Paper 1 Reaction + Predictions for Paper 2 - A Level Maths 2026

[00:00:00]Hey guys, I hope you guys are doing well.

[00:00:02]I know it's a day late. I was so tired yesterday I could not lie, but I wanted to make this video anyway.

[00:00:08]First and foremost, congratulations on paper one yesterday.

[00:00:12]It's been a day now, so you've obviously seen the paper. You've discussed it amongst yourselves and everything.

[00:00:17]I thought it was a pretty tricky paper, so I did a poll on the channel and over 50% of people said it was awful and I've obviously spoken to you guys as well.

[00:00:24]So, what I'm going to do in this video is I'm going to run through it very very quickly because obviously you guys have seen the paper anyway or seen the questions, so I think the first couple of questions were okay. I'm looking at it now.

[00:00:34]First was graph transformations, pretty standard. Then next was iteration. You got standard differentiation for question three. And then question four was domain and range, right? I think for domain and range it can be a bit tricky sometimes, but this was a pretty easy question.

[00:00:48]And [snorts] then we had parametrics very early on, which I haven't really seen before, but I don't think it's too bad. Some modeling question, etc. And then question six was just integration, logarithmic integration, and then we had a couple of tricky parts.

[00:01:02]Question nine, the trig identity, the limit of limit of integration as a sum.

[00:01:08]Uh for by parts as well. I'm looking at it. So, there was a there was a couple tricky parts. I'm looking at the What do we have? We've got differential equations as well, which I thought would be a paper two actually. And we've got this geometric sequences and series with trig. And then we've got the last one, proof by contradiction, which I actually found out today is a mad ass question.

[00:01:28]Literally the exact same. So, if you did your mad ass questions, then you may have seen that. But yeah, overall definitely a tricky paper, not a straightforward one at all. So, don't be too hard on yourself. And obviously what I will say just briefly as well is the general consensus is that it was a tricky paper. A lot of people found it tricky, so don't be too hard on yourself. And obviously that may be reflected in the grade boundaries, but obviously we've got to see what what they throw at you guys for paper two and obviously paper three. So, yeah, what should you what should you be doing now? Revise everything that hasn't come up and there's been quite a bit.

[00:02:02]So, I've made a I've made a list of topics which I'll put in the description. If I miss anything out there, let me know.

[00:02:07]But, there were circles that didn't come up. Integration by substitution I didn't really see like a direct explicit one.

[00:02:14]Binomial expansion didn't come up. Sigma notation, arithmetic sequences and series, maybe they could combine the two topics and put a question on that. There was no implicit differentiation which is definitely going to come up. in paper two. I shouldn't say definitely considering what happened last year.

[00:02:28]But, proof obviously proof by contradiction came up but not the other types of proofs. There was no vectors. So, you should be expecting a vectors question in um in paper two. Logs, I don't think I saw any logs from what I just saw just now.

[00:02:42]No long division, no factor theorem, no small angle approximations, no differentiation from first principles, no trapezium rule, no logarithm modeling, no discriminant. So, yeah, quite a bit of topics didn't come up.

[00:02:53]Year 12 integration just the power that didn't come up from what I saw. I need to check it again, but I'll put these topics in the description. And yeah, just focus on those topics and then um you should be fine. You should be fine.

[00:03:06]So, what am I going to do now? So, hopefully by the weekend I should have my predicted paper two ready.

[00:03:14]I've done about eight questions out of 15. I'm going to film the next seven in the next couple of days. I also got to do the GCSE ones for paper three as well cuz they had their paper two yesterday, didn't they? So, um a bit to do for me.

[00:03:25]I'm going to do some more TikToks as well actually because now I've run out.

[00:03:28]So, yeah, I was actually going to say with the 100 day series that I did, any topics that didn't come up, the ones that I just stated, just have a look at the series, the playlist if you're on YouTube or Instagram or TikTok, and then you should be able to watch those and that should be okay. But, there will definitely be more from me as well. But, yeah, let me know how you guys are feeling.
