7686X (87605X) Worlds Robot Explanation

[00:00:00]What's up guys? I'm Caleb from 786X.

[00:00:03]Um, talk about a world's robot. It's not pushed back anymore, but we just want to make a, you know, quick reveal or sorry, explanation video just in case any team from another season want to look at it.

[00:00:12]Drivetrain right here, pretty uh, pretty casual. Blue motors, 450 RPM. Anything you want to talk about, Connor? I'll use these bands here. Definitely recommend that.

[00:00:22]Bends a little bit, but it's way better than zip ties and they're way easier to get on there. Um, obviously you got the three hole tech with the um, kind of missing center wheel. We also drilled this high strength axle.

[00:00:33]Uh, if you guys are going to drill those, I recommend using a 3D printed jig just cuz it helps out a ton for centering and stuff like that. Um, put the 3D printed jig on there and then drill with a really small bit to like kind of get your center punch hole and then um, drill with the normal like 11/64 bit and it works pretty good. Um, we have these slides on here.

[00:00:50]They didn't really work that great, but uh, we didn't get stuck on the barrier, so there's that. Uh, back here we got this tech from uh, Ziv from 5069Y. These are actually just claw parts right here.

[00:01:00]They act as the guider. They actually fit the three hole gap perfectly.

[00:01:03]Um, and then give you that little bit of guiding out to kind of repel off the goal. Um, we switched to nylon nuts for the drivetrain. Um, we used to have zip ties, but they would just fall off like a lot.

[00:01:13]And we had to keep putting them back on there, so I really recommend these nylon nuts. Um, they're just a lot more beneficial.

[00:01:18]We added these uh, mid-worlds. They don't spin very good.

[00:01:23]I should Oh, whoops. Uh, Oh, shoot.

[00:01:26]>> Down here with the camera, you know, but it's it's build quality. Uh, got the Inspire Award.

[00:01:29]>> How about the Missouri in back? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that Inspire Award at Worlds was pretty awesome. So yeah, these helped with tipping cuz our driver was tipping a lot. We tried to add slew in the code, but um, that didn't really work that well. I guess we'll move up in the world.

[00:01:42]>> Yeah, I suppose I can talk about it now Connor's done with the most boring part of the robot. Yeah. Um, pretty standard match loader at this point in the season. Gets the It has It has the rubber bands in the back. Uh, we have the funnels right here. These are just uh, thick L channels.

[00:01:55]They actually help quite a bit actually, you know, obviously funneling the balls in. We had to get really creative with the stoppers here.

[00:02:01]We We tried to code before our match was like completely finished, so we had to go back and add these stoppers so our code you know, obviously worked out.

[00:02:07]>> We had We just kept going too far in, so we had to be like millimeter precise, and that just really sucked. So, we actually added this kind of wonky stopper, but And then we also have the zip ties on there. Uh that was pretty great cuz it was just a lot low profile. And then uh drill the high strength axle. Yeah, zip ties are a lot better than the high strength uh nylon nuts. Yeah, we drilled the high strength axle for the triangle brace as well as this. Uh it's just a lot more rigid in this direction, like the twisting.

[00:02:31]It keeps it a lot more consistent.

[00:02:32]>> have triangle bracing right here, too, and obviously we use a thick axle on the side on the side. One thing you might notice is probably the worst part of the robot is our little piston. Ooh. I We didn't really know where to put it, and we were kind of procrastinating that day a little bit. We kind of just decided to put it right there, and that's I think it's a perfect position. I don't really know where else to I really would not recommend the standoff tech. Uh we put like a 6-in standoff on here, it made it a 5-in, and that just put a lot of leverage right here on the bend on the thing, so that just kept bending in. We didn't actually bend the piston, but we bent it like right where it's weak right here.

[00:03:00]And um that was not a super great choice, but it worked cuz we can mount it up here.

[00:03:05]Um front stage, we tweaked this a little bit.

[00:03:09]Um there's the gear ratio. I can't think of what it was.

[00:03:11]>> a 900 rpm.

[00:03:12]>> 900. Yeah, we tried 1,200, but it was like >> Like not enough torque to hold the balls up cuz uh with this sticker bot, it's like all vertical, and so the front stage has to hold the balls in.

[00:03:20]But we were at 900 or we were at the 1,200, and then it didn't have enough torque to actually hold the balls, and they would just kind of slide down. Mhm.

[00:03:26]Um Yeah, obviously you shove with the uh flex wheels. No, I didn't.

[00:03:29]>> Half cut flex wheels. These were really good. Connor made a or he just 3D printed a 3D printed jig, and it was so good to cut these flex wheels. I mean, you could Some of these you can barely tell that they're like we actually cut them. They just look kind of factory edge. Yeah, we used like the thin inserts, so there's still two inserts in there on on both sides, but they're just like the 8-in ones instead of the quarters like you normally use. Um these actually helped our intake so much. We were actually able to just swap out our old band roller um just straight to this instead of having to like tune it anymore. We literally just replaced the band roller with these and it worked perfectly.

[00:04:00]Um so I really recommend those. We had to get pretty creative here. We did this on our last robot, too, but I forgot to point it out in our explanation video.

[00:04:05]Um shout out Andrew, the EP of Mall in North Dakota. Uh he made us he made us a little jig. We didn't make it for us, but we got it somehow from him and um it allowed us to drill and tap the end of a high strength shaft so that we could get super low profile right there.

[00:04:18]See, that kind of scrapes a little bit, but we had to tune this quite a bit. Um it was over some four-day break and it was way too wide. So, when we were doing the match order, it just got stuck like right here cuz it was too far out. So, we had to tune and make our front stage just a little bit um thinner.

