[00:00:00]In 1637, a French mathematician named Pierre de Fermat scribbled a note in the margin of a book. He had discovered something extraordinary, he wrote. A proof so elegant it would change mathematics forever. But the margin, he added, was too narrow to contain it. Then he died.

In 1986, a Princeton professor named Andrew Wiles decided to try, but told no one.
