Former President Goodluck Jonathan's potential return to politics for the 2027 elections represents a significant political development, as his candidacy could reshape the balance of power between Nigeria's major political parties (APC and PDP) and address voter apathy by offering a familiar democratic leadership figure who previously served one term, thereby potentially restoring hope among Nigerian youth who have been calling for his return.

BREAKING: 2027- Jonathan ready to jump in, tells the youth, I've heard your callAjouté :
[music] >> All right, there is a breaking news reaching our studio right now that our former president, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, is ready to jump in.
Goodluck Jonathan is ready, but he just said more consultation that he has had the voices of the youth who are made up of about 80% young people calling him to come and contest. He actually said, "I don't know how old you were when I was president, but for you to now come to be calling me to contest is something I am ready to look into." So, he is ready to look into this. He is ready to jump in. And are we looking at imminent announcement of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan saying, "Here I am once again.
Send me."
Yeah, if you see the video, you will see that you see there's a preparedness in the man's face and the speech he made. You see, this has been off and on. I remember you said that in 2015 2019 Jonathan we had a Jonathan was coming.
He never came. In 2023, we had a Jonathan was coming. He never came. Will it be the same thing in 2027? The answer is yet to be discovered. But today today because last week Peter Obi went around some key leader in the country. And the first person he visited was President former President Goodluck Jonathan I believe and and they had you know he had to have discussion. The outcome of discussion was not made known to the public but they had a discussion and Peter Obi said they discussed issues that affects the country. But the youth of this country and we were many Nigerians had not stopped you know calling on Goodluck Jonathan to come back because why is the call persistent? Because the only time Nigerians know what is a good democratic system of government is the time of you know Musa Yar'Adua and Jonathan that you see resemblance of democracy. These are and that was when you see people their educational background, their is well known to the public. Jonathan was a lecturer, Yar'Adua Musa was a lecturer and Jonathan was a doctorate holder and it's everywhere you can ascertain, you can go and search, verify whatever you want to verify. So, for the first time in [clears throat] a very long while Jonathan had made a speech. People had criticized him that why is he not speaking?
Let's look at the fraction of that speech. So, before we continue the the discussion. Can we see the fraction of that video from Arise TV?
country, you must participate in the electoral process.
Yes, you have asked me to come and contest the next elections.
Presidential race is not a computer game.
But I've heard you and I will consult widely.
But the most important thing is in Nigeria that the young people will have hope.
A Nigeria that will plan for uh All right, in that speech he talked about many things. We don't have time.
Maybe if we have time we can show the full length later. He talked about many things. Talked about patriotism. He talked about Japa. He talked about voter apathy. You know, he talked about the peace of the nation being paramount in anything. Even in his final, you know, decision to say, "Okay, I'm ready for for this contest."
Let's not go political. Let me not ask of political party or things like that.
Let's come to the patriotism he talked about. He said those who are patriotic, they remain here and build with us.
Those who are not patriotic, they take our money, they go abroad and things like that. He said, "But for you, the young ones, you are ready for this." And he also said that Nigerians is the country with one of the lowest voter turnout among the 14 about 14 other countries of Africa that he has gone to monitor election that in some cases two occasions.
What do you think is responsible for Nigerians' lack of patriotism and also voter apathy, you know, when it comes to election? You know, he's very clear. He said irresponsible government is number one issue that had made Nigeria to be unpatriotic about the affairs of this country. And now, when you talk about, you know, the low the low turnout of voters and voter apathy, it's very clear because the the issues that surround the electoral system or electoral process has shown over the years that they are always biased. They always, you know, do the bidding of those who are in power. And this is not doesn't go that way with the people. For instance, in 2023, for the first time, people went and registered and came out to vote. And they voted and they all their effort were conquered by >> looking at 2027, let's let's let's find those uh Jonathan.
If Jonathan declares now officially, because it appears to be imminent from from this speech. If he declares today, what will be APC's response? You know, the other time they have told Jonathan, "The best is to quit when the ovation is loudest. The best is to enjoy your retirement. The best is to go people you were people under you were corrupt, blah blah blah." But we didn't know that Jonathan's time it appears to be sent time because the kind of level of corruption we are seeing now is unprecedented. What do you think is going to be APC's response if Jonathan officially declares, which appears to be imminent? You see, Jonathan need to prove me wrong. This is not the first time it's imminent that Jonathan is going to declare, but he never declared.
Yeah. Starting from 2029 2019 till date.
Mhm. Don't forget, just last week here, Jonathan visited the president. If he proves you wrong, what do you think APC is going to do?
>> So, if he proves me wrong, APC will go after whatever that is left in Jonathan's uh uh you know, skeleton.
Because that is their style. If If in fact, if Jonathan declares that he's running, that platform will be on fire.
Because the APC government, don't forget in the last uh last episode, I told you that Wike had burst of saying that Obi is going to wait for the state. He just because he has found out that for the first time since he has assumed the position of the de facto uh uh this second president or vice or the speaker or the minister of information or the presidency for the first time it's dawned on him that all that they have put in place to ensure that there's no other presidential candidate, it's becoming clear that Obi is finding a place to run. And if Jonathan now declare that he's running from another platform, and don't forget, these two person, Jonathan and and Obi, they have said they will not run against themselves.
>> Yes. If Jonathan declares, that means Obi ambition will be lower. Yes. So, it it That's why I said Jonathan need to prove me wrong. Whatever platform Jonathan declare, APC will go after that platform and they will set it up. But I but I I can almost tell you that if Jonathan declares today [music] and pick a platform, if APC goes after that platform, Jonathan has international connection. Unlike it's not like this one. Jonathan was a former president. He He might That might spell doom for us because there has to be election come 2027. And the person that I see Wike will be contesting is not going to be who Wike present. Because Wike just want to present uh a PDP official.