[00:04:33]Um obviously it's floating. We had to band this down cuz um I don't remember why.

[00:04:39]Oh, we just banned that down for low goal scoring cuz it low-key took forever. And also it would just jiggle instead of actually intaking the ball.

[00:04:45]So, in auto it's a lot quicker if we banned it down.

[00:04:47]Um we got this tech from 1010G, the U channel tech, and then we just ripped them on the band saw for the guiders there. Um that works pretty good cuz they're like an inch on the inside instead of 7/8 for whatever reason Vex decided to do that, but uh it works pretty damn good for that.

[00:05:02]Um then you can see we kind of um this is all just bent plastic.

[00:05:06]Uh I just CAD'd it. So, basically what I did, this stick is actually concentric as well. Most teams aren't, but ours is concentric so you can see um I can move the stick here.

[00:05:20]As the stick moves up I got it. Don't worry. Um you can see it like maintains a constant distance. I don't know if I'm doing a good job of showing it, but Yeah. Um it maintains a constant distance from this plastic right here.

[00:05:30]Um so basically in CAD all I did was put a circle right where this stick pivots right in there and just move it out uh roughly till it intersected with the goal at the top.

[00:05:38]And then um just made that for both the inside and the outside. I left a little left a little gap for the balls and then um that works pretty good. And then I just basically just CAD'd these standoffs in there like the intercepts of the circle, and then just put those in your life and um yeah, the plastic just kind of bent to where it needed to be. And then for the sides here, um we just put like flexi plates kind of bent around there.

[00:05:56]That worked pretty good. These are custom ripped. They're not like the Vex ones cuz these ones look a lot better and they're just a lot little They're a lot thinner. And they're aluminum. And they're aluminum, not steel. Um then we had to get it secured down here with that um That was fun, but it worked it worked good.

[00:06:08]>> It worked pretty good, yeah. And then we have the washers in there to kind of hold it um on there from sliding off to the inside. Um yeah.

[00:06:17]Got a tank down here. So I take the glasses from World Packing. It's pretty good. Um However, it was kind of mounted weird with this C channel and some standoffs, but uh I guess it worked. Um the S bot it's very similar to like S bot, you know, as far as the X brace kind of thing. Um it just looks a lot better, but it also gives us our our wing placement, um which is way better than most stick bots cuz it's just an S bot, basically. We mounted it vertical, so that way when it goes up, it stays in the same spot cuz if you had it angled, it would go up, but also this way, which makes like kind of the scoring really hard for our driver to do cuz you can't really predict where it's at.

[00:06:52]Uh goated uh teams on here, you know.

[00:06:54]Just a few. 1028A, you know, those guys are pretty good.

[00:07:01]Great guys. Obviously have it cuz pretty good. Um I don't I don't want to say anything. Um so um really next, our hood and our four bar. Our hood was a What team did you get this from again, Connor? Corsairs. Oh yeah, Corsairs pretty good, you know. Uh cuz we really hated how it the other uh hoods would pivot out here. Actually just be terrible. Cuz the piston it have it and you're just pulling that piston so much.

[00:07:23]This is just so much better cuz we're thinking obviously hood it just needs to collect the balls. And then maybe a little bit um support up here for so the balls can get shoved out. But yeah, if you have the one that pivots right here, then all the force from the balls when we're intaking goes straight into opening the hood, but this it just basically tugs on that pivot back there, which is super rigid. So we can reduce the pressure on our piston and have a lot less of leverage on it. This also works as a D score head um pretty well.

[00:07:48]Uh it didn't work that great. We didn't use it a ton cuz it wasn't that great, but back here it might have been a little over-engineered, but um we just threw on some vertical uh thick L channels for this middle goal liner.

[00:07:59]What did we do at Worlds? This worked pretty great. Oh, um we dropped the robot off the table.

[00:08:04]Definitely an activity of we not this kid right here, but um you can see it's still a little bent, but it works fine.

[00:08:10]>> It were It never um never did break We It never Nothing ever broke and it still would have worked. We did bend it back a little bit, but >> Maybe we'll put a picture of how bad it was.

[00:08:18]>> Yeah, we'll probably put that We used this pretty well. Um you want to talk about this? Then this we got this from Jenny. Um it's just bent like that just the tip shut off cuz just for um sizing. Just so it doesn't stick out so much. It still sticks out a little bit cuz I kind of screwed up the dimensions, but um this is just bent in a vice. People think this is really hard to bend. It's really not.

[00:08:36]Um and then I 3D printed a jig that spans from both of these holes just to make sure they were 8-in on center. Um and that just helped out when we want to put it in here cuz yeah.

[00:08:45]It's really not that hard. I kind of marred it up when I was doing it, but it worked pretty good.

[00:08:50]>> Our Pika battery mount um we kept adding zip ties throughout Worlds cuz our battery low-key came unplugged like 30 times, I swear. Like three matches it came unplugged. We don't We only lost like one of them cuz of it, but um we used to add zip ties.

[00:09:04]Um Uh anything else really? I don't think so. There's nothing really special about our wing wing liners. Cool. Super mega long uh again bent plastic from Actobotics.

[00:09:14]Uh pretty pretty goated, I guess.

[00:09:17]Um we added these standoffs cuz we low-key got stuck on the goal in like our practice match or something.

[00:09:22]No, I think it was It was probably a real match. You have stickers on it. We ripped all these stickers off. Get good quality stickers so that way they stay on the robot, you know? Like these are these are good ones that survived.

[00:09:30]Uh some of them didn't. And then yeah.

[00:09:32]Bent plastic tech was so key peachy. And um Other than that, I think that's it.
