steps in Iran today, plus the president is celebrating more election wins last night. We're tracking the very latest on the the Trump agenda right here. Thank you so much for joining us here on the national news desk. I'm Angela Brown in for Jan Jeffcoat. It is Wednesday, May 27th, and we have so much to get to this morning, including a major update on peace negotiations with Iran. In just hours from now, the president's cabinet will convene at the White House as they weigh the next steps. We are expected to hear directly from the president on those talks, as well as his reaction to more primary election wins. Last night, President Trump's candidates won in another clean sweep, as you can see right here by the graphic that the president posted, which is just more proof that his endorsement still holds all the power in the Republican Party.
We want to get right over to Mark Boyle at the live desk following both developing stories this morning. Mark, we will get to those talks in Iran regarding Iran in just a moment, but first, you are tracking the latest election results. Of course, the big race Texas.
>> That's right. The Texas races were one that the nation was watching. Live look over the White House. You really hard to see it this morning, Angela. It's very foggy, but right now this morning, we are tracking this major win for President Trump down in the Lone Star State ahead of the midterms. Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton with a crushing defeat to Republican Senator and incumbent John Cornyn. Only two incumbent US Senators from Texas have lost in primaries in the last 100 years.
Paxton, by the way, securing Trump's endorsement just about a week or so ago.
Now, these are the numbers, and I wanted to make sure we put these percentages on the screen as well, because it really tells the story. So, Senator Cornyn is the incumbent. He lost 63% to 36%.
President Trump's voice behind this absolutely made a difference in this race.
>> President Trump is the leader of our party and his endorsement in this most powerful is the most powerful force in politics.
And I'm honored to have his support and I look forward to working with him in the Senate to deliver for Texas.
>> Now Paxton [cheering] will face off against Democrat and Texas State Rep.
James Talorico in the general election.
Another big race down in Texas, the Attorney General's race. State Attorney Mayes Middleton will uh the won the Republican runoff race defeating US Representative Chip Roy.
Middleton seeking to replace Ken Paxton, of course, since he now has moved on.
So, a lot to track this morning.
Certainly a successful night for the Trump administration coming up ahead of those midterms just around the corner, Angela.
>> More about the results of the Texas Senate primary election. Let's bring in co-founder and executive director of Latinos for America First, Bianca Garcia. It's great to see you. As we take a look at these numbers here, working to pull those up, it shows that President Trump has grown his Latino vote turnout over the years. Do you see that trend continuing with Trump-backed candidates like now the Republican nominee Ken Paxton?
>> So, thank you so much for having me. I um am actually glad you're asking me this question. So, yes, listen, during the Trump I mean, obviously we have seen Hispanics that have never been more fired up to coming out for Trump cuz we identified so much with his policies and we overwhelmingly voted for him and it just increased the vote every year. Um I am a a little concerned though coming into these midterms that the across the nation I've been kind of, you know, um watching the uh Hispanic vote turnout right now during special elections, during midter well, primaries I mean, uh across the country and I'm not seeing the Hispanics turnout right now. They're not turning out as they did in 2016, 2020, and 2024. And so, it's very concerning for me.
>> That is an interesting point in that as we take a step back and we look at what is happening nationally, the support for Trump nationally, his poll numbers versus laser focus on taxes. I do want to talk to you about Talarico and some recent comments that he made inserting religion into his campaign. Take a listen here.
>> For me, prophetic voices like Jesus have helped me reckon with my own whiteness, my own masculinity. God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between.
God is non-binary.
>> So, Bianca, I mean, I just want to get your thoughts here because A, it's pretty unusual to have the Democratic nominee, you know, bring up religion, Christianity in this way. And then another layer here with Texas at large, how does this play for the faith-based Latino community in Texas?
>> Well, I hope he continues with that message cuz that's not going to resonate with the Hispanics, not even the Catholics or the evangelicals.
They're They're We're not going to buy into that.
So, if he continues with that message, this This is great news for Kim Paxton.
So, even with the, you know, with the falling numbers of the Latino voters showing up right now, you know, it's going to help us because they're not going to resonate with his message. They're just not. That is one thing that has helped Trump in the past from 2016 to 2020 2024 is that the the Catholics as well as the evangelicals, the faith-based community has been very revved up for Trump. I mean, we have the first time ever in the West Wing a faith office. I mean, he He can't be any more direct about where he feels and how he feels about the faith community and completely protecting religious liberties. And so, if this guy keeps talking that, you know, giving that message out, it is definitely going to turn off the Latino vote. Every Catholic and every every Hispanic, even though even though that we've been challenging this mass deportation, people think it's a mass deportation, but it isn't cuz we overwhelmingly voted for that.
>> got a few more seconds, but I just want your final thought to those saying that the chances um are looking good for Texas turning blue. And then on the other side, what you think it's going to take for Republicans to keep those votes, especially from the once Cornyn supporters. Final thought for you.
>> So, I think that, you know, I've been saying we don't have a mass deportation uh problem, we have a messaging problem.
And that's really what I've been telling the White House and uh the Republican leadership. I've been saying we have a messaging problem, we have a messaging problem. And they've been listening to me, they've been uh asking me for feedback, how do we fix this, what do we do, how do we outreach, how do we engage, and what is that messaging? I said, we just have to stick to the policies that Trump has. I mean, it's just sticking to the policies.
>> Co-founder and executive director of Latinos for America First, Bianca Garcia, thank you for joining us tonight.
>> Thank you so much.