>> Are you saying that Jonathan is going to come under the platform of PDP?
>> No, I'm just giving an example. If he chooses PDP No, because you said he's not going to be person we can present.
>> Yes. So, uh if if if He's still a member of PDP. He has never resigned his membership.
He has resigned. But, today uh Wike does not have that strong voice in PDP because we have to be very frank and be realistic. The Supreme Court had given judgment. Whether they decide to keep the certified true copy uh back from the public, there's a judgment.
>> There is a judgment. and make it public.
There was a public pronouncement in court that the expulsion or the suspension of Senator Samuel and that of stands. And whatever action they took during the pendency of the suspension is a nullity. And so, therefore, those name recognized by INEC is a nullity. I'm wondering why INEC has not exposed those name from their website. So, therefore, Wike has not any power to present any candidate like you already said he's not going to be. So, but the the the question So, here is that will Jonathan run? If Jonathan run because what he said was that I've heard you.
Presidential election is not a computer game. Because it's not a computer game, you need to He said he need to consult widely. But, as for what I saw in that video, there's already a consultation. I saw his right-hand man Peter Odili standing by him and some other men. You see, so and you've also remember that Professor Jerry Gana had told the north that you asked me to bring Jonathan. I am bringing Jonathan to you. So, what consultation Jonathan doesn't need any consultation. All he need to say that I am ready.
>> and the country will go behind it.
>> Okay, now let's talk about parties slightly before we look at that video again.
What if for any reason because this time we've never seen the kind of opposition being in disarray like this in our politics. This time is about having a platform that is free of rankle. PDP is as it is yes, it's naturally free of rankle if not that we have you know, judiciary trying to play a game. I I know why the CTC is not out. So, but if Jonathan for any reason chooses another party say for example Peter Obi stepping down in NDC and Jonathan going there.
Mind you, Saraki doesn't is this national leader of NDC. Will APC go after NDC and how will they go after NDC? Like you said, APC that like you see, they say those the gods will kill will first make mad. They will go after NDC once this In fact, what make you think they are not even after NDC now that Peter Obi is there? They will not join them. They will go after NDC, but that will be their doom.
Because they will not listen to the You see the the beating of the sound of the drum, they will not listen to it until they will dance into the bush.
The only reason The only thing that is good for them is to allow politics to be played If you lose, you go. If you win, They allow you to go home. their platform to run. All right, let's look at that video one one more time. Let's look at that video one more time.
My children, my brothers and my sisters, first and foremost, uh let me welcome you to my office in Abuja here and thank you for showing interest in your country.
If you have no of voters.
I think I need to do something about it.
Need to study it, get consultants to look at it, and what is the cause I think in the electoral process.
Yes, you have asked me to come and contest the next elections.
Presidential race is not a computer game.
But I've heard you and I will consult widely.
But most important thing is in Nigeria that the young people will have hope.
In Nigeria that we All right. Jonathan's candidacy brings a lot of things to the entire Nigeria and bring certain things to the north, especially the the guarantee that the president is going to serve just one tenure. You know, constitutionally he can only serve one more tenure. That will be to be is can only be by promise and they'll be being a gentleman to serve just one more tenure. That helps the north to still retain that balance of power, you know, eight years south, eight years north, you know, if if it's if he jumps in. But to Nigeria as a country, it gives us the opportunity to see somebody we know already. We know his ways, we know his character. As a matter of fact, he was a very good democratic president. So many people call him weak.
Maybe they were used to military style of of governance. So when we see democracy we say he's weak. You know, so we know him, we know what he's going to do. We We know that he listens too. He was the first person that attempted removing subsidy, but he weighed the fact that section 14 of the constitution talks about, you know, having the welfare of the people and their security being paramount. You have to think of how will the people survive even even though you want them to be economically vibrant, but they need to be alive in order to do business or do anything. He listens. You know, he has never gone all the way like once it's done, it's done. Once task law is out, whether the task law is a fake or it was forged or people are raising alarm on anything, it's done, it's done.
He listens.
What will his candidacy be to Nigeria?
You see, Jonathan's candidacy mean a lot of things to Nigeria and to a lot of people. For instance, the north which we should start from. You see, it's an opportunity for the northerners to prove to Jonathan to tell Jonathan that we are sorry, that we know that you you meant good for us, but we misunderstood you. Now we know better. So, we are returning you so that you can continue the good work you started. For instance, there are a number of children that I that's the problem with him. You know, he started you know, harvesting them from the street and putting them in school so that they can be productive to themselves. So, and and again, like you rightly pointed out, Jonathan presidency is clear. It's for a one-term man. So, and everybody knew Jonathan to be a man and he's a perfect gentleman. Other than that, Jonathan is result-oriented. We know we can is the the results are there. Everybody has his report card that when Jonathan was this cardinal he did a lot of things.
They claim that those were his projects that he just merely completed and commissioned. And there's also proof that when he was in office, when he was saddled with the responsibility of running this country, that was when our economy was as as as we were the fastest growing economy as a government. We were not we were not owing any debts. There were in fact there were savings that some persons in both in and out of fashion and I am making that fashion and I am making that statement to take him to God. So, we were president. He squandered the wealth Jonathan wanted to save for the people.
So, everyone Jonathan had the the track record. And the international community in to to boost it all had confidence in him. All right, we might continue that discussion when we come back. So, we'll be
