In political party primaries, the selection of candidates through consensus rather than direct voting can undermine democratic processes and lead to disputes among party members, as demonstrated by the NDC FCT Senatorial Primary controversy where Aisha Yesufu was replaced by Amanda Pan despite her grassroots campaigning efforts.

Justice for Aisha Yesufu | Was the NDC FCT Senatorial Primary Fair?Added:
Justice for Aisha Yusuf.
Justice for Aisha Yusuf.
The NDC primaries have come and gone.
And um it went well overall.
But there is something disturbing.
You guys will understand that I made a video uh previously where I urged Peter Obi and um NDC as a party to try and deliver Aisha Yesufu and Peter for Nigeria for Senate and um you know, House of Rep respectively.
Now, uh one request was granted.
One was declined. [clears throat] Because Aisha Yesufu I won't say lost.
So, this woman is called Amanda Pam.
She's a barrister. Barrister Amanda Enyabode Austin Peters Pam.
Um she's a well-known woman though in Abuja. But considering the age, I think this is not a right choice.
Now, she's a Nigerian lawyer and a politician based in FCT, Abuja.
71 years old. As you can see the picture on the screen.
So, flyers are flying already. She will be uh she's NDC's senatorial candidate for FCT, Abuja in the 2027 general election over Aisha Yesufu.
Now, I'm saying this because the deed is done already. It cannot be changed.
Um but before I say that, Peter for Nigeria won his primaries, okay?
Um let's watch.
Okay now you see what happened.
Peter won in the primaries because primaries was conducted.
Now, Aisha Yesufu, when she took the, you know, form expression of form expression of interest for I don't know what they call it.
Um she thought it's going to be primaries as usual.
So, she was busy doing the grassroot campaign in FCT, Abuja, believing that when the primaries come proper, people are going to queue up polling unit by polling unit, ward by ward to vote their, you know, candidate that will represent them uh for uh FCT senatorial seat come 2027.
But, instead um a consensus was was made and this woman was affirmed as the NDC senatorial candidate for FCT in 2027.
There was no election.
And you see um Aisha Yesufu is a very strong woman.
We all know her, okay? Very If you don't know Aisha Yesufu, it means um you are not a social media person.
Okay, her videos cut across almost every, you know, sectors, activism, religion. In fact, she's she's versatile. And I believe that she could have been a better option to challenge, you know, this FCT senatorial seat.
Because we're talking about a candidate that would go against APC candidate, that would go against PDP, that would go against ADC in FCT.
So, Aisha Yesufu could have been a better option.
Because this coming 2027 election is going to be APC versus the people.
Somehow, so a candidate that could challenge APC is only a candidate that the people loves.
I know this is politics. I know this is party, you know, consensus or whatever.
They have their own reason.
But I believe that Aisha Yusuf could have been a better choice over this woman.
Okay? Now, uh to tell you that she is not happy.
When she confirmed that there's going to be a consensus, not primaries, not direct primaries, uh in choosing, you know, the NDC senatorial candidate for FCT, uh she posted this video on X.
Now, this video was, I think, 2:00 a.m.
on 29 morning, the day of the primaries.
So, the aspirant went to I don't know the man behind or the voice behind the camera, but I believe it's a top, you know, NDC official. They went to his house trying to know how the primaries would go for House of Rep and for Senate. And he said, I quote him, that for House of Rep members, they should go to the field and contest, okay? Do their primaries, and, you know, if they win, fine. If they lose, fine.
But for the Senate seat, they have anointed list.
And Aisha Yusuf um was not one of the favorites. so they choose this woman over Aisha Yesufu. So she she took to her you know ex account and posted this you know three page. And if you read this three page you will find out that with the tone of that of her voice she is not happy. Okay? So you can see Aisha Yesufu on the record NDC primaries a better Abuja is inevitable.
Okay? She's going to run in 2020 as you can see here. So this page contain different paragraphs you can see why I run the campaign we built. Okay?
Now in the next page she talked about the process which is where I want to pay attention. She talked about the process that wasn't. Now these are her words.
She said What was built as a primary was in truth a predetermined outcome dressed in procedural formalities.
The primaries were repeatedly postponed venues were changed at the last minute guidelines of the party were not followed.
Delegates based process was introduced to be conducted at the central location instead of a direct primaries to be conducted at local government headquarters. These are her words. Okay?
Now when the moment came the context was not decided by delegates in the open. It was affirmed in the closed room away from the people whose voices it was supposed to reflect.
The party was indeed go on to release the party will indeed go on to release statements upon statements about the free and fair nature of Abuja FCT primaries.
They are entitled to their voices, but the fact that transpired when litigated by conscience and the guidelines of the electoral act do not reflect justice and fairness. So, if you listen to the tone of her voice, she is not happy.
Okay? She is not happy. That is just one thing you would take from her words here. And at the end of the day, at least I was pleased that when it's time to talk about NDC, he said for now, despite its shortcomings, the NDC remains the only party that has given the better presidential candidate in the 2027 electoral cycle a platform to run.
To everyone within the party working to make this possible, I'm grateful.
Transformation does not come from outside alone. It must also be fought for within. Now, that is just a recap. You can see it was duly signed by Aisha Yesufu, former FCT senatorial aspirant 2027.
Okay? So, this was kind of uh a bow note. But if you listen um to the tone of her voice, she's not happy. And I will leave this, you know, three pages um in the comment section. I'll leave a link there. You can follow me on X. If you're not on Twitter, go ahead and follow me. And uh follow me on YouTube also. Links on this page. Just go ahead and follow. So, that is That was uh what played. And uh I believe that she'll be able to come off it and give Peter Obi her full support as usual. Because right now, she is deeply disappointed. That is just what you can't you can't take from this video. She's disappointed. She's depressed somehow. She don't believe her eyes. But, this is politics. Why NDC chose a 71-year-old woman over the person of Aisha Yesufu is what I don't understand. I know that they are not going to explain anything.
They don't owe owe us any explanation.
But, together can make it, you know, come 2027. Aisha, this is for you. Just um take heart.
You've learned a lot of lessons, just like you said here.
And 2031 if life permits, we'll be here to support you again.
Peace out.
