Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric conditions to predict precipitation, temperature, and severe weather events. Low pressure systems that move eastward can bring heavy rain, storms, and flash flooding, particularly during afternoon and evening hours. Summer weather patterns often include brief afternoon showers with minimal disruption, while severe weather events require monitoring for damaging winds and flooding risks.

First Alert Weather: Sun and some clouds Sunday in New York - 6/20/26
Added:Well, time now for a check on the first alert forecast. Vanessa Murdock, we've got a big day tomorrow. We've got Yankee baseball, we've got US Open golf, and oh yeah, that Father's Day thing.
>> I mean, we are awash with exciting activities, and the forecast couldn't be any brighter. To wrap the weekend, also seasonably warm tomorrow. Let's check out your first alert weather headlines.
We are talking about, of course, Father's Day and the fact it's looking good for Dad and all of those activities happening around the tri-state area.
There is the chance of a stray afternoon shower, but it's a minimal chance.
Nothing to worry about as far as plans, because it'll be quick moving and very light if it does pass by. Now, different story on Monday. It's a first alert weather day Monday. We're tracking heavy rain, storms. Some could be strong or severe bringing damaging wind. We're also going to be watching out for flash flooding. Of course, tonight we're dry.
It is gorgeous out there. Temperatures essentially range from, oh, 56 in Liberty. We have 72 right now in the West Village. And we're looking out to the island, 70 in Massapequa, 62 in Westhampton. Moving forward in your first alert forecast, let's talk about what you can expect for Father's Day, shall we? We are looking at a gorgeous day out there tomorrow. We're going to kick off the day, 9:00 a.m., 72° and sunny. By midday, it's 78° and partly cloudy. And then partly cloudy and 81° at 5:00. It's about a 10% chance of that passing shower tomorrow afternoon for us. High temperatures around the region, we're going to hit that 83° mark in the park. 79° for Bay Shore, 81° in Poughkeepsie. Heading more to the south, say 86° tomorrow in Toms River. And we have a low risk of rip currents at all of our ocean beaches, which is phenomenal. Overhead right now, we do have a few clouds, especially to the south, but that's, you know, par for the course, no big deal. As we widen the view, I want to show you what's on route for Monday. It's this area of low pressure that will trek to the east, pick up moisture as it does so, and dump on us Monday, especially through the afternoon and evening. So, hour by hour in your First Alert Futurecast model, let's talk about summer starts, right? A 4-day break tomorrow, then as we hit sunrise and beyond, it's a sun-filled start, more clouds in the afternoon.
Here's that very spotty chance of a shower, and then things dwindle. By Monday morning, the clouds are thick. By midday, we're tracking showers, maybe some storms moving, especially north of the city, and then we are looking at that front passing, 4:00 Monday. As people are starting to make their way home from work, we have some of the most powerful action we anticipate for your First Alert weather day moving through between the hours of say 2:00 and 6:00 as it tracks to the east, we'll be looking out for localized flooding and that possibility of damaging wind. As we look at your Tuesday, some lingering shower action into the picture early Tuesday morning, then skies clear by afternoon. Here's your First Alert 7-day forecast. Tomorrow, 83°. Looking great for Dad. Monday, First Alert weather day, 75°. The clouds are thick. The wet weather is impactful, especially for the afternoon and evening hours. Then Tuesday morning showers gives way to afternoon sun. It's a high of 80.
Perfect Wednesday, 83° with sun. 82 on Thursday, maybe a shower. It's looking minimal. Friday though, another chance for storms as humidity levels crank up, and next Saturday, overall, looking pretty good. Back to you, Dick.
>> And tomorrow looking gorgeous as we like gorgeous as we like to say. All right, thanks, Vanessa.
