This track, Planetary Billiards, was inspired by one of Red Dwarf's weirdest ideas, white holes.
In the episode called White Hole, time doesn't just slow down, it runs backwards, or more strangely, it runs randomly.
Now, this sounds completely absurd, I know, but in general relativity, white holes are actually a real theoretical solution. They're basically the opposite of black holes. Nothing can go in, only out.
Even Stephen Hawking [music] talked about them.
He and other theoretical physicists describe white holes as [music] a region of space-time which cannot be entered from the outside, although matter and light escape from [music] it. So, yeah, Red Dwarf turns this into chaos and comedy, but underneath it, there's a real idea.
