Political leaders may demand colonial reparations not primarily for economic justice, but as a strategic tool to maintain political power when facing electoral challenges, as demonstrated by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's renewed calls for reparations amid declining ANC poll numbers and changing global dynamics.

Cyril Ramaphosa Demands Reparations for Colonialism. Why the ANC is PanickedAdded:
Hey, welcome back ladies and gentlemen.
First, an apology to all of you for being so quiet over the last week. I'm still battling the flu. It it it's been a nightmare. It's starting to get better, but as you can hear from my voice, and trust me, from my nose and my congestion, and all the rest of it, it's not great yet, but I'm trying. I'm hopefully going to be back by Monday so that we can get back to streaming and actually doing our jobs because a lot of things are happening in South Africa.
So, first a massive shout out to the sponsors of today's video. First, Louise for your donation over on Stub and then to all of the patrons as well as the YouTube channel members. Yes, every single video that I make is sponsored by you. So, to become a sponsor, I'll have more information at the end of this video. For now, let's get into it. So, what are we talking about? Well, earlier this week on the 4th of May, the president of South Africa, Mr. Soraposa made renew calls or renewed calls for reparations. This specifically demanding from European powers as well as America to first acknowledge the crime and the harm that was colonialism, but then also to repay Africa for what it has done.
demanding that the West acknowledge that slavery as well as colonialism caused a sort of intergenerational or multigenerational trauma. In other words, if your ancestors from like four or five generations ago were slaves, you're still carrying that trauma in your DNA. It's still part of you and you're still suffering as a result of it. Now, as unscientific as that approach would be, it is one that luckily for all of the leftists who claim this, it sort of means that you are always guilty for everything that your ancestors did and that those who struggled to make sense of the modern world are always the victims of the things that your ancestors may or may not have done. In fact, there is no evidence to support that Ramapoza or any of his family members were ever taken as slaves because while he's in South Africa, his family is not in Europe somewhere or in America. In fact, every single freedom fighter, Julius MMA included, were never taken as slaves.
Julius Malmo was very young when apartate came to an end. So, he never actually suffered under apartate. And if you look at the mansions that he lives in, it's clear that the new South Africa has been quite kind to him. But if we go down, we find in the president's own words, and I quote, "Whatever form reparations ultimately take, they should be aligned with our continent's developmental objectives and assist African countries to tackle debt challenges, poverty alleviation, inequality, and unemployment." and further quoting beyond that they must make a clear commitment to tangible measures to redress that supports Africa's growth and development. Now before we get into the absurdity of this demand uh we need to get a couple of things straight. The ANC tends to do two things whenever it has its back against the wall. The first is every single time it steps in it, it will blame aparate and africas interchangeably dependent on of course what the mistake was that they made.
Everyone knows this. The more the uh ANC blames aparate the more panicked they are. The next is reparations demands. uh the Sodor Mapa will roughly every single year go on this beggar's tour around the world where he asks almost every country in the world to give money please because uh Africa needs it. Now, ordinarily this is just a tour where he sort of goes and he begs the people that he hates for money, but in the recent in recent years really, we've seen a a new sort of desperation that's been setting in with these calls. And this really is probably one of the most direct acts of desperation because unlike uh previous years where the president would just go to other countries and do a whole speech reminding them of their colonialism and hoping that their guilt somehow opens their wallets and often times it sadly does. This time around, President Sonapora is actually calling on the UN to pass a in the general assembly to pass a clear commitment that all countries that once had colonies must commit to repaying reparations. Why this panic? Why is this sort of bubbling up to the surface now? Well, there's a couple of reasons for it, and I'll run through all of that before I get to debunking what the president is actually talking about here. First, we have to go back to 2024 when the ANC for the first time loses their majority election results in this country. At 40%, the ANC is in trouble, but the problems are not yet existential. It's not out of their control. At 40%, the ANC still has the majority share of all votes. And so, the ANC will always be in government. What really I think sets in panic for the ANC is as time rolls on, poll after poll shows that the ANC support is slipping further still with some polls now suggesting that the ANC may be as low as 31% and I've even seen polls that say that is within the margin of error and the ANC could be closer to 28% maybe even 27%. On the flip side of that, the DA appears to be doing incredibly well.
not yet overtaking the ANC if you include the margin of error, but definitely close enough to cause panic.
Why? Well, because at 40% the ANC has all the cards. If the DA doesn't want to give the ANC what it demands, it can go with literally any other party and get over that hurdle of 50%. At 28%, this becomes a whole new ball game. You see, because as the ANC support has been slipping, the EFF and the MK has not done any better. And I do want to warn against polls like this LG Research Foundation poll. If you actually search for the LG Research Foundation, there's nothing there, right? uh their actual polling has no actual information about methodology that was used, the the specific target group, what kind of questions was asked, how many participants were in the p in the poll.
