Secrecy, allegations cloud B.C. Conservative leadership race ahead of vote

[00:00:00]Good evening and thank you for joining us. We begin tonight with secrecy and confusion surrounding the BC Conservatives leadership race. CJDC TV News has learned the party was considering an investigation into leadership hopeful Caroline Finlay. It comes only one day before members are set to vote to choose the next leader.

[00:00:20]The party conducted an emergency meeting about the situation today. Party insiders were considering eliminating Finlay from the race. The allegations stem from Finlay's time as a member of parliament according to a social media post. Allegations that she received approximately $75,000 in services from an unknown company.

[00:00:43]Elections Canada is currently looking into allegations and whether she promised federal contracts in exchange.

[00:00:50]Party insiders we talked to worried that kicking her out of the race after it has begun will shatter the conservative caucus. Then this afternoon the party releases a statement saying Finlay will remain in the race. Finlay's campaign manager says she denies the allegations. Chris Dyson goes on to say they have not received any notice of investigation by Elections Canada. Dyson says we believe that the allegations are a political hit piece on Mrs. Finlay at a most sensitive juncture the day before ballots are issued.
