The Louisiana House of Representatives introduced an amended congressional redistricting bill that would eliminate one of two majority minority districts and give Republicans a five-to-one advantage in congressional seats; the bill passed the Senate last week and is now in the House Governmental Affairs Committee for review, with potential litigation expected if approved, as some representatives view it as a partisan power grab while others argue it ensures fair representation for all citizens regardless of party affiliation.

La. House introduces amended version of congressional map bill. What happens next?Added:
the house introduced the maps to restructure the state's congressional districts. The bill passed through House and Governmental Affairs last week. This is Joe Collins explains what happens next.
Yes, Sylvia, the new congressional map would eliminate one of the two majority minority districts in the state. It would also give Republicans a five to one advantage over Democrats as far as congressional seats.
Monday night, the State House of Representatives convened to introduce bills and resolutions from last week.
One of those bills is the redistricting of the state congressional maps spearheaded by Republican Senator Jay Morris. Report from House and Governmental Affairs, Senate Bill 121 with amendments. So be it, chair, that Senate Bill be referred to the bureau.
The session's timing, with it being a national holiday, came as a surprise to several representatives. I was, but but I mean, again, this process has been anything but normal. The speed of it is actually telling us something that they need to move this bill forward. The bill passed the Senate last week, then moved to the House Governmental Affairs Committee with a small amendment which makes changes to what parishes were in each district. The committee approved those changes before sending it to the House Monday evening. Tomorrow, it'll be read in again as part of the course, and we'll we'll be planning to either hear it on either Wednesday or Thursday of this week, more than likely.
Uh that hasn't been said, but we'll that'll probably that decision will probably be made um you know, within the next 24 hours, if I had to if I had to say if I had to say if I had Representative Marcel told WBRZ that she believes the redistricting is a power grab by Republicans. That's exactly what the author said. We just want all of the representation. If we can get all of the representation, the question becomes is that fair to all of the people in Louisiana, whether you no party or you Democrat?
I don't believe that's fair. But the map isn't set in stone just yet. Now, the Senate has some couple things that they would like to see different with the version that we passed out of the committee. so now we're working with the Senate and trying to, you know, get the bill in in a proper fashion where we can have house members support and Senate support on the bill.
Representative Marcel tells me that she believes there is absolutely going to be litigation if the congressional map is approved. Sylvia? All right, Joe Collins.