None of this is actually answered. So, this is just a fake poll by someone that desperately wants to make the ANC and very specifically the EFF look like a far bigger contender, especially considering that the DA has been going from strength to strength. How would they now suddenly be at 12%. But in every single poll that can be trusted and believed, we have the EFF and the MK sitting at below 10% respectively. If the ANC gets 28% and the EFF and the MK together can't get them over the 50% line, this means that the ANC will be forced to go into government with someone like the DA who maybe at that point sits at 25%. But now the DA knows that the ANC's biggest trump card, the we'll just go with the other side, is no longer on the table. Now the DA can demand a lot more from the ANC and the ANC has no way to really stop it. This threatens the money purses as well as the believers of power of the ANC. The next thing that really should be of concern for the ANC or the next reason why they are so panicked at the moment, the world is changing. The liberal world order that have ruled for the last 30 years is dying with America now putting renewed pressure on South Africa as well as renewed pressure on Africa. with America just saying, "Look, we're no longer going to reward ineptitude. We want to see actual partners rise up and we will work with countries that actually want to rise up and join the new world order." This is putting severe strain on the communists within Africa as well as in South Africa because well, communism is inherently a system that relies on gifts from the outside. And with the UN under severe pressure, with the World Economic Forum sort of slipping away, with all of these world organizations starting to go the way of the dodo bird, the ANC is starting to realize that this might be their last hurrah. This might be the last moment that they can get some money from the rest of the world. And this is all just a massive election ploy. Surapora wants to be the guy that can go back to the voters and say, "See, we got the Europeans to give us a bunch of money.
We got the Europeans to acknowledge colonialism and they're now going to pay billions of dollars into our coffers.
That's what the ANC has delivered to you." But of course, this is to ignore all facts, all realities. Let's just quickly speak very, very honestly. Since about 1960s, the world has given Africa in terms of free money, aid, between1 trillion and 2.6 trillion US. That gap exists because we're not entirely sure just how much aid a lot of countries has spent in Africa. In terms of foreign direct investment, it's many times more, many, many, many trillions of dollars more. in terms of loans at a ridiculously low interest rates as well as just gifts from other countries that goes up even more. You want to talk about reparations, Africa has already received all of its reparations multiple times over. You want to talk about the ultimate reparation? Let's talk about 1994. The ANC for all of their troubles with colonialism and aparate slavery receives a fully functional first world nation. A nation that has the most advanced and most lucrative power system in the world. In fact, in 1998, the world is coming to Eskim to learn how to run a a a power station or a power system nationwide. A country that on the African continent at least is by far the most advanced. It is a first world nation with first world infrastructure.
Water, electricity, roads, railways, harbors, you name it, we had everything.
In 32 years, the ANC has turned this once prosperous country into a hellscape. On every single level, the ANC is doing worse. Inequality.
Inequality has gotten worse since the ANC has gotten into power. Unemployment used to be 16%, it's now over 30% with unofficial unemployment sitting well over 40%. You want to talk about the wealth income gap? Yeah, that's gotten worse as well. The ANC has taken a country that actually worked and they have destroyed it. You want to talk about economic development, there is none. You want to talk about the mining sector? Once employing almost 2 million people, now doesn't even employ half a million people. That has been the legacy of the ANC with all of the reparations that were given to them in 1994. A fully functional country free of charge. You don't have to pay anything for it. They have completely and utterly destroyed it. Why would anyone think sinking more money into South Africa would have any other outcome? The problem in South Africa is communism. The problem in South Africa is inept and unequipped government that doesn't understand how to get an economy going. The problem in Africa is a victimhood mindset that continuously believes that someone else has to save them for they cannot possibly save themselves. And no amount of reparations, no amount of gifts from the rest of the world, no amount of debt relief or debt forgiveness will ever change that. If the world decided tomorrow to forgive all of the trillions of dollars of debt that Africa has, in 10 years from now, Africa will once again have trillions of dollars in debt because it is a continent that doesn't understand the basic function of governance. But for the ANC, of course, this doesn't matter because this isn't about fixing the country. This is another short-term play to hold on to power. If they can go back to their voters and say, "We got you reparations," that will get them back at least 10% of the vote cuz they will have respect for the fact that the ANC was able to swindle the white man out of a little bit more money. Won't fix South Africa. It won't fix the lives of the poor, but it will keep the ANC in power.
