Waymo expanding service area in Houston ahead of World Cup

[00:00:00]Just 24 hours after Waymo announced a pretty significant recall of its driverless cars, the company today says they're expanding service across Houston. Waymo will now cover 50 square miles, doubling their existing footprint here in the city. New neighborhoods they'll be reaching include Eado, the Med Center, Northeast Houston, and the expansion also includes NRG Stadium just weeks before the World Cup is set to arrive. All of this means more driverless cars in more Houston neighborhoods with millions of visitors expected soon. Now, the timing of this expansion and announcement kind of interesting here. We first reported yesterday Waymo is recalling nearly 3,800 of its autonomous vehicles after one of the Waymos, unoccupied at the time, drove into a flooded roadway in San Antonio last month. It's just the latest hiccup in major cities where Waymo has expanded earlier this year.
