Extended heat waves occur when high pressure systems persist for multiple days, preventing overnight cooling and maintaining temperatures 5-10°F above average; the marine layer provides temporary coastal cooling but dissipates as the day progresses, requiring outdoor activities to be scheduled during early morning or late evening hours for safety.

Marina Jurica’s NEXT Weather forecast
Added:We are going through our own >> Yes.
>> extreme. We are going to see some for us extreme hot, hot weather and it's going to last for at least 6, 7 days. Then we might get a couple of days off before then once again we see a lot of heat.
And so it is a long duration heat wave.
Please folks, the trouble is is that we're not only going to see hot temperatures during the day, but it's not cooling off overnight. We're in the 70s this morning and we can see a little bit of fog downtown LA behind me here.
And that fog will just continue to pop in as we head forward. So just keep that in mind as we move into the rest of the day. So sunrise today is at 5:57 and that's when things are really going to start to get hot. Sunset is at 8:01. So if you have things to do for long periods of time outdoors, you want to get that run in, that walk in, do it early in the morning or later on in the evening. That is going to be your best bet by far. So last day that we've got a little bit of an onshore push and remnants of that tropical system that was out in the Pacific worked its magic a bit with the onshore flow so that we could get a little bit of a marine layer this morning. So we can see that pretty much through Ventura County and then into the South Bay, downtown LA, and then just a touch heading into some of our northern Orange County beaches.
We've got a little bit of that marine layer, but otherwise that's it and we are going to be mostly sunny very quickly as we push forward into the rest of the day. And so that sunshine is going to really help those temperatures pop as we push forward. Gorgeous view of Malibu as that sun is starting to come up and you can see that cloud deck right there. The further north you go, it does get a little bit thicker especially once you head out onto the Pacific, but it is going to be a very lacking marine layer as we push forward into the weekend. So temps right now were supposed to be in the upper 50s and low 60s and so we're 10 degrees warmer than we should be in the overnight. And so especially for those homes that don't have air conditioning, our build these and buildings in our bodies are just not having time to cool down because our overnights are so warm in the 70s across the bulk of our area. We've got a little bit of mid to upper 60s, but it's going to warm up fast, especially as that sun comes up. So, heat advisory today through Monday, peak heat on Thursday and Friday this week, but still triple digits going to be riding the wave all the way through the early part of next week. And we're going to remain about 5 to 10° above average both at night and at day as we head into the extended forecast. So, there's that heat advisory not only for today, but all the way through Monday for the bulk of our region. Really only excludes the sliver along the coast. And then high temperatures today, excuse [clears throat] me, 101 in Riverside, 98 in San Bernardino, 104 up in Palmdale, 103 in Van Nuys, 80° in LAX. And it's not going to get cooler for the LA and OC metro as we move into the weekend. We're talking upper 80s, low 90s, mostly sunny skies, very, very little in the way of a marine layer that's going to be affecting even our coastal regions as we push forward. But today, we've got that marine layer and the LA metro area is going to be cloudy this morning, and then we'll start to see sunshine by about 11:00, and then it'll be sunny the rest of the day with 74 and the Inland Empire lots of sunshine already, 70 at 6:00 a.m. and 77 at 9:00. So, high pressure is dominating. It's flexing its muscles.
It's going to be with us for a very long period of time. And you can see that it is dominating pretty much the entire western half of the United States. So, it's going to set up shop, it's going to flex its muscles, and it's going to stay hot into the weekend and the early part of next week. We might get a little bit of a break by Tuesday, Wednesday, but then it looks like high pressure moves back into place, and then we get another heat wave late next week. So, unfortunately, it looks like we're going to end out July on a very hot note. So, upper 80s, low 90s all the way through the stretch and you can see Tuesday we do get a little bit of relief and we start to get a touch warmer. And then for the valleys triple digits rule all the way until Tuesday as well. And then for the Inland Empire really hot. So, anywhere from 105 to 106 and then moving into 98 by Tuesday. So, we're just going to have to stay safe out there and make sure that especially as we are out and about we are staying hydrated.
