The Wallace Line is a 35-kilometer oceanic boundary between Bali and Lombok that separates Asian wildlife (found on Bali) from Australasian wildlife (found on Lombok), despite the islands being geographically close; this biological divide exists because the deep Lombok Strait (over 1,300 meters) has prevented land animals from migrating between the islands for millions of years, even during ice ages when sea levels dropped.
