NZ: High pressure for much of the country: 10 day outlookAdded:
C. Hello. It's Thursday, the 30th of April. Thank you for joining me as we take an extended look at New Zealand's forecast because, as you're about to see, there's not a lot happening over the next week and a half. So, we don't have a weather video tomorrow, Friday, because there's not much to update you on. So, let's have a look and see what's going on at the moment. For Thursday, we've got this weak cold front passing over the Chattam Islands, sliding up the eastern side of the North Island, and a slightly cooler air flow with that. But quickly behind it, a lot of high pressure that is moving in and is going to keep things pretty settled for the next week and a half. So, here's how it looks going into this evening. High pressure both sides of the South Island and the cooler air flow around the Chattam Islands and moving up into eastern parts of the North Island. So, there could be some fog around tonight, but more likely perhaps around the South Island with the lighter winds. As we go into Friday, uh foggy areas, as I say, possible through inland areas or coastal areas. Wherever there isn't much wind, you got a chance of fog basically going into Friday. High pressure, very strong, 1039. I'm pretty sure that's the most powerful high pressure zone we've had so far this year. Uh that's normal as we go into the colder months to get these bigger highs stretching all the way back to Australia where they've got warm northerlys. We've got easterlys at the top of New Zealand and a very light westerly in the south. Going into Saturday, maybe a shower around Northland with those east to southeast winds, foggy areas in the morning, low cloud and that uh around both of the main islands and there could be a few showers around Fjordland. Not much to talk about though as we go through the weekend with all of this high pressure pushing away. The wind which is south of New Zealand and north of us and east and west of us. We've got the light winds, fog patches, morning cloud, maybe a shower in Northland, maybe a shower in Fjordland. As we go into next week, high pressure firmly over the top of New Zealand. No change really in the forecast except in the very lower South Island. northwesterly winds starting to develop as the main high pressure center drifts a little further eastwards. We've got this other low uh stormy one going into Bass Strait in Australia, but for now because of this high that's uh not really coming towards us as you're going to see it sort of falls apart here. So we've got on Tuesday a line of thunderstorms convergence that's out at sea that could start to brush for Yordland by the middle of next week. So that's really about it. As you can see there's really little to talk about.
Couple of showers still in Northland.
The other feature here on Tuesday with the high out over the Chattam Islands, northwesterly winds from the lower North Island right down to Stewart Island. So that will lift temperatures up. And to some degree, this is subtropical. Well, it is sub subtropical. So warmer weather is coming through, but there could still be foggy areas where the winds are light. By the middle of next week, this is a different map. So we were showing you the European modeling. This is now the American one. So there's a little bit of a a disconnect between Tuesday and Wednesday, but the wet weather still lining up in the middle of the Tasmin Sea. New Zealand still mostly dry. High pressure still the main feature.
Thursday, uh, as we go into the end of next week, the highs moving out to the east, still pretty strong at 10:37.
Winintry blast coming into Australia. So they've got some showers, much colder air for them, but we've got the subtropical weather coming down in some regions. So it's not going to be cold in most places. Um a few showers in the north could spread down to Cormandal.
Otherwise, it's a dry day as we go through next week. A dry day on Thursday, that is. And by the end of next week, the high still out to the east. Not much change around the country. West westerly winds here and there. You can see this low uh trying to leave Australia. But as we go to our final map here, Saturday of next week, it looks stuck uh like a wheel stuck in the mud around Bass Strait, around Tasmania, Victoria, we've got high pressure. Some of those showers that were out in the Tasmin Sea move in to the West Coast. Not doing a huge amount, though. It's still mainly dry. And in fact, the 15-day forecast doesn't look a lot different to what I've just shown you. So, u not a lot going on around New Zealand. So, enjoy it. Enjoy the sunny weather or if you like the foggy mornings, all that sort of stuff.
Certainly will be dry in most regions over the next week and a half. Uh, no video tomorrow, Friday for obvious reasons. I'll see you again on Monday.
